Apple execs "seething" because everyone loves Google Maps

Google Maps for iOS is a pretty awesome app, and everyone knows it. It soared to number one on the iTunes chart, and has widely gotten rave reviews from around the Internet, but not everyone is so happy that Google Maps is awesome. Not surprisingly at all, Apple execs are reportedly "seething" because of all the Google love going around...

Definitely a poor move. I would have milked that contract for the extra year to prep a proper map application

they did that because they had'nt anything new for ios 6.

Same reason Siri was released as a beta product, there wasn't enough wow factor for that release without it.

Except iMaps wasn't released as a beta product. Maybe now it is being called a beta product, but at release, there was no such disclaimer.

They even called it as the "most beautiful, powerful mapping service ever," LMAO!

I think I just see where they get the beta designation:
"most BEauTiful, powerful mApping service ever,"
Bet you never knew it was a beta release, did you?

Seething? I can imagine Tim Cook is slapping himself everytime he sees a praise for Google Maps. As there are a lot of them so Tim must be slapping himself wildly LOL.
Seething it is.

I could see Jonny Ives newest job title. Tim cooks personal bitch slap receiver.

"The thing that confuses us a bit is exactly why Apple execs would be so angry given that they brought all this on themselves."
Projection. It is much easier to blame someone else for their f*ckup than to accept responsibility. Call it Forstall syndrome.
38. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 14 Dec 2012, 18:38 4 1
This is Apple's culture: Never apologize, never accept responsibility.
In fact it is said that Steve Jobs never gave any1 2nd chance so at Apple only mad people accept responsibility for a failure, that's why Forstall refused to sign the apology.
53. DetroitTech posted on 15 Dec 2012, 15:11 0 0
Except Steve Jobs probably wouldn't have let out the map program the way it was. He would have whipped people into the night until it was... perfect. It's true but he would have been praised for it. Unfortunately that's how it's got to be in this tight business race. There is no room for mediocritity.

Google Maps is a great free advertisement for Android, if you like it, come and get the whole Google experience. Even the dumbest have to know when to jump ship.

Google was waiting for the right moment.... When all the bad horrendous criticizing reviews abt imaps was starting to flourish..google was waiting for this moment... To come and rescue all the isheeps which got lost and Google showed them the way back to the herd & earn their trust.. To show them there is something more than the cage you are living in.come into the land of Android, where freedom and possibilities are endless!!!

Great point!
I guess people reason like this: Google's software is sooo good, and Android is Google's software so why not give it a try?
And now they realize Apple's lack of innovation is naked fact.
44. Ruckus posted on 14 Dec 2012, 22:19 0 1
Listen fellas, Google Maps wasn't always great and still has many flaws. For example I live in Pennsylvania. It says the university of Oregon State is half a mile from here?? Also says we have two RadioShacks when there's just one. Apple is just starting out, give them time. They'll get it. Im not saying Apple Maps will be as good or better than Google Maps but they'll greatly improve it.
47. MeoCao (unregistered) posted on 14 Dec 2012, 23:46 0 0
I see your point, the problem for Apple is their maps has very little chance now. They had the chance, did not take it and it's gone.
You can convince 1, 2, 3.. people but for the millions Google Maps is the best and rightly so.
Without people using it Apple Maps has no chance to catch Google Maps. Some huge fumble from Google will give it another chance, but things now are not in Apple's hand anymore.
52. poopsicle posted on 15 Dec 2012, 13:13 0 5
This makes no sense. Just because iPhone users are excited for Google Maps, doesn't mean they should go get the full Google experience. Android is buggy, always has been, always will be due to the way it is built. When you have THAT many manufacturers, THAT many UI's, THAT much fragmentation with software, app developers cant make stable software. Granted, no software is 100% stable but iOS is MUCH more stable than Android.
Have you ever compared two of the same apps on Apple and Google. the iOS version always works/looks nicer.
I'm no Apple fanboy. I just had an LG Optimus G for a few weeks. And that thing did more buggy software crap than my iPhone of the past year ever has.
56. OSFantasma posted on 15 Dec 2012, 23:40 0 0
sorry just have to reply... Do you mean to say apple has no bugs? Apples not buggy well this article you just commented on has proved your comment irrelevant why do you think millions are downloading Google maps BTW i didn't thumb you down.. Also please describe what you were experiencing when you say something is buggy it could be anything. If you don't want that optimus G im game just send it my way. i'll take great care of it....

When you are frightened by changes in your guaranteed money you will resort to all sorts of tactics to stem the tide. Hence the slap dash methods applied by Apple of late, right now they are not the Darling of the tech world anymore and they are hating this more than anything. It's what happens when you become so full of yourself you think you can do no wrong and then one day someone pulls the rug out from under you and you fall flat on your face.
On your way up to the top remember to treat those you pass with dignity and respect because when you fall you will see those faces again, lol.

