Another analyst confirms new iPhone to come with 4" 1136x640 pixels screen and 500 nits brightness
0. phoneArena posted on 06 Jun 2012, 02:30
His analysis why Apple is doing this states that there is user experience to be gained with having a larger display, but 4.3" and above displays seemed the tipping point for Apple when phones become unwieldy and requiring "visibly larger" batteries. The 4" size design with the above specs won as the perfect tradeoff between comfortable one-hand use, which Apple is very fond of, maximum app compatibility, and battery life, notes the analyst...

If the 4" screen rumor is true, I can't help but to wonder who made that decision. Is this Tim Cook listening to the cries for bigger screens or did Steve Jobs come to his senses and included it in that 5 year plan we heard about. Either way it's a good move, but why be frighten by .3 more inches when other manufacturers are making 5"+ screens? How long wil Apple and Microsoft allow Android OEMs to have 100% of those customers? Clearly consumers have shown there is a demand for it, so supply it!
And please, don't call it "The New iPhone"! "The New" distinction is kinda silly seeing as though there will be another new iPhone coming next year.
4. PhoneLuver posted on 06 Jun 2012, 03:10 6
Why are they making it longer? They should be able to fit in a 4' screen into the existing shape. All they have to do is reduce that enormous bezel!
16. Synack posted on 06 Jun 2012, 09:00 4
ITS SO STUPID. What f**king moron decided that making the phone LONGER would solve everyone's problem. Is it so hard to make the damn phone just a little wider and a little longer? God Apple is so stupid.
This phone is going to look retarded like that. It already looks retarded in the pictures.

These are rumors so we really don't know at this point.
34. Leo_MC posted on 06 Jun 2012, 13:05 0
Pitagora tells us that the size of iP can fit even a 4.5" screen.
21. taco50 (banned) posted on 06 Jun 2012, 10:44 0
Bigger isn't necessarily better. It's a personal preference and not a technological advantage. At this point the smaller screen hasn't hurt Apple's sales so I don't know that it's an issue at all.
I think android HAS to do stuff like giant screens to differentiate themselves from Apple since the OS doesn't.
35. wsucoug13 posted on 06 Jun 2012, 13:13 0
the OS doesn't differentiate them from Apple.... yes it does. Their OS is completely different.
2. mas11 posted on 06 Jun 2012, 02:57 8
Why can't apps be optimized for any screen resolution like in Android devices? Seriously I have yet to use an app with two ugly black bars on the sides of the screen. So why should iPhone users have to suffer with them? And iPhone users attack Android for fragmentation.
19. ian132 posted on 06 Jun 2012, 09:31 0
Ya exaclty google made it easy for developers to put in code that detects the screen size automatacally. And your right about the fragmentation thing
22. saiki4116 posted on 06 Jun 2012, 10:44 0
in iphone all the resources use static referencing like put a resource at some pixel, whereas in android to support all screens uses the same box model which is used in CSS.
23. taco50 (banned) posted on 06 Jun 2012, 10:45 0
Huh Apple doesn't have fragmentation all the apps work. I'm sure Apple has a solution in place if the screen dimensions are different.
31. mas11 posted on 06 Jun 2012, 12:29 0
Actually Siri only works on the iPhone 4S, that's fragmentation. It's a lot easier to make sure apps work on 3 devices (because Apple won't update the OG iPhone and the iPhone 3G to iOS 5.1.1) than it is to make sure apps work on hundreds of devices.
32. taco50 (banned) posted on 06 Jun 2012, 12:33 1
Missing one feature isn't nearly the same thing as only 10% of devices running your newest software almost a year later.
The 4 and 3GS have all the other features. It's pretty indisputable that Apple offers great long term support for their devices.
33. mas11 posted on 06 Jun 2012, 12:44 0
Yep Apple does a great job at keeping their devices up to date. Then again it's very easy for them considering that they only have 3 currently supported pones, which were all manufactured by them. On the other hand, Android has hundreds of devices manufactured mainly by 5 companies. That makes updating phones a lot more difficult.
38. Whateverman posted on 06 Jun 2012, 14:02 0
That's not exactly true. There apps I can't download on my OG iPad because I don't have a camera.
Also Apple hasn't allowed Mac users using Snowleapard to use iCloud. Why??? Greed of course! By making Lion required for iCloud usage, those who have Leapard, Snowleapard, or even Tiger have to either upgrade their software, which is a minimum of $30. Hardware upgrades are often necessary as well in order just to run the new software. So there is a lot of fragmentation with Apple that may not be as obvious because of these kinds of situations.

