Sweet news here. Cue the wars between fanboy factions. I'll join in when possible.

This is only the beginning of Android dominance :)

Let's hope not. Let's hope Android, iOS and WP8 all settle in for about 1/3 of the pie. Anyone who dominates gets lazy, and we'll start seeing incremental updates like Windows for the last 20+ years.

We want competition. I want my smartphone in 2 years to have tech from 10 years from now.

I agree. And since those 3 are the only ones I would even consider using, I hope what you say holds true.

I had hopes for Meego....that seems to be a fading memory. That recent Nokia phone that had it was looking real nice. IMO Nokia shoulda focused on that too..or Android too.

I'll save Taco some time and wear on his CTRL+C and CTRL+P keys.

"These are Android units shipped, not sold. They're sitting on shelves."

"Half of them will be returned once buyer see how laggy and buggy Android is - the PA One X review said so!"

"Samsung copies! It's obvious if you take a picture of a Galaxy S, crunch it down to the size and aspect ratio of an iPhone, then compare the app drawer to iOS homescreen while squinting through a pinhole from 30 yards away."

"Apple still makes more money than Samsung. It's not number of people who choose a platform that decides it's popularity, it's how much profit they make."

"Well, Android has like a hundred phones, so of course they sell more. But that doesn't mean people want choices."

"Android gives their phones away, unlike the 3GS."

Lol! Don't forget the fifty buck iPhone 4. It's no coincidence that the month I sell the most iPhones also happens to be the month of the fifty buck iPhone.

And good for them. It's a smart business move on Apple's part.

Anyone buying that $50 iPhone 4 or free 3GS should be thankful for Android. Without the competition Android is throwing at Apple, they wouldn't exist.

no.. he left you the ability to debate his
"your all just angry fandroids"
"even though i clearly lost my bet with remix, im going to continue to say that I won in hopes that someone believes me"
"clearly, android is only popular because its a carbon copy of iOS"
"apple doesnt copy android"
"iOS never crashes"

and his other gems. :)

Android is technically Linux. Well, a neutered and gift wrapped version of Linux.

"Linux" is just the kernel.

The Dalvik VM + Userspace stuff is that actually makes the Android platform what it is.

Hell, they could have based the whole thing on top of MACH/BSD/WHATEVER and it would have been pretty much the same result.

Wow Meego Harmattan was ahead of Windows haha! By the way during the 1st quarter Meego Harmattan is the representative of Linux. Great Potential of the OS if only Nokia supported The N9 then the 3 legged horse will be Android, IOS and Meego Harmattan. Great performance still born OS Meego Harmattan!

Dam Android is growing fast but can that growth crush Apple and there new iphone soon to come, maybe if apple doesn't come out with something game changing to there phone... I can see Android being the more popular handset and Samsung leading the way.

See....it doesnt need to crush Apple, the iPhone or anyone else. Just be there as another choice for ppl. Thats all.

I agree with what someone posted earlier....there is enough pie for at least 3 mobile OS's to dominate. Its alwasy been that way since I can remember with smartphones: Palm, RIM, Win Mo. Now its Android, iOS and .....[insert whatever mobile OS you think is next here].

Nice growth by Apple. Almost 1 out of every 4 smartphones shipped worldwide is an iPhone.

iPhone 5 on its way shoud increase market share for Apple even more. I'm enjoying androids losses in lawsuits to Apple and Microsoft. That should tighten up some of the garbage they're putting out.

yet Android shipped nearly TRIPLE what iOS shipped.

And the SGS3's presales are higher than the i4s's first weekend total world wide sales with presales.. by double.

awwww. pitty party for taco.

SHIPPED is the key world. Most are sitting in warehouses waiting for clearance fire sales.
