Another investment house cuts BlackBerry Z10 estimates
0. phoneArena 22 Feb 2013, 11:12 posted on
Just two days after Canaccord Genuity analyst T. Michael Walkley slashed his estimate of the number of BlackBerry Z10 units shipped in the first quarter from 1.75 million to just 300,000, Pacific Crest analysts cut their 2013 estimate of BlackBerry Z10 shipments to retailers from 3 to 4 million units to a much lower range of 1 to 1.5 million phones...

Sad... I am not so sure BB10 is going to live up to the marketing hype in terms of popularity. In terms of features and working well, it looks good to me... but pricing may be an issue here.

Sooooo... Some US based analyst houses are bearish on a NON US company and we're supposed to take what they say at face value and not assume they have some ulterior motive for all of their "fear" reporting? Please. I can guarantee NOT ONE of these ANAL-ysts physically went to a a store and talked to employees. They probably called up the equivalent of a "mom and pop" reseller and took his word as Gospel. Go to sites likewww.seekingalpha.com to read some truth on Blackberry. Not this biased crap.

The problem with BB is.... NO ONE CARE ANYMORE!!!!!
This year (and the year before, and the year before that, ....) people only want AA (ANDROID-APPLE) not BB.
BB can't do instagram, BB can't do lots of things that AA user have.
BB make a mistake of not using android.

That's not true. Plenty of people want BB to succeed. Especially outside of the US.

Where are you From?
I'm From Indonesia (hallo apa kabar).
I must say what YOU said it's absolutely not tue (ngak bener banget).
Let me introduce my self. I'm still studying at UI (masih kuliahan), lots of my friend use BB JUST BECAUSE THEY DON'T REALLY UNDERSTAND SMARTPHONE. Once they play around with Android and educated with what each platform can do, they all change their mind. (kalo dah coba android beneran, siapa yang mau pake bau badan/bb).
So, I wouldn't say that plenty of people want BB to succeed, they want BB to succeed just because they haven't try Android or iPhone yet. Once they try it, they will say GO TO HELL. Why? Because all of the friend that already FREED from BB, HATE BBM. We believe BBM were UN-ethical in real life. because it's forced everyone we knew to use BB. Whereas the alternative such as what's app, is more polite in our society.
Greetings (salam kenal)

What the hell are you talking about, BB were UN-ethical?
its not the device that unethical, its "people" that un-ethical, who force you to use bbm anyway? there is even yahoo messenger, whatsapp, line, any other messenger on BB device, stop being a kid you are already university student for God sake.
i'm also indonesian btw, even i wish bb to succeed :)
(semoga BB sukses)

Greetings. I'm from the United States. And I can assure you, in countries like the UK and further abroad, BB10 is in great demand. Not as great as Android or that crap that Apple puts out, but greater than Windows Phone, an OS that Microsoft has desperately been trying to shove down consumers throats for 10 years to no avail.
Just because you or the group of people you know or are familiar with don't like Blackberry, doesn't make that indicative of an entire country. Research proves otherwise. And BB10 is as far and away from BB7.x as Android is from iOS or Windows Phone. Its far more powerful and far more customizable. Its the closest thing to Android on the market next to the upcoming Sailfish(Meego) and Ubuntu. So respectfully, I have to disagree with you. Do your research. And not just from sites like Phonearena or BGR or Engadget who show preference to anything Apple puts out. Check Blackberry sites like Crackberry or stock market sites like Seeking Alpha. You'll find a far different story there than what's shown on all of these sites that are long on Apple.

If you read the source article from The Guardian you would have seen that one of the analyst houses that slashed their estimates was Canaccord Genuity, a CANADIAN firm, so nationalist-bias hardly enters the picture. At any rate, what motive would a US based company have to misrepresent a Canadian company in the first place? This is 2013, grow up.