more nonsense from you as usual
43. Whateverman posted on 07 Jun 2012, 00:12 1
Probably sounds like non sense to you because you know nothing about anything tech. You're a wannabe Apple fan who only owns an iPhone, and you have no idea what the requirements are for being in the Apple Ecosystem. Where as I have had to upgrade my RAM and upgrade to Snowleapard just to activate my iPad because ...IT WAS A REQUIREMENT. And now they want to force people to upgrade Lion just to use iCloud.
I tried to dumb it down as much as I could. But if you still dont get it, maybe you should try remedial courses.
44. taco50 (banned) posted on 07 Jun 2012, 01:10 0
Sounds like you should stop buying Apple. Seems like you're really unhappy with their products. You'd have to be dumb to keep buying stuff you don't like.
45. Whateverman posted on 07 Jun 2012, 01:30 0
And that's exactly why I haven't. My OG iPad is possibly my last. But who knows, maybe if Tim Cook can help Apple stop the a$$hole behavior like suing competitors because they can't compete, and start making compelling products again... I may support them, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime soon.
3. iShepherd posted on 06 Jun 2012, 03:04 11
If Apple can deliver 5 rows of icons instead of 4 on the new iphone I will take back all the bad things I said about Apple no longer innovating.
11. VonRondo posted on 06 Jun 2012, 05:04 1
I agree. The phone does not have the same visual appeal with a 4" 16:9 aspect ratio. It could be a big screw up for Apple. Too long and skinny. I hope they stick to 3:2 aspect ratio and go to 4" screen, or even 4.25 would be great.
8. Mitchel posted on 06 Jun 2012, 03:34 7
I agree.. The iPhone 4s' bezel is too large.. The resolution is weird.. 640x1316 WTF? Is that innovation?! lol.. I think they are too worried to decrease the 326 ppi "Retina" display that they all bragging about.. Look how Sony Xperia S display, 4.3 in., 720p resolution with eye popping 342 ppi..
I know it, that's the disadvantage when you don't build your own components.. lol
12. dmckay12 posted on 06 Jun 2012, 05:08 3
I agree. The resolution seems very random. It seems like it will be impossible to properly convert a video. It seems like there is a meeting every year where engineers ask themselves "what is the least we can do to call it a new model?"
24. taco50 (banned) posted on 06 Jun 2012, 10:47 0
No one makes all their own components. Considering the new iPad's display I don't think Apple will have any issue keeping a retina display.
29. AppleConspiracy posted on 06 Jun 2012, 11:27 0
The resolution stated here is a typo: it should be 1136x640 (like in a title) instead 1316x640.
Resolution of 1136x640 makes sense: it's only 176 pixels higher than previous screen (960 px) and with same width (640 px), and that makes:
- 16:9 aspect ratio instead of previously used 3:2
- cca 4" diagonal
- exactly 329 ppi density like in previous Retina display
The only question is how they are gonna solve backward compatibility.
This analyst(s) provided theory that older apps will be shown with black bars on sides.
THIS IS THE KIND OF UN-ELEGANT SOLUTION THAT APPLE WOULD NEVER DO.
It just wastes too much space for nothing, given the fact that they think to extend the size of iPhone in general! This is totally unergonomic!
Instead, I think they will use extra 176 vertical pixels to incorporate virtual home button - like I visualized in my concept render. That way they will use extra pixels in a smarter way when we use older apps, and use widescreen for everything else. And of course, this way the physical dimensions of iPhone could be preserved, with increased screen size and easy one-hand use.

another iFail ??? what i love about android is that no mattter how big or small you screen is, it will fit on ur phone from edge to edge of screen !!! apple cant do that for " The New iPhone " ??? Lame...
14. matrix_neo posted on 06 Jun 2012, 06:56 2
4 inches??!! Copy of original samsung galaxy s, what can you say QinEmpire?! Who's copying now?!
I bet it will be named the new iphone. Why?! New screen size!!! Only screen new, the rest spec android has it.
17. Synack posted on 06 Jun 2012, 09:06 2
everything else the same
All I can think of is the scene in Tron Legacy where they are about to release OS12 and the guy says what's different? CEO: We put a new number on it.
25. taco50 (banned) posted on 06 Jun 2012, 10:48 0
In that case android copied for having a touch screen, web browser and phone application.
26. wassup posted on 06 Jun 2012, 11:00 1
Taco, touch screens existed before the iPhone, web browsers definitely existed before the iPhone, and don't tell me that you're that idiotic to think that apple invented the phone. Using your iDiot logic, didn't apple copy all the preceding phones by making calls and sending texts, also they copied LG prada's design, and copied the SII with Siri, because the SII (which launched before the 4S), had a modified VLINGO, which apple copied to make siri (Double tap home button to launch). I PRESENT TO YOU, iDiot LOGIC. don't make me go down to your level again, it hurts being this stupid, even if for 5 minutes.
28. quryous (banned) posted on 06 Jun 2012, 11:20 1
Actually, it is not a copy of the Galaxy S. It is actually a really blatant copy of the LG Prada, which completely pre-dated the original iphone. Apple, its gonna bite you!
18. cncrim posted on 06 Jun 2012, 09:12 0
Watch it will be 4 inches but will wider too otherwise it will stay 3.5.
27. angelesmec posted on 06 Jun 2012, 11:06 0
More screen and less bezel please!!!! Though I would not buy it anyway but for the sake of iFans..
30. x7black7x posted on 06 Jun 2012, 12:02 0
major fault :
if the iphone 5 will have this type of a display if would be hard for the user to navigate on the phone cause the back button on iphone is somewhat far away on the top left corner and if this design will be used in the final product i will be a massive fail!
36. wsucoug13 posted on 06 Jun 2012, 13:20 0
If apple just makes this phone thinner and longer with iOS6 that will be a HUGE disappointment!!! Apple can't be that dumb. They must have a joker up their sleeve
37. wsucoug13 posted on 06 Jun 2012, 13:24 0
the dual core A5X would be pretty sick though. that thing flies!
39. gallitoking posted on 06 Jun 2012, 17:18 0
references to the LG Prada are so 2007... saying like specs already exist in Android.. also 2007... for those slow people... Android and iOs are different OS.. like China and the US. there is lots of stuff Chine has that the US is barely getting and you don't hear Chinese saying that they had it for quite some time.. its annoying and that's how fandroids sound.. please have class fandroids..
40. matrix_neo posted on 06 Jun 2012, 17:33 0
For those slow eyesheep people, including you galli, you obviously knew android and ios are different ios but still keep on bashing, trolling here in pa, against android. Accept the truth that android already surpasses your beloved iphone, in terms of sales and market shares. Apple is not the company capable of creating best products, there's a lot of other companies also. Sad to say they stop it once they were threatened. Afraid of real competition, right?! Have a class too ok?!
