Apple iPad 2: will you get it?
0. phoneArena posted on 03 Mar 2011, 08:56
The iPad 2 is finally here and it's truly an iPad on steroids. It has now grown dual-core A5 muscle capable of delivering double the processing and nine times the graphical punch. But tablet steroids are of a special kind…

When you can view a web page as it is intended, instead of getting a download flash player error is when I will even look at ANY Apple products.

no flash is small drawback, but at least it doesnt have huge drawbacks as android.. like crapy battery life... and other....

Dude, battery life does not depend on the OS. It depends on the battery model provided by manufacturers. If you're going to bash other products, do it the right way.
31. Todd (unregistered) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 11:47 2 7
Actually, batter life does depend on the OS to some degree, albeit a small amount, it does hold some responsibility.
You see, the OS determines how to use all the resources available to it, including energy. How much energy gets diverted to one application over another? What about increases power usage for one core over the other ... or both?
The list goes on. A good operating system will be able to increase the life of a battery on any given device.
Though you are correct in that the battery is the biggest contributor, it isn't the only.
And thus I reach my point... grow up, get off the forums, and go play in traffic.
25. AppleFUD (unregistered) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 10:50 5 3
Sorry, that's just FUD.
Android will get about the same battery life as iOS relative to what's running. Both operating systems handle multitasking in a very similar way. The difference is that Android developers can choose to enable background multitasking which means some can write bad apps that drain the battery, thus if someone is getting bad battery life on an Android device it is most likely do to a poorly written app, not the OS.
If you don't believe me just do some research on how iOS & Android handle multitasking, there's several great articles on it.
33. Todd (unregistered) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 12:49 0 0
I never said that the iPad or the Droid OS handled multitasking poorly or that one was better than the other. I just said that the OS does have something to do with the battery life.
I agree - modern OS will manage battery life well and equally with other OS
35. Xoom for $539 (unregistered) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 16:40 5 1
Looks like Sam's Club will have the WiFi Xoom for $539
That's $40 more than the lowest iPad 2 16G
And you get 16G more
Lots more RAM
Don't need Apple's proprietary dongles = $40-$80
And you get an SD expansion slot = priceless = unlimited memory
Of course. . Honeycomb = priceless!
59. MobilePhoneMaster (unregistered) posted on 05 Mar 2011, 02:30 1 0
I doesn't want iPad 2. It runs the stupid iOS operating system. I prefer Honeycomb tablets (Motorola XOOM or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1) or Android mobile phones
I prefer a Nokia mobile phone with Symbian OS than an iPad 2.
Although, a mobile phone, it runs better operating system (Android and Symbian are better than iOS). So, I can do more with a good mobile phone than an stupid tablet
3. clevername posted on 03 Mar 2011, 09:09 1 6
So far more people want an iPad than anything else. Let's see how this plays out
5. clevername posted on 03 Mar 2011, 09:13 2 2

I second that notion I mean Why spend $800 on a tablet when you can get a very nice netbook that does everything a tablet can muster and then some I own a Gateway netbook which was $280 250gb hd, 2gb ram, 1.6 intel atom and you name it it has it. Tablets are useful in some ways but the majority of people that want tablets want them expecting they run just as good as a laptop or better. I guess people forgot tablets were created for our entertainment. Instead they made them look like a replacement technology for laptops and netbooks. Shame
10. appleblackberryandroid (unregistered) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 09:21 6 2
since 90% of web pages require flash, how is it a minor drawback? It's a minor drawback to you because you haven't seen flash before on your apple. You can't miss what you never had. xoom, xoom, xoom
12. Allday28 posted on 03 Mar 2011, 09:34 2 6
I really like that Apple isnt trying to push 3D on to people. I just might switch to apple for that reason alone.

Glad to see common sense is winning...I still cant see the point in a tablet...Call me old fashioned, but why not just get a small laptop, or a netbook?...Ipads and the other tablets just seem like really nice toys to have...Sure, If Ihad the money to waste Id get one...But until then i'll stick to my driods and my laptop....

How about a tablet that can actually double as a netbook? That's what I'm waiting for--the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. I think that will get both jobs done nicely.
45. CRICKETownz posted on 03 Mar 2011, 21:01 0 0
doesn't Dell already have that concept with a tablet that docks into a netbook-like hardware.

