Apple asks ITC to add newer Samsung models to import ban
0. phoneArena 16 Oct 2013, 15:34 posted on
Earlier this month, we told you that because the President failed to veto an ITC based import ban, certain older Samsung models cannot be shipped into the U.S. Korean based Samsung still has one last hope, which is an appeal it filed in court; the ITC has found that Samsung was guilty of infringing on a pair of Apple's patents...

If Samsung dropped Apple as a partner the iphone would die.

I don't think so. Maybe a year or two ago, yeah, but not now. They main thing that Samsung makes for the iPhone that couldn't be replaced was the processor, but now that they have TSMC as a partner they won't be using Samsung for the A8 chip.

That's what people were saying about the A7.

They also make the RAM and flash storage as 2 other main parts.
20. Berzerk000 (Posts: 4275; Member since: 26 Jun 2011)
Flash storage is replaceable, not sure about RAM though, I don't know any other manufacturers that make RAM for mobile devices, though I'm sure there are some.

Are you from US? If so, you don't know that Micron, a US company from Idaho Boise, is the 2nd largest memory supplier in the world, which also supplies mobile ram.

They did say that originally, but it wasn't until mid-2013 did Apple actually make a deal with TSMC, way too late to make the A7 chip, now they actually have the time.

I think he means that at the moment Apple needs Samsung due to their ability to crank out a ton of chips in short order. While they do have an agreement with TSMC, so far every time that Apple has tired to go with another supplier for their components, they end up back with Samsung. Look what happened when they tried to go with another display supplier. They were gonna have both LG and Sharp handle their displays (for one of the iPads I believe) and both ran into issues (one had QC issues and the other couldn't keep up with the demand). Love 'em or hate 'em, Samsung can crank out a massive amount of components with a negligible amount of quality issues. Time will tell if this partnership with TSMC will yield Apple the results they want.

Apple is really ridiculous they are a new mobile player and yet play the disruptive ploy start suing everyone that any court would have and best of all their supplier that supply 80% of the device components. Yes, earlier Samsung design might resemble iPhone but that how every one is doing their business improve and compete with newer and better devices in a rapid pace till Apple start dragging the court system into their business model.
And after 5 year i finally know why they refuse to improve their design on a yearly basis like what every other manufacturer is doing. They cling on to what work for them and reuse their design.
Refuse to pay for a standard 3G license like everyone else.
Charge an exorbitant price for iPhone.
The only saving grace is each and every country are waking up to their business tactic of bending the legal system to do their bidding.
Like every bad situation, the good side is Samsung is make stronger and people like me has started to notice them. I am sure there are ex-Apple fans that feel the same as me stop buying into Apple and move to their competitors instead.

Anything they have to do to kep that NO.1 spot. I hope that Google goes after Apple for all the new improvments/ features in iOS 7 beings they are all available on Android and have been for quite some time.

What Samsung devices are they trying to add to the ban as well? That is kinda of a important aspect to this story. Hence Samsung phones like the Droid Charge and other of that nature wont make a impact beings they are not being manufactured aymore. Now, if they are trying to ban the Note series wether its the two or three, the S4, S3, etc. Then we have a issue.
11. techaman (unregistered)
it is the note 2 next will be my gs3 god help them if they come after my gs3. the only phone i have had for 2 years and would still keep it for another 2 years no problem, i mean i got 2 gig ram its all good.
13. Shatter (Posts: 2036; Member since: 29 May 2013)
Why do people think ram helps devices so much? Know the performance difference between a PC with 16GB of ram and 64GB of ram? None. No normal user will use more than around 8GB of ram max right now. On android no device needs more than 2GB right now, its getting close though to Samsung put 3GB in the Note 3 for some future proofing.
What matters way more: CPU, GPU, read/write speed, latency. People always upgrade their ram to "Speed up their PC" after 8GB the benefit is next to nothing unless you are doing stuff like encoding and rendering.
29. tedkord (Posts: 11996; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Ram does speed up a PC. More ram = fewer trips to the disk, which is inherently slower. It also allows for more multitasking.

As far as Apple is concerned, all Samsung phones should be banned. Competition scares them.
