That is why US citizens are like puppets = eat everything from completely immoral company like Apple who
1) caused higher prices of eBooks in the whole world
2) patented stupid thing just to obstruct competition
3) deal with Microsoft and Adobe for higher prices in Australia
4) many fines in the world for unfair behaviour

This is Apple, just complete immoral company supported by ??? US citizens.....you deserve that ;-P

The average american consumer isn't very smart. (s)he's just following the trend, without knowing exactly what (s)he wants. If (s)he sees justin beaver using 10 iphones at once, poof! you'll see the average american with 10 iphones at his/her ear.

You guys need to use the word, "Some or Most", because believe it or not, the people in the USA who loves technology and free and fair market, do not own nor will buy anything from a company ( no matter which country it comes from) who's behave this badly like Apple and/or Microsoft.

Might as well say." ALL the Finns loves S-Elop".

Android. The world's most advanced operating system. Also, most used. Open source.

iOS should be relegated to kiosk stands.

android is an open system. their most expensive phone is still way cheaper than the iphone. and you could buy a cheap android phone for just a few bucks. so their being number is not a surprise. what will be surprising if they are not.

And yet, 3 years ago iFans insisted that Android would never overtake iOS in market share.

The constantly moving goalposts...

Actually, we're waiting for Apple to stop acting like a petulant, arrogant child, and to start competing in the market and not the court room. Then, we will have no problem with Apple.

But, regardless, this had nothing to do with constantly moving goalposts. But nice try at changing the subject.

To have success you have to evolve and change goalpost like you say, Great companies have done it, Coca-Cola, Microsoft, Nike etc, why not Apple?

I'm not talking about Apple. I'm talking about Apple cultists, who move the goalposts every time Android kicks one through it.

"Android is vaporware, it will never come." Boom..
"Android will never have more market share than iOS." Boom.
"It's all about Apps. Android will never have all the apps like iOS." Boom.
"No Android OEM will sell more than Apple." Samsung'd.
"No, it's tablets. Android will never have market share in tablets." Coming 2014.

India is barely 3% for Apple. Major players are Samsung, Nokia and RIM controlling 65%+ of market.

Although its good to see the market share of Android continue to impress. However, I believe within those numbers are misleading figures. These are things I would like to see to help define Android.

1. How many companies represent Android market share?
2. What are the percentages of all companies of Android that show an increase/decrease in sales?
2. Lastly, how many of the Android companies provide full upgrade support to latest OS? This doesn't effect the numbers, but shows the lack of support of their devices on timely upgrades.

These are just a few questions that will show where each company who represents/manufacturer's Android stack up against each of the other companies.

Since talk is on OS it's just one company called GOOGLE ... donlt confuse with Android absed handset manufacturers and it really doesn;t matter whether it is 1 or 100 ... in democratic world order it should definitely be more than ONE ... :)

Maybe I'm missing something... How can one device be compared to an operating system. Android is NOT a phone. It is os. IPhone5 is not os.

Welcome to Spin City Victor. Kudos for using publicly available statistics to cheer for your platform of choice. Without context statistics are just a bunch of meaningless numbers.

It appears that you are trying credit the iPhone 5 with a 14% gain in market share. With no other context the pure numbers make it look like your argument is plausible. However when you look at the reports a little closer you soon find out you're comparing Apples to Oranges (no pun intended). So what context did you choose To leave out or possibly not even think to include?

Everyone knows iOS gets a boost the first few weeks a new iPhone is available, at least in the US. The report you're using is comparing the 12 weeks ending Sept 30th 2012 to the 12 weeks ending Oct 2nd 2011. So what's wrong with this comparison? The 2012 data includes 10 days of iPhone 5 availability. The iPhone 4s wasn't even announced until Oct 4th 2011 so the 2011 data includes only iPhone 4 sales. IPhone sales were notably low in Q3 2011 in anticipation of a new iPhone in Q4 2011. The report is essentially comparing data from the point in 2012 where sales will be most skewed in favor of the iPhone to a point in time from 2011 where sales were most skewed away from the iPhone.

Granted you didn't create the report, you just used it as a reference in your article. But not including the additional context just makes it look like you're cheering for Apple. If you want to be considered a legitimate journalist you need to remove this obvious bias from your reporting.

Please correct the title:
most popular "mobile" operating system

I know this is "phone"arena...but still the tile is technically incorrect.

when it comes to PCs, i guess windows has more users than all above combined together!
