There is something big brewing in Huawei, and it might be 6.1" big. An entry on Huawei's Chinese website reveals an Ascend Mate phone specs, and it is apparently trying to take on none other but the Galaxy Note II.
The Huawei Ascend Mate is listed with the 6.1" (?!) display of the 1920x1080 Full HD variety, 2 GB of RAM, a 1.8 GHz quad-core chipset of Huawei's own make dubbed K3V3, a generous 4,000 mAh battery to rule them all, everything wrapped up in a 9mm chassis.
Now, Huawei is no stranger to homebrew processors with the quad-core K3V2 in its Ascend D quad/XL flagships, but the K3V3 we are hearing about for the first time, and can only hope it will be a Cortex-A15 endeavor. Jelly Bean is the alleged Android version of choice, with Huawei's own EMUI 1.5 on top.
Well, it is the week of huge mobile displays with Full HD resolution - seeing what HTC did with the J Butterfly, the Oppo Find 5 that leaked in the flesh yesterday, and now that Huawei Ascend Mate goliath, which, however, should be a sight to behold at 6.1". If the buttons are not on-screen, we can smelltrouble brewing on the ergonomics front.
As for price and release date, Huawei execs have reportedly confirmed the work on this phone, but nothing on the availability front, so we wouldn't hold our breath for any Ascend Mate before the MWC expo in the spring.
