Harsh... In the end their legal fees will well outweigh any litigation even if it ends up in their favor.

Apple recently patent the word "wife"
Now u'll be sued by Apple Inc for calling ur wife wife.

67. andro. posted on 24 Jul 2012, 18:32 5 1

Legal representatives have stated the word 'bife' has been deemed acceptable by apple to be used as an alternative

Especially the part that Sammy's patents IN TOTAL are worth only 1/2 of 1 penny.... And people wonder why Sammy is fighting Apple. At this point, Sammy has no choice but to challenge the validity of every patent that Apple is trying to assert.

Apple is just being a PIG.

79. smartphone posted on 24 Jul 2012, 22:04 7

These are very basic features and are available on almost every smartphone.
Apple strategy - take down the greatest rival and others will submit without fighting.
Please Apple try sueing nokia - microsoft and then you will get lessons about true patents in telecommunications and smartphones.

All I can say after this....is wow.

It is beyond funny. Borderline hysterical....

3. Tre-Nitty posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:29

So you think if Apple is awarded 2 billion, the legal fees will outweigh that?

10. Jay_F posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:37 4

Ok I exaggerated lol. I honestly don't think that they're even in this for the money anymore. Sure it's 2 billion which is still unfathomable to most people, but to a company as big as Apple I just don't see what they'd get out of it. They're worth over $600 billion. They just want the victory over Samsung that gives them the bragging rights that the courts decided that Samsung copied from Apple.

15. remixfa posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:43 16 2

what are they getting out of it? They are basically suing for every penny samsung has ever made on the galaxy line-- quite literally.

Like everything else , apple is overreaching hoping to scare competition into submission.

23. cptbeatstix posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:07

Thus is the vicious cycle business. When someone's product rivals yours, you do whatever it takes to stay in first. The only difference with this situation is that Apple is taking on almost every android manufacturer to try to remain king of phone and tablet sales. Honestly, Sammy thankfully has other amazing products (i.e. Fridges, washers and dryers) to keep them afloat. Just wait until Apple tries to sue Microsoft, they will be pummeled into the ground by a real Communications giant.

43. remixfa posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:38 1

those are not the same company. Samsung is a conglomerate of a dozen or more separate companies or "arms". Samsung electronics, construction ,ship making, mobile/display, ect are all separate pieces that dont profit share with each other. The samsung "hub" might have access to all, but thats about it.
Also, samsung's mobile electronic business is by far its most profitable. Cutting off that arm is a serious blow to samsung.

57. cptbeatstix posted on 24 Jul 2012, 17:16

But, I don't think it's going to kil Samsung off as a whole. I do stand corrected on the "arm" sense of the company.

72. joey_sfb posted on 24 Jul 2012, 19:07 1 1

Apple don't have the guts to sue M$. M$ is no push over and Apple knows it. They playing my enemy's enemy is my friend card.

74. Jay_F posted on 24 Jul 2012, 19:34 1

What the hell are you talking about?? Are you saying that Samsung is a pushover? Evidently not. Apple has no reason whatsoever to go after Microsoft at this point in time since Windows has to this point been unsuccessful in the mobile phone/tablet market. Maybe if Microsoft makes a serious statement with Windows(phone) 8, Apple will consider what moves they'll make up to go after Microsoft.

87. lauremar posted on 25 Jul 2012, 14:42

That is because M$ owns half of Apple! Remember when Apple was about to go under / bankrupt and and Jobs came back as CEO? Jobs talked to Gates and borrowed a boat load of $$$ to save Apple Inc. This is the main reason why Apple will never sue Microsoft.

"Apple claims that the Galaxy line copies the look and feel..."

How it is possible to copy a feel ?
Does Apple have patents for a feelings ? :D

24. cptbeatstix posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:08 13 1

Apple has feelings?

31. PhoneArenaUser posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:24 12 1

If greed counts as a feeling, then yes.

33. ardent1 posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:25 1 7

Luxury products get copied all the time. Just go to mainland China, the land of knockoffs -- these knockoff artists are experts in copying the look and feel of any luxury product.

Have you looked into the Rolex -- that is one great example of a product where its look and feel is being copied.

78. chebner posted on 24 Jul 2012, 20:57 3 1

Hey Ardent, comparing Samsung to knock off artists making fake Rolexes shows the world how much you lack the capicity for intelligent thought.

35. smartphonemad posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:29 3 1

ifans talk about how cheap Samsung devices feel compared to apples... So how is this copying?!

37. cdgoin posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:29 2

In the amount the Samsung phones copies the iPhone look and feel, The iPhone copies the look and feel of half the HTC Windows Mobile 6.5 phones that were out a year before the first iPhone. I am really surprised MS hasnt taken on Apple, after all the crap they gave MS for being a "monopoly". Whos acting like a "monopoly" now..?

5. ilia1986 posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:32 10 3

LOL this is really funny.

It's as if Hitler were to demand 2.5 billion dollars for the damage the US caused during the second world war. And yes, the reference is intentional.

6. structureman116 posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:33 7 1

Unreal! Just to clarify for Apple...I have a VZW GNex...my wife has a VZW cryphone...my Gnex does not look or feel anything like her piece of $h*t!

7. ekia007 posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:34 8 1

Never heard of a story on Apple lost 2.5 billion because of Samsung. All the articles is about Apple is breaking record on selling iPhone and iPad. Such a ridiculous amount to ask from Samsung. If I were a Judge, I will immediately reject their filing. Non sense at all!!! Greedy Tim Cook!!!

