Apple, Samsung CEO-level talks fail to produce any agreements

According to the Korea Times, that CEO-level meeting between Apple and Samsung ordered by California Judge Lucy Koh ended up producing nothing in the way of any agreements that would help both sides reach a settlement over their patent battles...

Whoa. Wait. Is that Samsung saying "hey, dumbass, if you would only allow us we'd pay you for these patents you claim we're infringing on!"?!
I mean, this, despite how ridiculously minute the patent claims are. Absolutely friggin amazing.

APPLE is afraid of Samsung - notice how APPLE is starting to give less work to Samsung as a supplier?

yes the panels and ram are not from them anymore so they basically worth lesser and earn lesser
3. cncrim (Posts: 476; Member since: 15 Aug 2011)
I knew it. No way apple will why should they, and samsung will do the same thing if theyhave upper hand.
4. Droid_X_Doug (Posts: 5583; Member since: 22 Dec 2010)
The only time a settlement discussion produces a settlement is when both parties aren't certain about the outcome and the downside is compelling. Apple feels they have the upper hand. Until they cease to feel they have the upper hand, there won't be any meaninful move to settle the case.

So basically Samsung said we won't stop copying, but we'll pay you if you let us continue to copy your products.
Man if that isn't an admission of guilt and lack of being able to make successful products on their own I don't know what is.

Do you even Read the Topic?
Apple are greedy bastards who wants no opposition. So they try to take Samsung like this.
Do you have your own brain or is in the same crap as Apple?
Think before posting.

I know that taco is a troll, but it does read as:
Apple says that Korean based Samsung copied its designs while Samsung feels that Apple should license its wireless patents.
So, Samsung is not really denying that they are copying...but seriously - touch screen phones with a rectangle shape...and then the HTC issue with how documents are being formatted....really pushing the envelope....
17. gallitoking (Posts: 4684; Member since: 17 May 2011)
I agreed with Taco. finally Samsung admitting guilt.. and want to pay their way out of it... not classy samsung.. now I understand the nonsense from their fans... is thought by Samsung
14. Sniggly (Posts: 6760; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
See, I knew you were going to say that.
And to correct you, it's more like "Hey, I know you think we're copying your s**t. And although we think you're wrong and you're overreacting, we'll gladly pay you money for the stuff you claim we're copying."
The other angle is the question: even if Samsung is implementing design choices patented by Apple, should there be patents on those choices to begin with? Should Apple really have a corner on curved edges and a list of possible apps to open a link? Every customer to whom I've had to explain why the Evo 4G LTE isn't out yet has expressed shock and disgust at the pettiness of the patent involved in the lawsuit that Apple won. None have said "well, HTC shouldn't have used the design then." Not even the Apple product owners.

"Hey, I know you think we're copying your s**t. And although we think you're wrong and you're overreacting, we'll gladly pay you money for the stuff you claim we're copying."
I doubt that's was really said.. why because no ones offers money or settlement if they are not at guilt.. and btw Apple doesn't claim Samsung is copying.. they are certain....

Google offered a settlement to Oracle about a year ago, and they just won that lawsuit.
20. gallitoking (Posts: 4684; Member since: 17 May 2011)
yes but Apple is no Oracle.. and Samsung is no Google.. evidence.. dismissed
21. Sniggly (Posts: 6760; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
But it's still a situation where the party who offered the settlement won the lawsuit. Evidence sustained.
25. gallitoking (Posts: 4684; Member since: 17 May 2011)
this show that you don't know how the law works... Apple is bigger than Oracle.. if little Oracle says Giant Google infringed in patents the judge will not act the same as if it was Giant Apple vs. Samsung whom is smaller than Google.. please Google other articles to find more about this.. even Samsung is admitting guilt when all the fandroids were saying that Apple did not had a case..
27. Sniggly (Posts: 6760; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
I would try to respond to your points but they require more depth to deconstruct than I have time to spare.

"we can either spend 100 million a year in lawyer fees across the globe each year since apple will never stop trying to bully, or we can work out a deal for 10-20 million in liscensing fees. we dont feel that we owe them, but its a hell of a lot cheaper than the lawyers"

Finally someone with logic. No matter how you put it, Taco will disagree with you and still act like a brainwashed sheep.

