Apple asks Foxconn to ship two new iPhones in early September

0. phoneArena 19 Aug 2013, 15:04 posted on

We've heard a lot of rumors about the new iPhones that Apple has in the works right now. The general consensus is that the new iPhone 5S will be announced on September 10th. And, given what we've heard today about the iPhone 5C possibly being a replacement for the iPhone 5, it seems likely that it would also be announced at the same time, despite earlier rumors to the contrary. Now, there is a report from the Wall Street Journal that Apple has asked Foxconn to ship two new iPhones in early September...

I wonder if Apple is trying to capitalize on the "Metal=Premium, Plastic=Cheap" sentiment. Subliminally at least, marketing plastic as the cheaper of two options is a weapon against Samsung's premium lineup.

It will backfire when the Galaxy S5 launches sporting something like Steel or Magnesium alloy instead of cheap alumnium.

I think Titanium would be perfect
It would very light (unlike steel)
And very hard/more durable, so less scratches (harder than steel, aluminum and magnesium).

Though probably cost the most.

Exactly, but how much we have to pay for a titanium uni-body cellphone?

I think samsung can challenge apple because we can find many choices ranging from $50-$750, but for apple, we only have one choice for the previous 6 generations

Good move. Have to be desperate since 4th September is the day that Apple will get stunned.

Yes, historically, the announcement of new Android devices has killed iPhone sales...ok, so maybe in you fantasy land, only. In the real world, the iPhone is still the world's best-selling phone, at least through the last 4 generations.

You question me, even though you know I am right? Each generation of iPhone has sold more than the previous, and each one has sold more than any smartphone since the 3Gs was launched. No Galaxy has come close go the corresponding iPhone, nor has any other model.

I just dont understand these people who are making up facts about samsung. Apple still leads in the sales and quality of phones and in customer satisfaction.

@Joey SFB

HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung all use Android OS - yet they are in direct competition with each other - all trying to put each other out of business - yet you speak of Android as if they are all together and they aren't. This is just one of the reason Samsung ( who has the best selling Android phone ) wants to get away from Android. Tizen phones are being tested. Samsung Co-CEO says Tizen is not just a simple alternative. Samsung is going to try and diversify away from Android to a copy cat they developed with Intel called Tizen.

You're the one who failed math. Best selling Android phone so far is the Galaxy S4 - it shipped a record 10 million in just the 1st month. The iPhone 5 sold 5 million in the first 5 days.. You know why it didn't sell more? They ran out of iPhones ! How would I know ? I work for one of the 3 big carriers. This is why the iPhone makes more money then all the money.

iPhone 5 sales so far : 55,750,000

@Joey SFB

iPhone 5 sales so far: 55,750,000
Samsung G4 sales so far: 30,000,000

The BEST selling Android phone got outsold by 20 million units. It doesn't matter how many units other Android phones sold - as they are also in competition. Samsung's sales obviously don't help HTC's, or LG'...

"The world" is a slightly different concept than "the United States of America"…

They don't understand what you mean by best selling. They think you mean quarterly vs overall. The iPhone brand is the single best selling line of phones. Not a fanboy statement, just fact.

but they used to outsell all manufacturers brand combined together....not anymore

there is a caveat at this concept. The 4S may be older but it'll look more premium optically than the 5C. And this premium feel is what many people look for when they purchase an iPhone. Are the sure at Apple about this strategy?

Especially for $99.99 on contract. Won't the 5 cost the same anyways? If it's supposed to be similar to the 5, the only reasons I can see people buying this are a) because it's newer; or b) because it's colorful.

Well according to the rumors, the iPhone 5 will be discontinued so that this 5C will sell. I guarantee the 5 would outsell the 5C hands down, so I guess that's why it's being discontinued after only one year.

See, what I gotta wonder, is if this 5C is a trial for making more colorful iPhones available later on. Will they stick to the glass and metal but add more colors of the rainbow if this plastic version sells? That is the only niche I can really see the 5C fitting into, people who want a colored iPhone.

great point i was thinking the same thing...

i'm not a fan of the 5C but i'm interested in the reason for all the color options.

Whats' funny is most people lack of understanding. Two Windows 7 computers sitting side by side - one with 4 gigs of ram, one with 6 gigs of ram.. yes - one is better because they run the same software.

Two windows computers: One running Windows Xp, One running Windows 7 - The Windows Xp was smaller then Windows 7 - which means it requires less memory.

Android takes up about 8 GIGS of permanent memory. iOS6 only takes barely 3Gigs.. The Galaxy S4 needs 2gigs of RAM to run Android as smoothly as the iPhone 5( with only 1gig of ram ) which has a much leaner operating system & needs less memory and cpu power to run well.

What makes a smartphone a big deal is it is an internet appliance. Turn off your data and all you have is a phone with a camera. That being said the iPhone has 800k+ apps.. Android has slightly less - but not all Android apps can run well ( or at all ) on all Android phones while all of Apples apps can.

In the end it's the apps that make a smartphone smart and there's nothing an iPhone can't do as well as any other good smartphone.

If we go by how the article puts it, it is almost as if apple is asking Foxconn to make two new iphones for them.

Does anyone know how S voice was discovered on galaxy phones? Oh, thanks to Siri. How did Samsung wallet come into the market?...Thanks to passbook on the iphone. Samsung would still be selling their ugly flip phones if it wasn't for apple iphone. It won't be long before we see a finger print scanner on the next samsung galaxy.

Although hardware specs has advanced a lot, and the iOS itself also brought so many surprises for us, the iPhone 4, which will be dropped down and flushed out from the store, after the release of iPhone 5s and 5c, should be at the zenith of the iPhone series. It has totally redefined the mobile life and pointed out the direction of mobile phone advancement. Salute, St. Jobs!