12. Aeires (unregistered) posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:41 5 1

And the real hypocrisy, Apple shifts their iPad screens to LG as the supplier. LG, the same company that has a phone UI identical to Samsung's Touchwiz, which Apple is irate over because it looks like iOS (so they say).

64. jroc74 posted on 24 Jul 2012, 18:27 1 1

Oh dont worry....they may just start suing LG soon.

I would REALLY like to see that lawsuit tho....really.

13. structureman116 posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:42 4 1

And I like how Apple thinks their patents and are worth $2 and $3 up to $24 per unit...yet Samsungs patents are valued by Apple at less than half a cent per unit. The government has already let Apple get away with too many frivilous lawsuits wasting taxpayer money and all kinds of other BS. They now have a sense of entitlement...they are acting like my wife with their "Whats mine is mine and whats yours is mine" attitude. Some judge somewhere needs to put an end to this before it ruins the US justice and patent system (more than they already are)

14. Santi_Santi posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:43 3 1

PFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!! "and $24 for the use of Apple's design patents."
$24 bucks for a regtangle?

61. Zero0 posted on 24 Jul 2012, 18:19 2 1

I don't know if you knew this, but Samsung also copied other Apple design innovations such as having evenly rounded corners, and icons laid out in a grid. Their efforts are worthy of WAY more than $24 per unit.

I know the minute I saw the Samsung Galaxy S, I said "This product is rectangular, but has rounded corners. The square icons are in a grid. Because of these features, I am going to purchase the Galaxy S over the Apple iPhone."

16. frydaexiii posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:47 5 1

How does Apple even count the amount of money lost due to patent infrigement? What, for every customer that considered buying an iPhone but instead decided to buy a Samsung Galaxy counts as 1? Yeah right, Samsung phones cost almost the same as iCraps. If people wanted the iCrap in the first place, they would just buy an iCrap since the Samsung phones are just "slavish copies". The fact that Samsung Galaxys' sell means customers already see the 2 devices as different ones.

Apple is just pissed that someone actually beating or is coming close to beating them at their only piece of crap that they could sell after years of being established as the retards of the computer world.

21. disneydad posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:01 5 1

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA......retards of the computer world.

Classic!

26. kyp5035 posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:09 1 7

samsung's copying and beating them that's why they dnt like that
no one would like it if you bought something and someone stole it and sold it off to someone and made money off of it...exactly like that..

47. dragonscourgex posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:50 5 1

How is Samsung copying? Please tell me, I have used a Samsung Captivate for two years and my wife has a Iphone 4....nether phone look anything a like or function the same. Why is it cause they both are rectangles? Every phone is a rectangle....any other shape would be retarded. But if the shape is the reason then I think Lego need to stop sitting on their butts and jump on this, they have been using rectangle for their products way before apple did for it's phone.

PA had an article about 1 month ago listing 11 patents that Samsing and android were found guilty of infringing. Also to help you out here's a link.

http://samsungcopiesapple.tumblr.com/

Also there was an article 2 days ago that Apple will present evidence that Samsings own design team admitted to copying Apple and also Google warned Samsing to stop making their products so similar.

65. jroc74 posted on 24 Jul 2012, 18:29 1

If they really wanna go after a company....why dont they go after the folks behind the Meizu MX phone?

That looks more like an iPhone than anything Samsung did/does.

77. frydaexiii posted on 24 Jul 2012, 20:40 2

The thing is, both a Samsung and an iPhone (The high ends at least) cost the same. So if the Samsung is a "plain copy" as Apple puts it, then why didn't people just buy the "original"? Why would someone spend the same amount of money on a copy when you can buy the original?

82. jroc74 posted on 25 Jul 2012, 04:11

Cuz it seems in Apple's world.....if you dont choose the iPhone.....you are choosing wrong.

NOW I see why the iFans act the way they do....

17. poojaroy posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:50 2 1

in this case judge will spank on tim cook's ass and send him home crying lol....the future apple is going to crash very soon and than tim cook will hide and escorted by US army to his house every night like nokia's CEO

20. FrostyDanny posted on 24 Jul 2012, 14:58 2 1

Copys the look and fell and feel of the iphone and ipad? Thats the biggest bulls**t i have ever heard! hahaha Didnt apple copy the notifcations from Andoid? There is nothing innovative to steal from the iphone!!!

28. kyp5035 posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:12 1 11

entire android operating system is copied off of apple's iphone

36. cptbeatstix posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:29 5 1

And the iPhone is a copycat of the phone nokia had a prototype for in 1996. Only Nokia isn't suing everyone on the face of the telecommunications planet. Pull Apple's you know what out of your mouth iSheep.

48. dragonscourgex posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:52 5 1

The "entire android operating system" is based off of Linux.

Says someone who just spouts off what they read in forums, on the net instead of really examining an iPhone and Android phone.

Try again after you REALLY look at an iPhone and Android phone.

The settings area ALONE says they are different.

27. Sniggly posted on 24 Jul 2012, 15:10 3 1

Oh, so we finally have the proof why Apple isn't getting anywhere with Samsung during negotiations. It's exactly as I said what, one, two years ago? Apple's claims are extortionist and completely f**king unreasonable.

I especially love the bit at the end: "We demand 24 bucks a unit because you have rounded corners too, but you should only get a FU.CKING HALF A CENT per unit if you win on your patents, which are ESSENTIAL FOR OUR PHONES TO EXIST!"

91. taco50 (banned) posted on 28 Jul 2012, 16:13

All the less reason Samsung should have similar looking phones. It's not essential to having a working phone.

Maybe it's essential to having a phone that sells though?