Where is that judge at??? He needs to preside over Samsung vs Apple.....
32. tedkord (Posts: 4467; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Yeah, they do all the time, because litigation is time consuming and expensive. Most suits are settled, with no admission of guilt, just to move on. It's why patent trolls exist. They don't want to go to court, they want to get a settlement. Apple is a whole new type of patent troll. Their goal isn't money, its to stymie competition, slow it to their pace or slower.
22. Non_Sequitur (Posts: 1111; Member since: 16 Mar 2012)
They aren't even copying. You are so brainwashed, it's incredible.
HEY, DUMBASS. GUESS WHAT? THIS IS WHAT WE'RE ANGRY ABOUT.
SAMSUNG ISN'T COPYING APPLE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Get it through your head. Apple: 'We are suing Samsung because their smartphone is rectangular in shape, like ours.'
Good God, how stupid do you have to be to actually think that Samsung is copying?
29. jmoita2 (Posts: 930; Member since: 23 Dec 2011)
You're starting to sound like Charlie Sheen with this "winning" crap.
34. tedkord (Posts: 4467; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
Where do you see Apple winning? Certainly not in market share. The case hasn't even started. No one is winning yet. The consumer is getting his ass kicked, that's for sure. Apples record in these patent lawsuits us spotty at best.
And, I'm pretty sure either you or Taco (or both) were declaring Oracle winning a few weeks back. How'd that turn out for ya?

It's blatantly obvious that Samsung copies Apple. They go out of their way to Apple right down to the charger and packaging.
33. tedkord (Posts: 4467; Member since: 17 Jun 2009)
It's only obvious to slobbering Apple fanboys. To the rest of the world, its just silly. That's the reason Apple and its cult always need to show pictures of Samsung phones scaled down to iPhone size, and with the app drawer open. If you show the actual phones side by side, as they actually operate (homescreen to homescreen), it becomes blatantly obvious that Apple really is suing over rectangles.
50. jroc74 (Posts: 4720; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
How DARE you try to bring logic and reasoning into this??
Show both with just the home screens and anyone with eyesight can see its not the same phone.
No one ever answered this....iPhone vs. Samsung Android phones - hardware:
iPhone has a mute button.
What exactly are they copying that has Apple so mad? Couple of icons.....and Samsung app drawer looks like iPhone home screen....
Yes...because I have my app drawer open 24/7 I would obviously mistake it for an iPhone.
35. VZWuser76 (Posts: 1286; Member since: 04 Mar 2010)
Do you think it's possible since many of the iphones parts are supplied by samsung that they also manufacture the charger for the iphone?
As far as copying the design, if you try to go for a minimalistic look, it will look like other products doing the same. In that event, you're saying that apple has the right to patent that?
Apple has been going after anyone who is even in the vicinity of copying them. Hell, they brought a lawsuit against the city of New York for a PR design for tourism. The logo had an apple on it. It wasn't bitten, but apparently apple feels they're the only one who can have the image of an apple on their s**t. I kinda hoped that would've gone to court, since prior art was in the Big Apple's favor.
I think the only way you and gk are going to see the dangers of being able to patent a design as similar as the iphone to a samsung phone is if you stop and think about how many products look similar to each other. Cordless phones, HDTVs, laptop & desktop computers, toasters, microwaves, ranges, refrigerators, washers & dryers, home audio equipment, dvd players, etc., etc., etc. How many lawsuits have been brought in these industries? What would happen if they decided to follow apple's suit. For some things, there are only so many different designs that can be used before they interfere with use of them. Apparently the manufacturers in these industries can get by without having to sue each other into oblivion, so why can't apple? As I've said before, if they were only suing for a monetary settlement or licensing, I wouldn't have a problem with that. But when they're suing to block sales that's an entirely different matter. IMO, the only reason to block sales of something is if the products is dangerous, or if the manufacturer fails to compensate the injured party. Anything else is anti-competitive and monopolistic, plain and simple. If every company did this, imagine what the cost of these items would be with only one company supplying them, with no competitors. They could name their price and if the consumer doesn't want to pay it, where else could they go. A monopoly, or even a duopoly, only are good for the companies in them, and a detrement for everyone else.

Its Choi-Gee-sung Vs Tim Cook
Its not about who we support,
Its about who is talking sense there and i think Samsung is the one doing that.

43. frydaexiii (Posts: 1186; Member since: 01 Dec 2011)
Well, when Apple is sueing over a rectangle with a button, it's kinda hard to argue and come to an agreement...
