Apple Maps already showing signs of improvement
0. phoneArena 05 Oct 2012, 18:00 posted on
As we have tried to impress upon our readership a number of times, Apple's new Maps app in iOS is a first try. It may not be a perfect first try, but to compare it to Google Maps, which has had at least 7 years of development is simply unfair. Now, less than one month after the full launch, iOS Maps is already showing signs of improvement...

Yes, revolutionary signs of improvement, its like when you are wearing clothes, take them off, wear clothes which are worse than the previous one, call it "game changing" and a few other typical apple adjectives and then wash your clothes and say, " see I am looking better"
Noobs at Apple.

Man I just had to chime n one more time to say how utterly s____d that post was. Goodness gracious that was bad.

hahaaha it was pretty garbage LOL

Should b a huge improvement after a couple of updates. In time it'll b awesome, it's new from the ground up so give some time.
15. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
is it? i thought they brought it then apple-ized it and claimed it as there's
but facts are they wont be catching up to google or nokia maps anytime soon
17. darkkjedii (Posts: 13802; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
You're rite about that. It will take time to catch goog, and Nokia but apple knows this. They r hard at work in it though, so expect it to b really good in time. Google maps is the standard though. That cannot b denied.
20. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
well they can only improve, if they dont there going backwards.
they only thing i dont get is , is there a need for another map app, no one denies Google and Nokia are excellent so why not integrate them make a deal with either.
23. darkkjedii (Posts: 13802; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
True but Nokia has their own maps, google has their own maps. These r major brands with a huge advantage in mapping. The apple brand can only benefit by having their own map app to further their brand too. Microsoft is doing it too
28. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
well time will tell how successful this is, sadly and even you will admit it apple has let there arrogance take them over. they claimed there maps was the best straight off....... that's where most of the problem lays.
although i cant stand apples way of dealing with competition and business this is about there maps so no need to bring everythin else up in this article.
one thing i will point out is this line
''compare it to Google Maps, which has had at least 7 years of development is simply unfair..
well its not unfair as google maps is one that it has to compete with, time for development doesn't mean it shouldn't be compared to it......this line does seems biased and defensive of apple maps. it has to be compared to its competitors
4. Reverence (Posts: 224; Member since: 16 Jul 2012)
they will..........the more u use them the better they get....but it will take time for them to compete google
49. galokjai (Posts: 34; Member since: 20 Jul 2011)
the more you use your maps the better the working conditions in China? Thanks for being selfish.
8. Insignificant (Posts: 190; Member since: 22 Sep 2012)
iMproving is not that special when you are that iLow from the start.
iPhoneArena, you can keep telling yourselves it is getting "better", but we'll only care when it get's anywhere within 2 years of Google Maps.
11. Hemlocke (unregistered)
Yes, it is obvious Google's Maps are SO much better. When Google's data sets come within a decade of Nokia's, maybe we can all start caring.
12. amiaq (Posts: 503; Member since: 30 Jun 2012)
what ?? is there any expectation it will get worse?? from crap to crappier?? even after they pour so much money? the fact that it FAILED stays.
19. darkkjedii (Posts: 13802; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
Yet another s____p post. C'mon droiders u guys blast/bash//jab apple so much, and insult its user base so much that you're all running out of stuff to say. Some of your insults r getting so s____d that they don't even make me laugh anymore. What do u do now.
50. galokjai (Posts: 34; Member since: 20 Jul 2011)
We don't like Apple because they kill people to make money. Thanks for being selfish.
21. darkkjedii (Posts: 13802; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
U actually basically said that years from now and millions of dollars, and man hrs that it'll actually b worse than at launch. That doesn't even make a lick of sense. I mean c'mon dude at least bash with intelligence. What sense does that make man.
37. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
Yes, and as we all know, a product that begins life as a failure can never ever become a success (you know, like Android...)
54. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
was Android ever as big a fail as this? no
and there are alternatives to apple maps that are leagues ahead making it harder to compete, as even if apple improve there maps google and nokia will too so why didnt apple buy into nokia maps ( didnt say google as we all know apple are petty and dont want anything google on its devices if they can stop it)
and the main reason all this is happening is apples arrogance, what did they say about apple maps when it was released , they said it was the most powerful maps ever (or something along those lines) if they had called it beta there wouldn't be this big issue .
13. devildlm1 (Posts: 71; Member since: 12 Sep 2012)
"It may not be a perfect first try, but to compare it to Google Maps, which has had at least 7 years of development is simply unfair".... Well do you think it was fair for them to claim that it is the most powerful mobile mapping service?
"Coming from the company that simply said, "You're holding it wrong," that's a pretty big shift.".... they don't deserve a pat on the back for doing what they are supposed to do and take responsibility for their own flaws.
22. darkkjedii (Posts: 13802; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
I had google maps in the mytouch 3G back in 08 or 09 and let's jus say it needed work. It got that work and now is about the best there is. For some reason though apple can't have time to fix theirs. Hmmmmm
24. amiaq (Posts: 503; Member since: 30 Jun 2012)
Apple should not be given that opportunity because it always claim its product is the best ever, original idea, magical, revolutionary, perfect (or anything along those words).
Apple also once upon a time belittle android products at our early release, accusing android copying Apple (or anything along those lines).
It's a payback time for me.
25. darkkjedii (Posts: 13802; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)
Well first of all apple doesn't need to b given an opportunity, they create their own. Second of all since its payback time for u, at least pay back with some intelligent posts dude cuz yours r severely lacking it.
26. devildlm1 (Posts: 71; Member since: 12 Sep 2012)
they can have all the time they want but when you claim your product is the best and most powerful right off the bat, you should be prepared to face tough criticism.

