Apple claims Samsung knew its Galaxy line took its design cues from Apple and was warned by Google

0. phoneArena 25 Jul 2012, 19:08 posted on

An unredacted (no blacked out spots) copy of Apple's trial brief shows that when the Apple v. Samsung patent battle goes to trial next week, the Cupertino based tech firm will claim that Samsung knew that its designs copied those belonging to the Apple iPhone and Apple iPad...

But damn if they can really prove that even Google warned them.... things might just be getting started. Lol google thinks Samsung copied wow. And did you read the comment Samsung's Product Design Group said? It's "regrettable" that the Galxaxy S "looks similar" to the iPhone. And also famous phone designers agree that their devices look too similar. It looks like Apple's fantasy world may in fact be very real.

Google's people's opinions are subjective and mean nothing in court. SS can disagree with those opinions and that's OK.

One question is why Apple did not take any action when the Galaxy S looked indeed similar to old iPhone model (with very limited success) but now when Galaxy S3 is anything but similar to iPhone (but wildly successful)?

Apple is suing for damages caused by lost sales due to the initial build-up of success of the GS1 which was according to them copied the OG iPhone's design.

Google and Samsung are teammates in this whole Samsung vs Apple vs Google dispute. If Google as a company went out of their way to warn Samsung, along with other well know cell phone designers, then yea this will have weight in court and Apple will use it. How will it sound to say that Google not only agrees that Samsungs devices copy Apple's design, but they also warned Samsung against their designs, possibly foreseeing this whole legal dispute? Kinda bad

I was under the impression that the original Galaxy S line was included, but I could be wrong. Anyway, the Galaxy Nexus isn't selling like hot cakes and yet the device is included.

I don't think Google's opinion proves anything to the judge, the judge will rely on FACTS but not some 3rd party's opinion.

But Google's opinion will be huge to discredit Samsung - and this is the real motive of Apple's lawsuits imho.

Does anyone else want a major manufacturer to come out with a 4" 16:9 phone just to spite apple? Doesn't even have to be good, just enough that the alleged designs are "copying"

We should convince apl.de.ap to start his own smartphone manufacturing business just to piss Apple off. His appstore would be named Apl Appstore and apple could never ever sue him because that is his celebrity name! lol :p

I have got thumbs down because I appreciated the fact.
Another fact is the sales of iPhone 5 would be drastically low.
If you guys don't agree wait and watch when they release.

Reason would be that same s**tty design over dead icon based iOS which has got 200 invisible features again lolzzzz

Remember! Mr. Job is wishing for thermonuclear with Samsung. Did you remember that? A moronic idea that Apple adapted is not innovation because Apple knew, it could not come up with any. Just think next iPhone5 is a 4" screen, no 5" nor SD.

I agree apple needs to increase the screen size, but sd isn't necessary when u have 64 gigs and cloud storage. Even some android makers r getting away from sd. No current androids have 64 gigs, samsungs 64 gig gs3 isnt even being made yet, and there's talk that it won't be at all. Sd is cool but y do u not comment on apple at least giving gobs of internal flash storage. They were the first with 4, 8 ,16, 32, and 64 gigs of external storage. That is innovative.

What really gets me is how the iPhone 4 stole its design from the 2007 LG Prada. Then Apple patents the styling and sues Samsung...

Okay I'm ready for my ban, this will be the third warning this week and therefore a ban. I got my last warning for a simple statement that "I hate Apple." They said I was trolling. I can't believe that a simple statement about a company I dislike got me a warning... I guess I don't really have "freedom of speech" on a privately owned website.

But Apple will come down fast and will a hold some niche market share only against total domination of Android, just like Mac against Windows.

The truth is a closed ecosystem can never compete with a open 1.

I think this is Apple's fault: They use such generic design that not only SS but many other manufacturers also have such generic design and similar to Apple's. I think Apple pays tonnes of money to push their petty patents through USPTO and that why only Apple has such ridiculous patents like "disappearing the scroll bar" or "slide to unlock" or "rounded rectangle".

If Apple wants to be different they should put their logo in front or use some other distinctive unique features. Samsung has their logo on the front and that's the way to go.

I agree that iPhone was revolutionary and changed everything just as Steve Jobs said. So not only SS but the whole mobile industry changed b-c of it.

But should Apple cling to that glorious history and not allow others to compete and hinder innovation with their "rounded rectangle" patent?

APPLE is making it obvious that they are afraid of competition! Don't act like loosers....after all phones design gonna look similar anyways! Get over it and lunch an iphone 5 that beats Samsung galaxy s3 hand down. It appears to me that Apple is agreeing that Samsung is better, though they are! after all they produce more that 60% of iphone's parts...

People may have different opinions about this case, but 1 thing is clear: customers (including iPhone users) are the winners when SS bring the fight to Apple, SS products are much more powerful and cheaper too. Those who value refined experience can always choose iPhone.

The funny thing is, while they're complaining about stealing ideas apple is moving the iphone 5 up to 4" inch mark... That is an android idea coming from apple fans themselves! Im not saying apple is wrong because even the article implies that google tried to warn them......So that is saying alot and sounds like its in favor for apple here. BUT apple can not act like they're aren't doing any "idea" stealing as well.....Android is so creative and customizable that it is very hard for even the dedicated apple fans to not ask for a bit of what android has been doing for years now. A bigger screen is something obvious and something EVERYONE requires these days, the only thing is if apple fans see the other stuff they are missing out on,(no restrictions, customization, Jellybean lol) then it is going to be tough for apple to stay in the game. Apples move to the 4 in mark is clearly a way of surviving the onslaught of what android is bringing and continues to bring.......To put it simple, android is only going to get better and better as time goes on and it will be really hard to keep up with them without copying there style in one way or the other...
