That is a bit of a stretch. Maybe a 1Q2012 launch, but February 24th? Sounds like someone is needing to find ways to fill their day....

And further, what is the Economic Times' track record with iPad rumors they publish being correct?

Wow can't wait- to my eyes the ipad is the only true tablet everything tablet made and is running on android kinda SUCKS. Maybe oneday the android community can build a competitive tablet but non as of now.

i like android phones better than iphones..but i have to agree on this one.. apple make the best tablet ...not spec wise but the apps ...the android app for phones are awsome but not so sure for tablets

I almost understand your point but the fact is that apple does nothing to tablets. What is the difference between I pads 1 and 2....its faster and thinner. What will be the improvements for Ipad 3, Siri? I dont think you can say a "tablet" is great because of its "apps." That just makes the apps great and brings no improvements over previous versions of the tablet itself. Plus, its a given that android will eventually pass the appstore in apps anyway. At least android tablets have tried new things with tablets such as SD card expansion, HDMI, ir, USB etc... Regardless of what marginal improvements apple chooses to make, it will sell well because of customer loyalty. But if they don't offer real improvements over Ipad 2, their market share will erode just like the iphone. And they will have to revert to trying to ban other tablets to keep it. If you still can't plug anything into the ipad 3 other than the charger then it will truly be seen as a large iPod touch.

@chadrick. First you say that Apple products sell because of their LOYAL customers. And then you say that their market will erode? Lol. You are contradicting yourself. Also, how can you say that the android apps store will surpass the apple apps store? It's been several years already and that has not happened. Also, majority of developers still prefer ios over android, so what you are saying does not make sense. Also, you are not getting what Apple is trying to do. Those things that you connect or plug in to your device are exactly what Apple is trying to eliminate. It is more convenient that users won't have to connect anything to their devices anymore. That is why there is the icloud and auto synching. Ios users would be able to access files wirelessly without having to plug anything in to their idevices, while you android users would still be scrambling for your usb's, etc to access files, lol. And what's wrong with a large ipod touch? Some apps and tasks work better on a larger screen. You're like saying a desktop computer is nothing more than a larger laptop :)

@gemini- First, I said the iphones market share has eroded and the IPad 3 will continue to sell well. 2 different products so Im not sure what contradiction you think you have identified. 2nd, android has already surpassed the app store in free apps and has virtually the same number of total apps as the app store. The app store does get qualityapps first. However, if ypi look at myprevious points, the trends are that marketplace will pass the app store sometime next summer. On the cloif thing. I'm sure you are well aware that android users have access to MULTIPLE cloud services. However, no one, including odd users, has access during trans-oceanic flights. Beside the fact that odd users have to stream over the cloud at 3g speeds 10x slower than 4g LTE at other times when wi-go isn't available. As a previous iphone and iphone 3gs owner, I grew tired of being forced into things. Apple is trying to force you to use their cloud just as they force you to use itunes. With android, if I want to use the cloud then I will use it. If IM flying from New York to London and there is no wi-fi, I load movies from my sd card. If Im flying from NY to LA and I don't want to pay the airline $8.99 for wi-go then I can use usb to load movies. You see Gemeni, its all about choice and freedom. I don't always want to do what apple wants. Forcing people to do things is the relationship that pimps have with their employees.

calm down supergeminifanboy.

apple's loyalty is through the roof. Most of apple's sales are to current apple customers. Thats great. And not.
While it keeps them in a steady stream of money their market WILL erode.. not because they are selling less, but because they are not selling to new customers. The tablet market is in its infancy and the smartphone market isnt much farther a long. Simple math. The iphone sells 240k phones a day, android sells 700k a day. the more android sells, the smaller the iphone market share will be.

They said that something crazy like 85-90% of i4s sales were coming from current iphone users. That puts a lot of money in apple's pocket, but it does not increase their shares in the market place. They are 2 seperate subjects.

first off, ur math is wrong.. just because android sells more phones than ios, doesnt mean their market share will go up... the percentage will still remain the same because it will always be the same proportion as long as they both continue selling like that... even when other oses loose market share, there is no way ios can loose market share to android proportionally if they keep those numbers constant

and apple does not solely rely on recurring costomers.. i agree that a large amount are, but there is no way the mac and ipad and iphone could have grown at the rate that they have if they were only relying on old costomers.. people do not have the capacity ro upgrade/buy that mny things that quickly

Without meaning to sound cold hearted in any way, the pace at which Apple has been moving the iPad3 has a better chance to be launched on the anniversary of his death next year as opposed to his Birthday. I truly hope for Apple loyalists that the last 18 months or so have been just a bump in the road. I do not think that anything they did on the iPad 2 or the iPhone 4S was groundbreaking or risky. This company can easily just sit back and enjoy a very profitable 2012 without doing much of anything. But it would be great to see them kick it up a notch and truly attack the mobile industry with cutting edge tech in a totally revamped iPad3 and a iPhone 5. We know they have it in them.

