Apple has filed a complaint against Samsung with the U.S. Inetrnational Trade Commission, seeking to block U.S. imports of the Samsung Galaxy S handsets and the Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets; in the complaint, Apple accuses the Korean based firm of imitating Apple's devices...

Apple is only afraid because they know that samsung products will sell more...
4. quakan (Posts: 1078; Member since: 02 Mar 2011)
yeah right the iphone 4 is the #1 selling smartphone of all time with the 3gs and 3g filling in at 2nd and 3rd
they both need each other but they don't want the other company getting an upper hand...they'll come to a settlement eventually

Have you seen the Galaxy S II sales lately? Samsung is becoming quite a challenge and I'm sure 3 million in 55 days without a US launch makes the Galaxy S II the biggest Android debut to date in terms of sales figures.
Sure, the iPhone series has sold more than the Galaxy S series overall, but the Galaxy S phones are experiencing a much faster growth rate than iPhones. Apple is starting to see that not Android anymore, but Samsung alone, is presenting a threat to it's market share. You can't deny that.
16. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Yeah, because they imitated the iphone, that's why they're selling :)
Samsung is no threat to Apple. Apple is annoyed by Samsung for copying their iDevices.
27. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
so what you are saying is that people are buying the galaxy s2 because they think its an iphone lol not everyone is dumb as isheeps.....if that was the case they would have started suing in early 2010 when galaxy s was ANNOUNCED and not when galaxy s became successful.....galaxy s2 is doing well because it is currently the best phone available....
33. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
People are buying the Galaxy S because they can finally get a non Apple device that looks and feels like an iphone. Not everyone is a fan of Apple. Not everyone likes Apple's walled approach. But they do like iDevices design and OS. Hence, the Galaxy S is a close alternative. Galaxy S is not the best phone available. There's no official claim to that. In your personal world maybe :)
42. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
Maybe its just me but I didn't get the s2 because it looks and feels like an iPhone 4 and it doesn't....the only thing that I will say that is similar is the grid icon app menu but apple were not the first with a grid icon....I personally got it because of the specs and like you pointed out is the best phone to me....but I would say that a lot of techblogs have said the same even apple loving sites such as engadget....sales also seem to say its the best...before you say doesn't mean.its the best, alot of apple fanboys say hey we sell the most so we the best.

