Apple fans step up in Russia unveiling interactive iPhone 5-shaped memorial to Steve Jobs
0. phoneArena 11 Jan 2013, 11:32 posted on
2013 will go down as the year that Apple did its best to steal coverage from CES (although the company does try to sneak in some rumors every year.) We've already had the saga of the "cheap iPhone", which won't go away, and now the Apple faithful are joining in to help by unveiling an interactive iPhone 5-shaped memorial to Steve Jobs in St. Petersburg, Russia...

Agreed. I guess we should ask his daughter Lisa if he deserves a monument. After denying a paternity test and taking 8 years to meet her for the first time.... This guy was a complete D*Bag to the core and it sickens me to see people worship him this way.
10. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
Many great men had a dark sides, that doesn't take away from their accomplishments. MLK was a womanizer, but that doesn't take away what he did for civil rights. Einstein cheated on his wife, and left his son to die in a mental hospital, never seeing him for the last 30 years of his life, but that doesn't change what he did for physics. Jobs was an ass to employees, and a jerk to Lisa for a long time, but he still did amazing things for tech.
13. billybuttpounder (banned) (Posts: 105; Member since: 28 Dec 2012)
How f*cking DARE you compare a sleazy salesman who stole the idea to make an overpriced touchscreen phone to one of the greatest and most inluential men this country has seen. Yeah, a salesman is totally on the same level as the leader of the civil rights movement.
Anyway, that still does not mean he deserves the adolation, idolization, and cult like following that he has. He was a salesman and a businessman, and he's dead now. End of story.
58. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
Sorry, i didn't expect anyone to think i was actually comparing the accomplishments of those men. It seemed obvious to me that there was no comparison on that level. I should have remembered that haters will always ignore the obvious in order to focus on whatever feeds into their existing bias. My bad.
64. opensourceftw (banned) (Posts: 148; Member since: 01 Jan 2013)
So you needed it pointed out to you that comparing a theiving insufferable salesman who pretty much NOBODY who knew him liked to THE civil rights leader, someone who actually changed the country (not just peddled electronic novelties, actual CHANGE) and brought equality to millions of Americans, and one of the most brilliant mathmeticians/scientists ever was bare minimum in extremely poor tast? Really? You really had no idea that would be seen as offensive?
I'll say it again: find a new job.
69. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
Actually, all I pointed out what that nobody is perfect. Even the best people have flaws. If all you do is focus on that, you're going to miss a lot.
I understand that I could have been more explicit in what I was saying, but again, I didn't assume that anyone would think I was comparing Jobs' accomplishments to the others, because such a comparison is so absurd.
Obviously, you hate Steve Jobs, which is your right. I think he was more than a "thieving insufferable salesman". He wasn't a good man, but he had a real impact on technology. All I'm saying is that you can hate him if you want, but there was more to him than being an asshole.
I'll say it more clearly: get more perspective. You're clouded by hate.