US based analyst firms are bearish on anything outside of the US and especially biased on any tech company that isn't Apple or Microsoft. It is 2013. And if you don't know this type of bias exists then YOU'RE the one that needs to grow up. A cursory glance here on Phonearena will show you how much nationalist bias exists. And this is just a cellphone site. So in order to save yourself the embarrassment of looking like a fool, next time actually know what you're talking about.

Also... Cannacord Genuity IS NOT a Canadian based firm. Its an INTERNATIONALLY based firm with offices WORLDWIDE. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE know what you're talking about before you open your mouth.
25. Commentator (Posts: 2473; Member since: 16 Aug 2011)
If you took any time to read further than Canaccord's welcome-page you would have seen that Canaccord was founded and has its largest presence in Canada. Just because a company bills itself as internationally based doesn't mean it isn't from a certain country, because that would literally be impossible. Even Royal Bank of Canada is "internationally based."
A cursory glance at PhoneArena shows nothing because most commenters on this site know nothing about international business, have no motive to NOT be nationally-biased, and are generally far less educated than financial analysts at a major investment house. Again, I ask you, what reason does a major firm with an international presence have to slash estimates of a product? If they do it for petty reasons of national pride, then they look like idiots if and when the product sells well.
Also, my mouth was shut the entire time I was typing (THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU).

Q10 may or june wtf... they should hire me as their CEO
12. MC1123 (Posts: 1248; Member since: 12 Nov 2012)
analyst dont know a thing! and estimates are just estimates, not the real deal! real numbers by these said carrier and BlackBerry themselves could confirm them, and the result of Q1 2013 shipment will settle things up!
but im just glad that BlackBerry is making things possible, its bringing Z10 to all market now!
unlike nokia, 920 is still not available in my country and yet nokia will already announce new set of devices this MWC and we might see new pureview (nokia EOS/Catwalk) so if that Lumia PV will arrive, no one will be interested on 920 in my country because they will wait for that lumia PV!
16. bluescreen (Posts: 154; Member since: 22 Nov 2012)
the 920 was a flop as detailed by att slashing the price of it all the way down to 99cent and it had been out what hardly even 2months?

I'm Indonesia, the country that HAVE the most BB user because internet penetration is still low, thus many of Indonesian were uneducated with what Android can do compared to BB.
AND, the BB era already gone.
Most of the RICH guy/gal already moving on to Android (mostly Samsung Galaxy Note & S) long time ago.
Right now, those that use BB because they don't know about Android because of lack of knowledge. in other world, CHEAP BB, not BB10 user.
So, BB10 will fail in Indonesia...
FAIL BIG TIME....
just the same as Nokia 920...
21. raphz (Posts: 35; Member since: 22 Oct 2012)
I dont understand why you hate BB and nokia so much, even wish them to fail?
24. bluescreen (Posts: 154; Member since: 22 Nov 2012)
i dont think its so much of a matter of everyone hating bb as it is that bb didnt care enough about their customers to continue updating their systems and phones and producing new and innovative features while they had all those corporate accounts to do so with...instead they chose to sit on their asses and do nothing and reap the cash flow from all those big corporate accounts.....then once they saw the mass cancelation of accounts they said oh s**t lets do something different.....its like trying to save a sinking ship by putting wet mud over the holes! no respect for bb

I'm in India and Indians till very recently were very excited about BB10.. i have tons of students in college who were waiting for the BB10.. 2 even brought it from the Black Market for as much as 70k(USD 1300).. but after they got to actually use the product, they sold it back to the black market within a week for 50k(USD 935), bought a Note II and still saved some money..
The BB models that were doing exceptionally well in India were of the Curve series and there's still no announcement from Blackberry of Budget models running BB10 so many are moving to Samsung Galaxy Series (Y and Grand)..
All the college students need in a Blackberry is BBM.. and with the popularity Whatsapp and Wechat most of them are not missing BBM anymore..
So in a matter of about a year.. I dont think im gonna see any BB phones in my university.. which is a huge thing because till about a year back anybody who didnt have a BB in the University was considered a outcast.. Its gonna be the other way round in a years time..
Not that i hate BB.. Just telling what I see.
