0. phoneArena posted on 07 Mar 2013, 10:48

Apple has published on its web site, a Supplier Work-Hour Compliance report that tracks the percentage of supplier's workers toiling under 60 hours a week which started with 500,000 workers in January 2012 and reaching 1 million workers a year later; the chart shows that 99% of supplier's factory workers assembling Apple products worked 60 hours or less in January 2013...

Happens when there's less demand for your products.

Demand for Apple is very high.

Apple/foxxcon should he ashamed of themselves for over working these people. Full hours should be 40hr per week. They probably didnt pay them for the over time hours they work for. Cruelty too those people is a crime against humanity

You know Samsung was guilty of the same thing right?

Apple has nothing to do with what goes on with Foxconn.

"Apple has nothing to do with what goes on with Foxconn."

Apple even not manufacture things in Foxconn, right? (sarcasm) :D

If Apple has nothing to do with what goes on Foxconn then why Apple writes articles about work in Foxconn?

And lil Mxyz must have forgotten about apple's little visit to Foxconn a few months back to inquire about the state of the slavery/labour laws.

that happens here in the U.S and is one of the richest countries so of course it happens around the world..

I think that Apple differently understands meaning of overwork, while other may think that it is overwork, Apple may think that it is not overwork.

yeah sure

5. andro. posted on 07 Mar 2013, 11:30 5

Hmmmm I would consider 60 hours a week 'overworked'.

6. asianface posted on 07 Mar 2013, 11:40

I would do the same, but it is a different country so 40 hrs work week doesn't apply to them. However, 60 hour work week is still very tiring if you ever had to work that long... Worst for me was 110 hrs a week during a big project deadline... it was bad...

7. PhoneArenaUser posted on 07 Mar 2013, 11:45 1 1

Also we should not forget that it is not only about hours, it is also about work specific.

8. PhoneArenaUser posted on 07 Mar 2013, 11:53 1 1

For example 1 hour of difficult and laborious work may be harder than 3 hours of not so difficult and laborious work. So it also should be not only about work time but also about work specific.

13. andro. posted on 07 Mar 2013, 12:06 1

Also 1% of the work force could also be quite a considerable number considering the staff levels an turnover of staff.

11. nickm1983 posted on 07 Mar 2013, 12:00 2

1% percent is still too much. Does anyone know a decent smartphone company that employs responsible labor practices though? I bet there isn't one.

60 hours was probably that sweet spot where all the stats fell into place to make the situation look great. Too bad just about everyone knows 60 hours a week is too much and this is still a sad situation that needs to be corrected.
