Apple and Foursquare talking about sharing local data

Apple and Foursquare are said to be talking about a deal to share local data as a way for Apple to integrate the app with its beleaguered Apple Maps; Apple hopes that it can somehow regain the momentum it lost after a rough start and now has the added problem of seeing Google Maps for iOS get downloaded 10 million times in its first two days...

Apple sure does like sharing your data. This is one reason I chose android. Your data is safe.

Why would people share where they are? Could be useful for a business or for parents wanting to keep tabs on their kids.