16. downphoenix posted on 14 Dec 2012, 15:14 1 0
Yea, they brought it on themselves. Why couldnt apple had just did something with the Google Maps APIs to create their own navigation program for it? Google Maps Navigation is just a separate app that uses Maps APIs for example to provide turn by turn voice navigation, Apple could have done the same and saved themselves a LOT of headache.

Interesting how the silence from the usual suspects community of Apple defenders is so pervasive. Both this thread and the thread about Apple's share price. I mean at least make an effort.

I think most people who don't absolutely hate apple have moved to another website because the comment sections are ridiculous. Personal attacks on everyone from some of the android crowd if your post isn't about hating apple. This is becoming a great android site, like androidcentral, but if you actually enjoy using some apple products (I'm not bashing android at all btw) then other websites are far far far better.
54. jroc74 posted on 15 Dec 2012, 15:37 0 0
With as much RIM and WP coverage PA does....I wouldnt say this is becoming a great Android site. What you see happening is Android and its popularity. Thats all.

Im not defending Apple's mistskes, but I think this is an excellent example of propaganda propagated by writers all over the Internet. I'm sure Apple isn't happy with how this all turned out but where does the "seething" come in. After reading the source, it was clear that John Gruber is just a random blogger/writer on the Internet who has no idea what's going on in Apple.

i luv it plus apple sales and china didnt sale well too .....because they know android is the world wide ppl in the usa stuck on stupid apple logo ,,,,but i see ppl using google+ on the iphone ....so apple should try work with companys not try to battle all the time....thats aother reason why android is open minded not apple stuck in their ways

Well apple should get up off their asses stop resting on their laurels, and handle this map fiasco. Apple has the clout, capital, and other resources to get it handled. Just do it. If apple allows themselves to get left in the dust, it's no ones fault but their own.

29. darkkjedii posted on 20 Sep 2012, 10:28 2 12
Nope it's not, but do u honestly expect apple not to address these issues with future updates and fix it. C'mon... Apple released a brand new from the ground up map app, with no prior experience in the field, they will get it rite with a few updates and it'll b all good.
32. darkkjedii posted on 14 Dec 2012, 18:12 1 0
Yes I do, and apple had greatly improved maps since then. I'm a man, and don't back down form what I say bro. And I'm also not a fanboy...there's stuff I don't like about apple and will damn well say it. Also rants on PA isn't my life. I have a fiancé, and a son to look out for. My schedule is AM cardio, work, PM weight training, and family time. In 3 months copy and post this.

42. darkkjedii posted on 14 Dec 2012, 19:07 1 0
Bro I don't work for Apple you don't work for Google so I can absolutely care less. I have an iPhone five and I love it I have a HTC one X and I love it so that is that and that is all I can care less about the issues at hand when they are fixed they are fixed and that is that
43. darkkjedii posted on 14 Dec 2012, 19:15 1 2
And one more thing I don't understand Apple I defend peoples right to use Apple's products googles products Windows product and BlackBerries product or whatever else they want to use. The reason that I end up defending iOS more because is of stupid android users who want to sit there all day and bash iOS and disrespect iOS Users because they choose to use that particular platform and I will continue to do such
27. jroc74 posted on 14 Dec 2012, 17:35 0 0
And they should be seething. Like I said the other day, let this be a lesson for Apple....
I still feel if they woulda labeled it Beta....it wouldnt have been that big a deal.
29. Jay..Apple4Ever posted on 14 Dec 2012, 17:48 3 0
They are angry because they are guilty..They were boasting about how their maps were so good..It wasn't ready and it backfired big time..Now here comes google with their awesome Maps to save the day..Apple needs to realize that others create great software too not just them..
Instead of "seething" they should wake up and start "seeing" reality, which is they messed up.
Anyone who's anyone knows I love Apple and their Eco system fits into my lifestyle but what's fair is fair.
31. XPERIA-KNIGHT posted on 14 Dec 2012, 18:07 1 0
as long as they continue to "seeth" they will continue to be knocked down! plain and simple.........but it was said before that apple is being MADE to be humble its not a choice anymore.....
34. roscuthiii posted on 14 Dec 2012, 18:30 0 0
So... Siri was a working app before being released as an integrated but beta labeled app, and the iPhone had still had a year left on the contract for a working maps app yet again went with an integrated, but beta product.
Hmm... It seems Apple is very adamant about not letting its users make their own mistakes, but has no problem letting their users fix Apple's mistakes. The next iPhone shouldn't be called the Apple iPhone 5S; it should be the iBeta.
iBeta get a different phone.
37. roscuthiii posted on 14 Dec 2012, 18:32 1 0
Oh, I guess beta testing goes back a bit further than that even with the whole finding out their new antenna technology on the outside of the phone lead to greater attenuation requiring a rubber band.

As other Apple insiders have written, there is a culture of arrogance inside Apple. Them being upset that they failed and that their competitor is heralded as the savior is only par for that type of course. Hubris.