Just sold my 16gb iPad for $450 on ebay last night so it would be odd for me not to take the ~$50 hit and buy the new one. Considering getting my first white colored piece of technology too. Any thoughts on that?
17. remixfa posted on 03 Mar 2011, 09:51 6 1
heres a though. go pay off some debt or buy something of importance. the ipad2 may add an extra core, but what does it do differently? What great new feature is there?? ZERO, ZIP ZILCH, NONE.
If your gonna throw away your money on a tablet, get a xoom or a slate.
22. clevername posted on 03 Mar 2011, 10:26 2 6
What does the XOOM do differently from the tab? Different ui same functions fir the most part. Just small differences.
37. taco50 (banned) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 17:12 1 6
Exactly clevername. Both tablets do pretty much the same thing. Glad to see some common sense. Zoom didn't exist before Apple's success with it's tablet. All you android fan boys should thank Apple that there's a zoom available for you to buy.
54. AndroidQueen posted on 04 Mar 2011, 02:24 6 0
For me, tablet would be used mostly for browsing net. Apple fails BIG time here. Front facing camera is shitty compared to other tabs - another minus. You are stuck with whatever memory you get, so that sucks big time too. It runs on a slow network, no 4G - another fail. So no, they are not the same.

I brought ipad 1 and i had to force myself to use it, i had plenty of ipad apps and i mostly used it for email and whether app. Got rid of a while ago, now i do like ipad 2 i think its sleek and the camera additions are great, but what do i use it for im not sure, i think its a huge thing to know the purpose of an item before i buy it. Any suggestions?
20. protozeloz posted on 03 Mar 2011, 10:18 0 0
depends on the carrier and what you look... also the taste
-If you want power and feel like wanting to test something that curenly doesn't look like a phone the XOOM, Playbook are the way to go
-if you like how things are on the apple field and want a certain number of apps you may want to get the iPad2
28. AppleFUD (unregistered) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 10:58 3 0
That's why I'm waiting for something like the Asus Eee Pad Transformer. With Honeycomb and a form factor that is a tablet/netbook hybrid I can actually use it as a tablet for the fun easy stuff but still get a netbook experience when I need to work on documents, spreadsheets, drawing programs, etc. .
Otherwise, like you, I can't see what I would do with an iPad other than browse the web and some email. . .
23. clevername posted on 03 Mar 2011, 10:30 1 6
Looks like iPad 2 is winning. More votes for it than touchpad and honeycomb combined. And more votes than those that wanna stick with laptops. Fuck specs and UI's the consumer is speaking!
24. msa1988 posted on 03 Mar 2011, 10:33 6 1
Are you blind, or just retarded?
As of right now, the laptops are winning, then the XOOM, then the iPad. You can't combine the 3 iPad categories, bit if you do, Laptop / XOOM are still winning.
49. clevername posted on 04 Mar 2011, 01:29 0 3
I obviously posted that when more votes were entered for the first two options which I combined because they were both for being the iPad 2. I CAN. Combine those because the only difference was how it would be purchased. I left out the third option because it wasn't for the iPad 2. I never considered it. All my posts here were just humorous play by plays. If you look at my next one you see I call honeycomb the winner.
Without looking at context you called me a dumbass for a play by play commentary.
You sir are an idiot. The very special kind of idiot born and bred in stupidity by stupid people. I tip my hat to you for the skill necessary to prompt my response, but you obviously are a few stories short of a skyscraper.
56. msa1988 posted on 04 Mar 2011, 07:11 3 0
Well, moron, I now can conclude that you are both blind AND retarded. I made my post exactly 1 minute after you made yours (look at the posted times).
So you, once again, fail.
32. BaiGanyo posted on 03 Mar 2011, 11:59 5 2
Apple is headed the 2% market share they hold in computers. It's a go nowhere in the long run product for them. Now the foreign talent is starting to bail and jobs looked thinner than the ipad. Apples future looks BLEAK.
38. taco50 (banned) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 17:17 0 5
Yea things looked really bad for Apple right now. They just had the most profitable quarter ever. Now this quarter they added the largest carrier in the US as a potential customer base and also are launching iPad 2. Recent interview by a VZW executive just said that the iPhone was their most successful product launch ever. Yup sucks to be Apple.
50. clevername posted on 04 Mar 2011, 01:37 1 6
I actually thumbed myself down here. Im not a fanboy for either side but a fan of both technologies, and I don't want to be thumbed up by someone just because I declare one platform the winner of a vote hosted on a site populated by android loving misanthropes. Not that all people who love android possess social IQ's 80 points below the norm but the majority of them on here just happen to.
To hate a product and company solely because you prefer another is tiny. Tiny thinking from tiny brains. And THEY call people who like apple sheep?
BTW I own a nexus 1 and an iPhone 4. I am neithers fanboy or sheep.
You people are fu€kin retarded.
36. DJLegacy2k5 posted on 03 Mar 2011, 17:02 5 1
LMAO @ all the people that said they would "camp out" for a device that even Apple Insiders say is basically a waste because the iPad 3 is going to be the one that offers any Major improvements...Just goes to show how pathetically trendy and pathetic fanboys are.
39. taco50 (banned) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 17:20 1 4
Yes adding front and back cameras, dual core processors, 9x the graphics processing power, new software improvements, FaceTime, photobooth is a pathetic upgrade. What does Xoom have? Dual core processor about even screen size and resolution. Honeycomb which is good but no apps yet. Seems pretty similar to iPad in specs.
40. AppleFUD (unregistered) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 18:38 5 0
Weren't you spewing off last week how specs don't matter. . . blah, blah, blah. . . it's all about the user experience... now you want to say specs matter. . . sad!
Still far behind the Xoom!
What, 256RAM in the iPad 2 - that's going to suck. . . guess you have a reason to upgrade to the iPad 3.
At least when and Android tablet comes out it doesn't skimp on everything and give you proprietary ports and proprietary dongles and no HD screen. . . yeah, the most profitable quarter every for Apple because they have sheep like you to fleece for at least 4 generations of a product while they add little bits and peaces each generation that should have been there from the start. . . pathetic!
42. taco50 (banned) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 19:04 1 6
1. I didn't say specs don't matter. Please show me the post you're referring to.
2. This was in response to dj douche that there were no major improvements to iPad 2 which there clearly are.
3. I never said I'd buy the iPad or Xoom based on specs.
44. AppleFUD (unregistered) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 20:12 3 1
Xoom Vs iPad 2 specs
iPad 2 ??? no mention - rumored 256MB
Cameras - again iPad 2 doesn't say what MP
iPad 2 none = expensive dongles
Xoom HDMI & USB
iPad 2 = NON-HD 1024x768 9.7" 4:3
Xoom = HD 1280x800 10.1" 16:9
Xoom free upgrade
iPad 2 - 3G only
Both 1GHz dual-core
Well, the Xoom is ahead in every category except CPU but otherwise. . . yes, they are pretty much the same spec wise.
48. taco50 (banned) posted on 03 Mar 2011, 22:27 1 6
You didn't respond to any of my points. Do you just repeat specs over and over?
47. CRICKETownz posted on 03 Mar 2011, 21:10 1 3
free upgrade to 4G...i'd say that's worth noting little buddy.

