Apple iPad launch not your usual sell-out; real time chart shows breakdown of Apple iPad use

0. phoneArena 16 Mar 2012, 22:18 posted on

Checks of a dozen New York Apple Stores by BGR found that none of them had sold out their inventory of Apple iPads by 5:00pm EDT; that is unlike past years when all of the stores would be reporting a sell out before the afternoon...

Not quite epic fail but a good punch to the groin of apples rotten ego, perhaps even Ifans are seeing the light of day and not falling for apples annual re-release of a product schedule.

Now I'm not trying to spin this anyway...but I think we all underestimate just how many iPads were pre-ordered and were made available for pre-order.

For example, the iPad 2 had a 2 to 3 week wait come 4pm EST the day that the pre-order began. There were lines because there just weren't that many iPad 2's prepared for the release. I don't even think Apple expected there to be such a demand. It stayed like that for weeks until Apple could catch up. Of course, there were lines for those who didn't want to wait.

Then look at the iPhone 4S. Apple understood the demand and provided more iPhones for preorder. Sure, there were lines on launch day, but the lines weren't AS long because the majority of folks bought their phone online. The 4S went on to break sales records.

Now you've got the new iPad. In direct contrast to the iPad 2, you could order your iPad the first few days of the pre-order and still get it on launch day. A few days later that wait was kicked to March 19th and then only after that was it sent to the 2 to 3 week range. That's not because the new iPad isn't popular, it's because Apple has learned the kind of demand they are going to get and are supplying themselves appropriately.

Now of course, we will find out when Apple releases sales records. If they sold less iPads than in the past, then the new iPad failed to impress. But if the iPad breaks records as well, then we are looking at the end of the crazy launch days. Apple will operate like any other company. People will celebrate in their houses when they pay for their pre-order instead of high-fiving Apple Specialists...

Be that as it may, iLove the way these ApplefAn siTes spin the iFailure to iMply that all the Shē€p ordered online; we know that can not be true as, they exist only to stand on a line....!!

For the record, iBGR will be posting about 8 articles on the launch of the New iPad 2 [again] today so, if you're going to use them as your news source, just "Copy & Paste" old articles and repost with new titles like they do everytime there is some sort of iLaunch (it's not like much changes anyway; we know the processor is slow, the RAM is minimum, the cameras suck, FaceGriMe™ still only works on iWiFi, there's still the revolutionary Home button, you can still customize upto 0.30% (same amount as FFC), and there will be another "New" one in six short months just as 'Resolution-FaiRy'.

Its still going to outsell and outshine anything that has come out from the competition-though I do like the asus prime. Pap, you spend more time reading apple articles than android.

You mentioned that it will outsell and outshine anything from the competition. But, I don't think you would go as far to say that it is "better" than the competition. With quad core tablets, galaxy note models, models with USB and HDMI capability without adapters, I'm not sure about the "outshine" claim. The original Ipad gathered 80% marke share. Today, apple has 55% market share with the Kindle Fire catching up. So, the "outsell" claim has a deadline.

so u people banned taco or whatever, but this guy is perfectly alright? seriously?

lol-- the processor works just as well as any other processor… if you make a video of an ipad 3 (which im sure u already bought assuming ur love for apple considering u troll on EVERY SIGNLE APPLE ARTICLE) lagging-- please show… the ram, 1 gig, is no less than that of any other nice tablet… the camera is not an adnvanced camera, but in no way does it suck for what it is needed for (how many people take their ipads for hiking pictures? but i agree, the front one could be better)… um who's calling the home button revolutionary?… and when has there ever ever been an apple launch of any ios device within 6 months of each other?

anyways, the ipad offers an upgrade for original ipad owners… i dont see it as something ipad 2 owners would need to worry about… and anyways i dont think it is even necessary from the ipad 1… tablets/computers have slower refresh cycle… but probably ipad 4 would be the necessary update for ipad 1, and then ipad 5 for ipad 2… cause i see it as a little faster cycle than cimputers

Although I agree that the refresh on a tablet could be longer, the fact that they went as far as to call it "The New iPad" then they really should have created something new. Some improvements? Yes... New? No.

its just marketing… i mean they arent going to call it the old ipad… we all know its not a drastically new revolutionary product… i think people get too into marketing terms

You are correct Lucas77777777 (9311) and, based on your theory with the much antiCiPated "new" iPad 4 and iPad 5, iPad 3 is really irrelevant; thank you for re-affirming that. And, Godspeed.