galaxy s2 > iphone in every way
2. Whateverman (Posts: 3158; Member since: 17 May 2009)
Can we just get Judge Judy in here to shut them both up. "No one is copying of of you Apple! Shut up and quit filing lawsuits. And Samsung, you're crazy if you think we're gonna block Apples products from entering the US! Both of you grow up and stop acting like children or i'll ban you both!"
3. Awesome1 (unregistered)
Can you even read? Apple is the one wanted to ban Samsung smartphones and tablet in US, not the other way around.
5. quakan (Posts: 1078; Member since: 02 Mar 2011)
Can you read???? Apple wants to ban Samsung because Samsung wants to ban Apple.
17. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
And why should Apple shut up? So that Samsung and the other copycats can just sit back, relax, and wait what's next for Apple and just copy? I don't think so. The copying should stop.
28. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
apple never copies do they....ummmmmm have you seen ios5 they have copied from everyone including from devolopers from there own platform....
ios 5 notification-android/web os/samsung touchwiz(slide to notifcations such as miss calls and messages from lockscreen)
ios 5 volume shutter button- camera+ had this last year on their app but apple made them remove it because it was a private api and appl also said that it would confuse the isheeps...lol guess the isheeps have matured enough for apple now.
ios 5 quick camera access from lockscreen- copied from wp7
ios 5 imessage- blackberry messenger
sooo what is so Original lord isheep in ios 5...everything that ios 5 will do can be DONE ALREADY on other OS'S......finally your right apple should stop copying i agree with you there completely.
34. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Do you know each and every touch gesture patents included on iOS? Did you know that the notification tray has been a part of iOS since the first iphone? Do you know how many touch gesture patents Apple owns that has not even been implemented on their iDevices? Do you know why google is not suing Apple for that notification tray? It's because they can't.
Apple has the right to sue anyone whom they feel is infringing on their patents if they have a strong evidence. Why would it bother you if you're confident that no one is copying Apple's iDevices? It's because you know deep inside that they do :)
44. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
dont really know much about patents to be honest but i think they have patented the codes behind how the gesture is performed and there is always more than one way to perform those gestures, otherwise apple would be suing everyone if there was only way of doing the gestures you are on about... i also understand they recently won a patent on capacitive screens but again there is more than one way of making them.....never saw pull down notification on iphone before ios5 and if they had it for so long why did it take 4 years to implement....lol i know you mean it was in the source code of ios but then again it could have been in the source code of android when it was meant to be a bb challenger...AGAIN i have never said no ones copied apple so dont know where you got the from...everyone copies everyone i just dont get how apple fanboys think apple never copy anyone and will defend them till death...google have not patented anything android hence they are a opensource platform....they cant sue anything to do with android...apple could use the exact code of any android features and not get sued...
52. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Bottomline is, let anyone sue if they feel like their protected IP's have been infringed. Let them battle it out in court, and may justice prevail. Pull down gestures have been available in many apps for the iphone. It's just never used in any of its native apps. So if Apple decides to use it now, it's their prerogative, and if google feels that they've been ripped off, then let them sue Apple. Being open source has nothing to do with patenting features. Google can patent any of their IP's (if they actually have one, lol). Why do you think google entered that bidding for Nortel? Which Apple won btw. So they can openly let everyone use those patented tech? I don't think so. Don't play naive. If you're really smart, you should know how patents are very important to any tech company in protecting their investments. Apple is just protecting and exercising their rights.
68. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
apple did not win,a consortium including apple, microsoft and others won....the sale has not gone through yet and will be decided by next fall and yes it is not good for google as they need as many patents as possible as they dont really have any to protect themselves....im not being naive and know how important patents are and as i said before i dont have any real knowledge of them...i guess we will see who wins out at the end...cant remember the last time apple won in court...