Like what? A 100 core processor with a 100 megapixel camera on the back and 80 megapixel in the front, and has xenon lighting both in the front and back, with 1,000,000P video recording capabilities, and supports, 1,000,000,000,000 colors? 1milimeter thin? With a bulletproof glass. With 1million gb internal memory? And can play dvd's, cd's, and burn them as well? Can download 1million mbps? Has 10g lte technology?

Some people. They expect too much from Apple as if its technology is from out of this world and does not conform with existing technologies, lol.

Isn't the the Kindle Fire out selling the iPad? Hold on isn't that competitive? It's competitively beating the iPad... I give it a year before Apple can not compete with Android. Like it is now with monthly to yearly phone sales. There is no way a single product can compete with an OS. Sorry Apple it's just a matter of time and that time stared this holiday season.

"The iPad 2 also moved a million units in its first week, but Apple had trouble meeting demand after that. The original iPad sold well, but not anywhere near this rate. The tablet is selling at a rate of a million units a week. Even more impressively, they have managed to meet all of that demand, letting consumers purchase it without wait throughout the holiday shopping season." - phonearena.com

Apple can't say that. What was that about competitive? Just because you bought an Apple product doesn't mean that Android can't compete. The truth is it's just a matter of time before Apple can't compete with Android and is competing with Windows tablets... lol

the fact of the matter is dude is that apple has sold millions more tablets than any other manufacturer, and thaey hold the biggest tablet marketshare, the current succes of the kindle fire will probably level out and it may still be not as big as the ipad. the only reson that android has a bigger marketshare in the smartphone sector is that there are over 200 diferent android smartphones in the on the market, therefore more people are likely to pick an android phone over something like a windows, blackberry or symbian phone. and if you look at the statistics you probably will find that most of the android powered handsets sold are mid level smartphones.

Y i don't really care about sale numbers. But the kindle fire is kinda new to the market while the ipad 2 is from march launch.

Competition is needed. Small difference apple wants iOS only on apple devices. Google wants android on all most every tablets and smartphones. Thank god not every company wants that. Good that their is wp, symbian and bb also to compete.

I can see why people are drawn to the iPad, but I really don't understand the significant hype. I have one of the first and most basic Android tablets in the 7" Galaxy Tab, and I love it. Still running 2.3 but it's so much more customizable than anything with iOS. I can customize my entire homescreen with replacement launchers and widgets, all without root. As attrative as the iPad is aesthically, I feel too locked down by the operating system. Sure, my tab isn't the fastest or the prettiest, but I got it for a fraction of the cost of the iPad and can do so much more with it. I can only imagine how happy I would be with a newer tablet running Honeycomb [like the Transformer Prime or the 10.1 Galaxy tab.] If I'm going to spend $500+ on a new tablet, I would definitely go with one of those options or hopefully a new ICS tablet over an iPad.

Yea thanks, I'm aware of that. What's that have to do with what I said? The point is, you don't have to take it to that level to have customization in Android. There's almost no customization on iOS without jailbreaking. I don't know what point you're trying to make, but you are basically reinforcing one of mine.

@hybris. Well maybe because there are users who do not put customization of wallpapers at the top of their list, lol, but rather high quality apps and a better user experience and better customer support is at the top of their list :)

@530gemini: I'm not criticizing it's lack of customization, I'm pointing out the fact that Android gives you more options for customization. I didn't even criticize iOS, I just said I like Android much more for the reasons I listed. You just sound defensive. There are plenty of users who don't care about customization (and this is obviously beyond just wallpapers, like you mentioned. Wallpapers, really? I didn't mention wallpapers at all. If you that's all you got from my post, this whole topic is over your head.) High quality apps and a better user experience? I have plenty of useful, high quality apps on my Androids, most of which I've payed nothing for. They might not look quite as pretty as some of your iOS ones with a better "user experience," but they are free and get the job done for me. If you feel good working in the confines of iOS, great for you. It's a great operating system for you and people who are afraid to explore a little and try something they aren't used to.

And by the way, I have no problem with Apple products. I love my iPod. I loved my old Powerbook. I would love to have a new Macbook Pro or iMac if I could afford them right now. And if someone gave me an iPad 2 as a gift, I would be thrilled to use it for multimedia and surfing. But for phones, and tablets I would purchase, I prefer Android for many reasons. The iPhone is a great phone for a lot of people, it's just not for me.