9311? and in noway did i say that the ipad 3 is irrelevant… sigh… i am not going to explain it all again, but basically the ipad 3 is for whoever wants the newest tech, not so much for upgrades…

"How long was that line? It consisted of 3 people." ....
"Still, that salesman said that the new iPad was "flying off the shelves."

Mmm I still dont see why we should spend our so hard earn money on this tablet. Im not an apple hater nor a fandroid, but I have use both system and both have advantages and disavantages. But lets face it Ipad 3 is too expensive is too much money. You could get something better or equal cheaper. Apple princing sucks. As a consumer I would rather buy the Apple Ipad 2 than Apple Ipad 3 why because it is still satisfy my needs. How many people really buy this stuff because they need it instead of being in the vibe?Apple wake up stop making blood money. Lower the prices. Long Live Asus Transformer Prime

Well, we did get more iPads than we were expecting to get this time around, and while we did sell some, we still had plenty left by the time I went home. Mobile got a little busy in the last couple of hours though. I sold a Photon and a Galaxy Nexus. ^_^

I don't think you selling two phones has anything to do with the discussion, which isn't that big of a deal other than you selling them two lackluster devices compared to other selections.

Lackluster compared to what?

The only lackluster thing here, besides your life, is Apple's launch day sales.

My life is lackluster? You come on here bragging to a bunch of strangers about you selling two phones, and my life is lackluster?

Apple can sell more devices in one week than Motorola can sell in an entire month.

I wasn't bragging per se. For such a non busy day with iPads, the two phone sales near the end of the day were good.

And again, what's lackluster about the phones?

No, you were bragging. You have nothing else going for you, so you felt the need to add such an irrelevant and practically useless comment to the discussion.

We all know how bad Motorola are with phones when it comes to quality.

Hey, Miz. Is that you? Or is this anothet taco50 account?

You see - Sniggly here is no stranger. In fact he is one of the most respected members of the PA communuty, recognized even by the editors of the site.

You, CM_Punk or whoever you really are, ain't nothing more than a vermin.

You think that when Android users make comments about Android in an Apple article (which is 95% of the articles lately anyway) they are bragging? lol. They are merely stating facts, mate. Your white fruit company is going down. And this is the start of it.

I may work for Tmobile, but every time an apple product has launched, a few dodos come in and ask if we have it. Not a soul.

Apple doesnt over order product, they under deliver product to create that "sold out" hype which actually drives more sales as people get obsessed with finding one. The fact that they still have all that inventory left is not a good sign. Its the first time ever.

Maybe people are finally getting tired of wiping slave blood off their devices?

I sold 2 phones as well.. yay! lol

It's Business 101 Remix. Overhype a product, deliver less than claimed manufactured numbers, watch them "sell out" while sitting on stock and producing a frenzy like none other. Then watch your stock prices skyrocket while "demand remains high" Then rerelease the product. They did it with previous devices, hell every manufaturer most likely does it. Microsoft with the Xbox line, NIntendo with the 3DS, Sony with the PS3, Dodge when the Viper first came out, Fiat with the 500.... Doesn't matter what it is, it will happen. s**t it could be a box of crackers. Build enough hype around them and underdeliver and people will whip up into a catastrophic frenzy.

Also, FUCK T-Mo. Got to a point where there were more "other charges" on my bill than actual usage. And there was never an explanation about what "other charges" was, just "give me money". Me and my wife are happier at ATT than we ever were there. I hope Magenta goes under.....