"the notification tray has been a part of iOS since the first iphone"
BAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I HATE LIARS.
APPLE NEVER HAD THE NOTIFICATION TRAY. THEY ONLY WAY YOU COULD HAVE GOTTEN ONE WAS BY JAILBREAKING, WHICH YOUR MASTER WANTED MAKE A FELONY AND FAILED AT. HAHHAHA. IOS NEVER HAD A NOTIFICATION BAR. HAHHAHA LMFAO @ AT YOUR LHYING FAIL.
SILLY ISHEEP :D
53. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Liar? What would you do if I can prove to you in an article that pull down touch gestures for menus have been a part of iOS since rhe first iphone?
Yes, Apple haven't implemented a notification tray until iOS5, but it does not mean that they never had any right to that gesture.
Use your common sense, if Apple copied android on that, google would've sued Apple by now. But why didn't google sue Apple? Is it because google is just too nice? I don't think so. It's because google knows that Apple had that feature in mind even before they came out with their first android phone :) So what did google do, as always, when they find out about something that Apple has been cooking up, google implements it right away on their devices to make it seem like they had it first, and they end up with half baked features, because they just rushed it out :)
65. iSheepHunter (Posts: 55; Member since: 07 Jul 2011)
HAHAHA, so Google has some sort of spy that stole the idea from apple?
Ridiculous, iOS never had the notification bar and now that Android has it it means they sent in a "spy" to apple to get information on it.
Blind little iSheep :)
47. feli_g (Posts: 8; Member since: 28 Apr 2011)
They just thing apple is the best. Everyone copies but apple. They are so hypnotized that they can't just see the facts.
54. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Oh please stop. Not everyone is copying Apple. RIM & HP don't copy Apple at all. They come up with their own. I would say that Apple might have inspired them here and there, but they try to come up with something different. Unlike most android devices that just seem to wait for Apple's next step and imitate it. Ewwwww.
66. wassup (Posts: 565; Member since: 23 Jun 2011)
exactly. the third party apps in iOS had them.... so technically apple stole that idea from them AND android.... mate face it... apple isn't the best anymore
6. oddmanout (Posts: 434; Member since: 22 May 2009)
Apple is starting to get annoying with all these lawsuits. Do they not realize how bad its making them look to the public? My respect for this company decreases by the day. Why cant they just pay more attention to the future and continue to innovate like they're known for instead of wasting there time in trivial lawsuits.
18. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Annoying? And you think Apple does not find all the copying of their devices annoying as well?
21. mrkrabs (Posts: 10; Member since: 20 Jun 2011)
is that why Apple is having the iPhone 5 have a similiar iOS like Android with the drag down? :)
35. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
That drag down notification tray has been a part of iOS since the first iphone. They just haven't implemented it at that time. Why do you think google is not suing Apple for it? It's because they know that they're actually the ones who stole that idea from Apple and rushed it into their android os. No wonder it's half baked :)
70. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
where do you get your info that google stole the notification from apple and that is why they are not suing lol also you say android rushed there notification and is half baked then why did in every iphone vs android comparison the reviewers would always wish iphone had android notification and if android notification is ''half baked'' then ios notification was utter rubbish simple as...there is nothing innovative in ios 5...whats next apple created cloud music and ota update and wireless sync...hey apple must have created the phone too
7. messiah (Posts: 433; Member since: 19 Feb 2010)
samsung should release a phone withe all the same specs and design except it shoulkd have TWO apple style home buttons on the bottom... thatll show them
8. cheetah2k (Posts: 733; Member since: 16 Jan 2011)
"Samsung has followed each of Apple’s groundbreaking products with imitation products that incorporate Apple’s technology and distinctive design"
Hang on lemme see how:
1. 4.3" SAmoled+ screen? - neg - iphone is 3.5"
2. Single front button? - ok, but this was done long before Apple - so neg
3. 8MP camera? - neg - iphone is 5MP
4. Dual core CPU? neg - iphone is 1Ghz Single Core A8 (and doesn't own the ARM tech - it licences it just like everyone else)
5. 1Gb RAM? - neg - iphone is way less
6. iOS icon design - ok, TW looks similar but this tiling effect was done long before Apple thought it was a good idea - so neg
7. the list goes on....
I think Apple are grasping at straws, purely because the SGSII is the first Androd phone that really provides a top class lag free experience, and with better hardware than the iPhone - and whats more, Samsung beat Apple to the punch with a dual core SKU. Technically speaking, Apple are behind the 8 ball, so any wonder they're crying foul and trying to block Samsung.
IMO, I think this is a clear indication what sort of company Apple is when put under true competition and product pressure - ie, not very nice! The whole suit also doesnt make sense when, for example, every company out there making TV's look pretty much the same.. So why no one is suing each other??
Another reason why I refuse to buy Apple products. This is just rediculous
10. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5273; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
"I think this is a clear indication what sort of company Apple is when put under true competition and product pressure - ie, not very nice!"
In some respects you are probably seeing Steve Jobs' response to competitive pressure that goes all the way back to when Apple lost the fight against MS over the license Apple gave MS for Windows. MS rocketed into prominence and left Apple/Steve eating MS' dust. Now Steve is in the position of dominating a market and he will die before he lets any competitor gain a foothold.
20. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Wow, you've enumerated features on Samsung phones that Apple did not include on their complaint, lol.
So what you're trying to say is that if someone copy's design cues from the iphone, but just make it a little bit bigger, it's no longer copying? Lol.
29. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
lol the galaxy s phone are not just ''bigger''...they are different materials for a start, different technology screen, home button is different shape and has also 2 capacitive buttons or has no home button and all capacitive depending on region..has a slight hump at the bottom, power button on the side, comes in different shapes and sizes, some has keyboards, different materials on the inside, camera and flash location and design very different...so just to reiterate, no its just a little bit bigger their is a lot of differences and some similarities but hey when phones are just a piece of slab there's bound to be right....and finally the biggest difference is that the galaxy s phones, most specifically the galaxy s2 are better than the iphone...i have an iphone 4 and not as you were trying to mock me last time in a different article by commenting that i only had it because it was given to me out of choice. i have an ip4 because i like the design and the amount of quality games but i am not fan of any brand but like whatever is best at the moment and therefore i am not blinded by fanboyism like isheeps such as YOU and fandroids like others which is why i also have the galaxy s2 as my main phone because it is the best phone at the moment and it shows in all tech blog reviews and also the sales.
36. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Hahahaha, the court granted Apple access to samsung devices because Apple had presented STRONG evidence of copying. Are you saying that you know better than the courts? What you're presenting here are excuses. The galaxy s lines have copied iDevices designs or interface one way or another. Even their latest tablet looks like an ipad. Stop wasting your time making excuses.
40. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
Wow they got access to products that are freely available in which apple could have got themselves without the court.... lol why do you care for apple so much....every comment you make is positive apple
55. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
How could Apple get hold of those galaxy line of devices when they are not available yet for the public? And, it is better that the permission would come from the court for due legal process purposes.
It's not that I care so much for Apple. Heck, if I find myself a device that works better for me, I'd dump my iDevices right away. I just want to give my fair opinion just like the rest of us here. And when I see some off comments, I'd definitely respond to it.
71. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
the galaxy s devices have been available for ages...i have had the galaxy s2 for over a month...but all your comments are from apples point of view its apples right and everyone else is wrong...theres plenty of phones and not everyone will want the same, idevice works for you thats great...would be nice if there was different varients of iphones though like 3 types, same spec but just different designs..what do you think lol would love one with a slide out gamepad....now nearly everone got an iphone and theres nothing to differentiate yours to someone elses...dont feel as unique as it use to when it first came out.
43. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
I never denied there ain't similarities but there are so many differences that you can tell a difference between the 2...never heard of anyone buying a Samsung product thinking it's a apple product lol would be funny though. Also there are so many varients of the Samsung galaxy s device's...why would I be making excuses...I gain nothing from Samsung winning...all I see is that finally apple have got competition and obviously apple think so too...hopefully this drives the 2 to produce even better products for us....can't wait to see the next iPhone design. Hoping its as drastric as it was going from the iPhone 3gs to the iPhone 4...iPhone 4 due for upgrade around the time the iPhone supposedly coming out so can't wait...bdissspointed
56. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Then why are you so bothered with Apple suing Sammy? It's their right. If Sammy is innocent, then they have nothing to worry about and it would just make Apple look like a cry baby. Apple employs a legal department team that gets paid high $$$ whether Apple has a lawsuit or not. Might as well make them work.
45. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
lol posted without finishing. was meant to say will be disappointed if its an iphone 3g to 3gs style upgrade ie only difference is the inside...i like to have a different looking phone each upgrade...

