Earlier this month, pictures alleged to show the rear shell of the Apple iPad mini were making the rounds despite being taken by Mr. Blurrycam's brother, Mr. Underexposed; now a clearer picture has been discovered showing the shell from the Wi-Fi only unit...

Apple is light years ahead of all marketing experts. They know it doesn't make sense to engineer the hype about something - they let the world do that for them, and it does it more efficient than any campaign imaginable.
It's all about restriction of information in a world where information is drug. When you halt the information flow, the World will become your slave.

On that point I agree with you, i'm not an Apple fanboy. But it is true that they are very good at marketing, presentation and psychology.
They surely have the experience of building the hype.

The experience in marketing doesn't count here since they introduced practically a new way of communication that makes all accumulated knowledge and experiences obsolete.
That is the reason why Apple's competition is having hard and frustrating time trying to defeat Apple's popularity by using conventional marketing strategies.
Classical marketing is based on studying market dynamics, extensive research, polls and interviews, detecting and adapting to trends etc. Apple's strategy dumps most of that and it's based on engineering new rules, creating new "game" instead of playing by the rules in already existent game. They stabilise their rules by purposely distancing themselves from the competetive world. For instance, they are not so intersted in increasing display size to enormous levels, not they enter a race in any kind. This allways keeps them a leaders that others follow. They are not following anyone.
This is all possible because underlying mechanism is a cult engineering - that is, an engineering of religious status of their products. Although they are not legitimate religion nor formally constituted that way, they are using the same mechanism on subconcious level. The appearance of iPhone, for example, has the all characteristics of medieveal icon, the image of God. That is, it's an generic, archetypal image of something more refined and spiritual than shape, size and material of the product. This spirituality is actually the subconcious knowledge of technological laws of today, and it's associated with the symbol of Apple.
Thi is the ground level of Apple's success, and on the surface, they act without conventional marketing campaigns, and they know that restrictive policy will eventually generate more hype.
I'm not sure if that was their actual plan (that marketing experts in Apple are not standard "experienced" economists but theoreticians of culture, aesthetics, history, psychoanalysis and philosophy), but they certainly work that way. This is maybe the effect of charismatic i schizoidal character of Steve Jobs, who appears to have taken some of those ideas, comparable to cult surrounding behaviours of charismatic leaders and dictators of the history. We will see if they will be able to keep that without him.

That's what I've just said in short line
Next time reminds me not to give thump up, I may end up with baggage of fanboism explanation which i'm allergic too.

Yes, what you said was true, but I felt the need to explain some specific circumstances of those instances in case of Apple. Nobody said that you have any fanboism in your comments. Although, It's actually terrible how this fanboy baggage is a result of some sort of terrorism and violence - it's very disturbing. Everyone is in fear, and in the same time terrorism is in everyone.
You are in fear, I see, but you don't have to be. It's "just" a matter of religion.

and lightyears behind the competition.... just now making an alternate 7 inch version of their tablet.
my question... will they still make the iPod touch?
will this be the iPad mini or the iPod jumbo?
Maybe they can make 2 different boxes, each with a different name. Then fanboys will go buy both even though they are the same thing.

I'll be honest, I have never really seen the point of a rear-facing camera on a tablet. I like to take pictures with my phone, but you will never see me pull out a tablet to take a picture. I can possibly see it as useful for times when you don't have your phone with you to snap a photo but I have never found myself in that predicament. Not trying to offend those who have used the rear-facing camera on their tablet, I am just simply saying I don't put any emphasis on buying a tablet based on whether it has a rear-facing camera or even how many megapixels the rear-facing camera is. Although, on a side note, can anyone really admit to it being useful or have they ever taken pictures with their tablet? I am curious to see if I'm the only one who hasn't or whether I'm just out of the loop here.

I saw many young girls take pictures with their iPads wherever they go. I saw it. With my own eyes.

How does that look stupid? "Wow look how dumb those girls are over there taking a picture. Ha ha ive never seen someone do this before. Who takes pictures in public." Really bro? Shut up u sound stupid. Its a goddamn camera for gods sake. It doesnt look dumb at all.

There's a difference between seeing someone take a picture with their iPhone and seeing someone take a picture with an iPad. It's about a 6.2 inch difference.

Regardless of it being useful or not its there. Why not have it? Thats one reason why the nexus tablet wont do as well. Cuz all theyre gonna keep doing is puting it up against the ipad and it just make the nexus look like its missing features. Your whole statement was way off topic
24. Dr.Phil posted on 07 Sep 2012, 21:39 0 0
Actually, it was within topic. The article was about new pictures that confirm a rear-facing camera. Seeing as how you will always want to market every feature on a tablet, I was wondering the marketability behind having a rear-facing camera. How does it appeal to the general population? How is it useful? Those are questions that should be answered whenever putting a feature on a device. I was also merely just sharing my opinion in what I see as the only way it could be useful. Also, I do not think you are correct in saying the Nexus tablet would fail without having a rear-facing camera. The Nexus 7 is expected to reach 8 million sales by the end of this year. I am also sure that offering a 10 inch tablet, even if it is identical to the Nexus 7 with just a larger screen, at a competitive price of around $250-$300 would sell very well in today's market. You are right that when Apple does the comparison between the two tablets, that will be seen as a missing feature. However, consumers will ultimately make the decision as to whether they really NEED a rear-facing camera (also given the fact that this iPad mini is expected to cost $250-$300). Do you honestly think there are that many people that would pay $50-$100 for a rear-facing camera on a tablet? I'm sorry, I just can't see that being a feature that a good percentage of people would be looking for.

If i am getting above spec for $130 with 1 year guaranty why should i put my money elsewhere. I wouldnt even get a good feature phone in that cost. Friend of mine who will be launching this in India later this year has given for preview.
So if Apple can match $130 price i will buy it for sure ... else no as i am not interested to show oiff the "Apple Tattoo" on butt of the device .. i want something that works for a year and then i can buy new one again next year :)