"He wasn't a good man, but he had a real impact on technology"
Adolph Hitler wasn't a good man, but he had a very positive impact on Germany's economy after WW1.
OK got it, now I see. As long as someone had some kind of positive impact on the world, regardless of what an evil piece of sh*t they were they deserve respect and recognition for what they did.
Making horrible analogies/comparrisons is fun!
78. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
There's a difference between a man who isn't good and one who is evil
79. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
there's also a difference between an impact and a good impact
80. thunderbolt (Posts: 76; Member since: 10 Jan 2013)
One man's food is other man's poison. Good and bad are all relative terms. Nothing is absolute about such terms. There have been bigger holocausts than what hitler caused but people only remeber hitler. So that's where "propaganda" machine like press, historians, editors, writers and bloggers have a responsibility which they unfortunately get swayed away from under the impact of money that calls the shots to shape what is written.
15. Droiddoes (unregistered)
WOW Mike, just...WOW. You compare steve "f*ck you" jobs to MLK Jr (you missed that) and Albert Einstein, two of the greatest men America has ever produced. You uh, you DO realize those two actually made a meaningful impact right? You DO realize they actually changed society for the better right? Jobs invented the ipod and stole the iphone concept, yeah TOTALLY on par with MLK and Einstein.
That sh*t^^^^ right there^^^^ is why you are called out as being an apple fanboy and a biased journalist.
Gotta agree with Billy, how dare you.
20. nwright94 (unregistered)
America didn't produce Einstein btw, he's German.
55. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
P.S. I love how you've been conspicuously silent on all of my coverage of Android and Ubuntu over the past couple weeks, but you popped up when I write an Apple article, just to jump to an incorrect conclusion and confirm your bias against me. That's some top notch trolling there.
66. opensourceftw (banned) (Posts: 148; Member since: 01 Jan 2013)
Don't flatter yourself. Out of the MANY apple articles you've written the past few days this is the only one I've directly addressed you in. It's also the only one where you made an incredibly offensive and insensitive remark.
70. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
If you are DroidDoes with a new name (anonymity is good to you), then all I can say is that I wasn't as clear as I meant to be. YOU are the one who is offended, because rather than ask me for clarification on what I said, you decided it best to simply attack me.
Oh and BTW, I've written 6 articles that were directly about Apple so far this month. 6 out of about 60. Not sure where you're getting "MANY".
73. Droiddoes (unregistered)
Well, being that your comment that started all this has 10 red thumbs you've offended at least 9 other people. LOL at your paranoia though, I'm touched that I mean that much to you!
As far as you only writing 6 adverti-I mean articles directly about apple this month (that's na average 1 every two days) key word here is directly. You have a talent for comparing everything to apple and inserting apple in most everything you write. I clearly am not the only one who sees that or feels that way, have you already forgotten how our last head to head went? General consensus is you are apple biased. Whether that's true or not, that's how people here feel.
75. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
The "general consensus" appears to be you and a few other people. And, from what I can tell, you don't actually read much, because I only compare to Apple when the material requires. Even if you were to stretch the bounds of what you consider "related" to Apple, it would still make up a minority of what I write.
As I've said before, if you come in looking for bias, you will find it even where it doesn't exist. I never meant the connection that you made. My mistake was not being as clear as I should have been. Your mistake was to infer bias rather than try to discuss what was said. I've admitted my mistake, but you never admit yours.
16. lolioslol (banned) (Posts: 182; Member since: 10 Dec 2012)
omfg did you seriously just put Jobs up on a pedestal with Martin Luther and Einstein? This is why we cant have nice things and apple fanboys are the scum of the earth. God help us.
19. opensourceftw (banned) (Posts: 148; Member since: 01 Jan 2013)
How offensive! Is there a way to report the article writers, because I find what mr H just said to be beyond offensive and disgusting.
To compare a businessman (any businessperson, I don't care how successful they were) to the man who helped unify this nation and get non whites the same treatment and rights as everyone else is profane, offensive, and mildly racist.
To compare a businessman to one of the greatest minds this planet has ever seen is offensive and reeks of fanboyism and just plain poor journalism.
You should be fired for this.
21. nwright94 (unregistered)
You guys totally missed the point. He wasn't comparing Jobs as an equal (didn't MLK Jr point out all men are equal btw?) he was just showing that no one is perfect. You guys ignored that part of it and just drilled into the him saying Steve jobs and totally missed what he was trying to say. You lost all sense of objectivity just so you could throw a hissy-fit in the comment section.
23. opensourceftw (banned) (Posts: 148; Member since: 01 Jan 2013)
No. You do not compare a salesman to the leader of the civil rights movement and one of the the greatest minds of our time.
An appropriaqte comparison would've been to Bill Gates, Steve Wozniak, RIM CEO (drawing a blank on his name), Kaz Hirai etc. Fellow businessman and salespeople. I'm sure they have their flaws, but none of them are in the same league as MLK or Einstein, and neither was jobs.
24. nwright94 (unregistered)
You're still missing the point -_- your android bias is getting in the way of clear thinking.
32. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
Not saying Jobs is in the same league as those guys, they were just the first examples for great men with dark sides that popped into my head. Gates and Woz had similar impacts on tech to Jobs, but neither had the dark side, as far as I know.
Jobs' accomplishments are certainly on a lower tier than MLK or Einstein, but he was more than just a "sleazy salesman".
He had a profound impact on PCs, digital media, computer animation, and mobile devices. Whether or not you like Apple products, you should be able to admit that Apple products have changed markets, and a lot of that is attributable, even in part, to Steve Jobs.
That doesn't dismiss the way he was related to factories in China, or mining operations in Africa, his treatment of employees, or his family. But, his shortcomings also don't dismiss the good things he did either.
You guys can hate all you want, but I'd rather see the whole picture, and not just focus on the good or the bad that supports a bias.

I forgot that we live in a world were men are not created equally.
46. XPERIA-KNIGHT (unregistered)
you guys are blowing it out of proportion! Can we have a "heated" discussion WITHOUT getting truly hurt and offended??
Michael IS FAR from as bad as you are perceiving him to be.........
How many GREAT articles has he put out compared to some "debatable" ones?
lets be mature about the situation.........and also IT IS NOT up to you wether he gets fired or not so lets not start talking like that! PERIOD
59. wumberpeb (Posts: 449; Member since: 14 Mar 2011)
I'm blown away at how far these idiots just took that argument against Michael...Do you guys read? Ever? Really think he was comparing Einstein to Steve Jobs, or maybe he just drew some parallels...
Did that really just happen? I've lost complete respect for all those dishing out the lashing to Michael over something they couldn't even wrap their heads around...f+#king morons
Stop jumping all over the guy
76. jmoney62987 (Posts: 31; Member since: 16 Mar 2010)
Yea I totally agree; he wasn't even comparing them. He was just saying even accomplished men can do dumbass things..but it doesn't change that they ACCOMPLISHED things. Those accomplishments of course not being equal.
65. jaoowolabi (Posts: 201; Member since: 07 Jun 2012)
What kinda d**k father names one of his first products after his daughter?

Now that's one HUGE UGLY IPHONE and still looks the same just like the rest of them
25. nwright94 (unregistered)
This comment section PROVES that this website has gone to hell. It's ridiculous, you android people don't give one f*ck that other people have different opinions from you, you bash them anyway. Steve Jobs, like it or not, was part of the revolution which is making tech today what it is. He may not of made any of the products, but he still was part of it. Just get the hell over yourselves already and learn some objectivity! It's not that hard!
35. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
You seem to forget that not too long ago the comment section was filled with Apple people who didn't give one f*ck that other people had different opinions. The way things are now is no better or worse than before, it's just a different side being the loud jerks. No matter what, it's always just attacking each other for having different opinions rather than being respectful of opinions.
37. nwright94 (unregistered)
Yeah, those crazy Apple people are gone thankfully but I never saw any of them go as far as some of these android fans do, like one blaming the sandy hook shooting on iOS users. Those types of comments from iOS users may have been there and I just missed them, but a lot of these guys go way too far.
61. joey_sfb (Posts: 3525; Member since: 29 Mar 2012)
Its just a different in opinion. I have no great respect for steve job because he is a self serving prick. No better or worse than me or you. He is good at marketing and package a guru in that area but as a person, No! I chose not to respect him even when i was a apple fan.
43. EclipseGSX (Posts: 1671; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
wow "f*ck"...how professional. I used to like you Michael

But you weren't quoting him, no need to drop to his troll level. Just sayin'