Samsung has managed to copy every characteristic of an iPhone on all the mobile lineup. The screen size and other aspects are to make it competitive against manufacturers like htc. Who can forget the samsung android player which mimics the iPod and so on. Apple is right in protecting themselves and if the roles were reversed samsung would do the same thing.
13. protozeloz (Posts: 5321; Member since: 16 Sep 2010)
Hate when companies want to ban each other from the market, it's such a bad move, and the looser is the consumer who perfers an specific brand.
14. Sniggly (Posts: 6468; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
I hope you didn't miss the key sentence, the one that says that Samsung has Apple by the balls with patents that are necessary for the iPhone and iPad to exist.
19. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Go on. Name those patents that Samsung has that are necessary for the iDevices to exist.
23. ibap (Posts: 675; Member since: 09 Sep 2009)
Here are the patent numbers:
U.S. Patent No. 7,675,941 on a "Method and apparatus for transmitting/receiving packet data using pre-defined length indicator in a mobile communication system"
U.S. Patent No. 7,362,867 on an "apparatus and method for generating scrambling code in UMTS mobile communication system"
U.S. Patent No. 7,447,516 on a "method and apparatus for data transmission in a mobile telecommunication system supporting enhanced uplink service"
U.S. Patent No. 7,200,792 on an "interleaving apparatus and method for symbol mapping in an HSDPA mobile communication system"
U.S. Patent No. 7,386,001 on an "apparatus and method for channel coding and multiplexing in CDMA communication system"
U.S. Patent No. 7,050,410 on an "apparatus and method for controlling a demultiplexer and a multiplexer used for rate matching in a mobile communication system"
U.S. Patent No. 6,928,604 on a "turbo encoding/decoding device and method for processing frame data according to QOS"
U.S. Patent No. 6,292,179 on a "software keyboard system using trace of stylus on a touch screen and method for recognizing key code using the same"
U.S. Patent No. 7,009,626 on a "systems and methods for generating visual representations of graphical data and digital document processing"
U.S. Patent No. 7,069,055 on a "mobile telephone capable of displaying world time and method for controlling the same"