You call apple customers sheep. Yet you and the other droves of android fanboys flock to attack apple products, posts, employees, customers, and the company itself with mindless posts for a company that neither asks or wants you to do it. I ask again, apple customers are the sheep?
Apple fanboys come to read posts about their favorite gadgets. Yet android fanboys come to bash them both. Why? For what reason?
What reason do you have to call them sheep? Has someone told you to? Is your life so pathetic that you actually get your kicks this way?
Get a hobby. And a life. And therapy. Then get a girl and get laid. You won't be so tense or competitive after regular sex.

LMAO @ everyone that has no reading comprehension on this site.
I own MULTIPLE OS's, I hate low end Android phones and except for the Atrix I hate MotoBlur. I own a WP7 device...
The point here is the flaws with the COMPANY and people that blindly defend a product in a completely uneducated manner with little to no facts to support their claims.
Also, seeing as I deal with the issues on a daily basis, I see the REAL facts in the store about who is having problems with what.
SHEEP is a common term for ANYONE that follows the pack blindly with no rhyme or reason in their decision to do so. People that then defend whatever the cause is by deflecting the facts and failing to admit any flaws in beliefs.
I post these comments WHILE working in an AT&T store, normally just after dealing with 6 people with problems with their Apple products...but yeah, great stuff there. (rolls eyes)