OMG right? They're now the "you're shooting it wrong" company. Since, y'know, in addition to holding our phones wrong we've also been taking pictures wrong all this time!
38. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
Not saying they deserve a pat on the back. All I'm saying is that a lot of our readers need some perspective.
32. Droiddoes (unregistered)
That apple dropped the ball (AGAIN) and released a shoddy unfinished product? Yeah, I'm pretty sure we all get that.
34. amiaq (Posts: 503; Member since: 30 Jun 2012)
Oohh I got it! this unintelligent person can only wish. It will never come true. However, I want to remind you of a very intelligent person who "WISHED 7.0 inch tablet DOA" before.
42. rusticguy (Posts: 2828; Member since: 11 Aug 2012)
What Google did in 7 years Apple tried to copy (or steal and give a makeover) in 7 months and FAILED :)
43. MichaelHeller (Posts: 2693; Member since: 26 May 2011)
First of all, Apple has been working on this maps app since 2009 (or at least it has been gathering acquisitions for it since then).
Second, do you actually believe that Apple had any reasonable expectation within the company to get anywhere near the level of Google? I'd say Apple was shooting for "good enough".
44. GoodFella (Posts: 112; Member since: 18 Oct 2011)
I don't buy it Michael. You are being an apologist for Apple in this article. Since 2009, they have been in acquisition of already existing companies??? How long have THOSE said companies been around and in the mapping business?
Apple never ever wants to be "good enough". They want to be the best; hence, they said it was the best mapping experience. Tim Cook had to apologize for the utter failure. If they wanted "good enough", no apology would be needed now, would it?
Look, they failed, admitted it and now they are trying to fix it. Too confident. They brought a knife to a gun fight, and lost. Nothing more, nothing less.
55. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
exactly you put it much better then i could
52. galokjai (Posts: 34; Member since: 20 Jul 2011)
I don't think they spent the time and effort driving around the world like Google. You know why? It costs money. Apple is greedy. They make money and don't spend it.
45. Bhargava (Posts: 2; Member since: 06 Oct 2012)
If it's a first try, and if Apple knew it wasn't going to be good (forget perfect), the least they could do was to Keep Google maps and add Apple maps as an additional app.
46. Nadr1212 (Posts: 741; Member since: 22 Sep 2012)
The pic on da rite wood look great for a "end of the world" movie or something like that
47. pikapowerize (banned) (Posts: 1869; Member since: 03 May 2012)
i actually see some improvements but only few! still hate that there's black and white part!
anyway.. hope apple could make a major revamp!!! make it par to google's map!
51. galokjai (Posts: 34; Member since: 20 Jul 2011)
is that going to make the working conditions better in China. Thanks for being selfish.
57. pikapowerize (banned) (Posts: 1869; Member since: 03 May 2012)
why am i selfish!! only saying what i see.... haters like you are annoying..just saying fat but you still hate? if you hate apple then dont comment to apple post!
i saw improvements coz before my place was all mess up! but now i could see it properly even in 3D and kinda accurate now!!
stop being a fanboy!!! i say what i see!!!
48. Bluesky02 (Posts: 1439; Member since: 05 Dec 2011)
I'm sure the entire Apple Map Department is under lots of pressure fixing those maps.
56. Shino (banned) (Posts: 196; Member since: 23 Jul 2012)
I'm not surprised. This is Apple, after all. Nokia needed more than 10 years to make their maps, Google needed about 5-6 years, Apple did it in about an year and a half, and I can bet my hat, that by the end of the year, their maps and navigation will be one of the best.
58. chaoticrazor (Posts: 2347; Member since: 28 Aug 2012)
so you think by the end of the year apple will be able to do what it took nokia and google years to do...............get a grip apple arent that good and they wont be as good as google or nokia.
your just too much a fanboy, to all you fanboys you will believe apple maps is the best but reality is it wont be

"Just take a look at a G1 running Android 1.5 compared to a Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.1, and think about how that change happened over the course of just 4 years. Now, try to imagine what Apple Maps will look like 4 years from now."