lol great reply, now lets see what 530gemini has got to say...who always believe apple are in the right always as do all isheeps.
38. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
I could copy and paste Apple's awarded patents here as well. Would you be impressed then? Lol.
The bigger question is. Did Apple infringe on any of those claimed samsung patents or not? Did sammy win?
Goodness, you're easily impressed with copied and pasted contents that proved NOTHING :)
41. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
What doesn't apple try to patent or trade mark...think they patented grid of icons lol
57. 530gemini (Posts: 2198; Member since: 09 Sep 2010)
Apple will patent anything that they can patent. From their icons, to their smart covers, to their iphone bumpers. They are a multi billion company. There are tons of opportunists out there who would sue them in a second just to get some of Apple's wealth given the chance. Can you blame Apple for being paranoid? They've learned from their past mistakes, and they're not playing the victim anymore.
15. PhoneLuver (Posts: 460; Member since: 05 Jul 2010)
Samsung needs to stop copying Apple's designs and just be more creative! The original Galaxy Tab demonstrated at CES was a much better device than the current one! They only changed the design to match Apple. (Removed the 8MP camera, USB ports etc)
I know people like to complain about Apple and try to make this an Android vs IOS thing.
But why is nobody questioning Samsung's business ethics? Why are they trying to make their devices look like Apple's. (Galaxy Tab)
I'd rather support Asus with their Eepad transformer! They offer great value for money with more differentiating features to the iPad2.
31. taz89 (Posts: 1940; Member since: 03 May 2011)
whats wrong with making a device thinner and lighter and that is probably the reason they had to take away some features...it gives more options to people who are considering an honeycomb tablet more choices, if they want something light and thin the got tab 10.1, if the want something heavier and less slim but more features then the got other tabs for that....i personally dont care for tabs, my iphone 4 and galaxy s2 does everything a tab does but in a smaller scale and am happy with that but obviously some want that on a bigger screen....i believe in that the more choices and variety available the better it is for the consumers.

You believe in one size fits all unlike Apple with their one size fits all mentality. Poor iSheep, your master wants no variation between you all. :)
Judging by all the negative markdowns on completely debatable comments it looks like the iSheep are comming together.
That or one of the sheep created more accounts just so they could get more mark downs. (Miz)
Lol, it's so sad. I think I might cry.

Oh look, another Samsung vs Apple article!
This will end with 250 comments and hopefully it won't end with homophobic name calling like a little kid. -.-
Let's try to keep the name calling and insults at zero and have a respectable debate. :)

Kind of like the Casey Anthony story being a gift to the 24/7 news apparatus?

Yep, that story was everywhere. Facebook arguments and all.
