Anyone planning on buying a smartwatch anytime soon?

0. phoneArena 10 Feb 2014, 10:43 posted on

Smartwatches are definitely a thing now and it looks like they are here to stay. Samsung has one on sale, Sony has released a couple of models already, and even Apple is probably going to join the party before this year is out. Then there's the Qualcomm Toq, the Pebble Steel, the Neptune Pine, the Meta smartwatch, and all the other smart timepieces that are (or will be) fighting for a chunk of the smartwatch market. But really, why have tech companies grown so keen on smartwatches all of a sudden? Is there any reasonable demand for such a product?...

I like watches, fine, mechanical watches. Not only are they better looking than their digital counterparts, which the smart ones smack of, but their movements, fine examples of craftsmanship, veritable micro machines, just mesmerize me. In short, no smart watches for me.

If I were to buy a smart watch now I would only buy the pebble steel because it can somewhat compete with the looks of a real watch. I'll wait to see what they offer down the line though.

Agreed, why spend money on cheap junk with gimmicks vs a nice mechanical watch. I'll buy a smart phone smart TV make my home smart via my own PC and software, but I'll never buy a smart watch either.

I have a few Longine sports watch,s and a Geneve Euro watch, and compared to those cheap plastic watches they are outstanding. I guess I will never see the appeal of a digital watch since the mid 70's when they 1st appeared.

I like the smart watches with ePaper. I love how customizable they are and the abilities that they offer (running mode, view notifications, answer calls (kreyos version)).

My problem is that the price is a bit cost prohibitive for me. I would get the watch for around $60-$80.

I think I'll wait a couple years or so before I buy my first smartwatch. Would love to own one, but not at this moment.

"I will buy a smartwatch only if it has an Apple logo on it"
Really PA? So Google, HTC, Nokia/MS, Samsung, Huawei, Sony are all dead and only Apple can innovate and attract consumers towards their smartwatch?
