Android has been getting more and more of a viable gaming platform, especially with all the third party controllers being made, combining compatibility and quality, and the hardware growing and becoming ever so powerful. We've got octa-core processors, tons of RAM, tablets with large, 12" screens, and even specialized hardware – such as the OUYA console, or the Nvidia SHIELD.
As far as gaming is concerned – Android devices kind of remind us of what gaming consoles were back in the '90s – a device that plays fairly simple, but sometimes addictive games, that you can share-play with a friend that's come over, or your sibling(s). Now, in mobile gaming, multiplayer is most often achieved with two devices, connected via Bluetooth, but there are some titles out there that allow for some good old-fashioned single-screen rivalry – by either having both parties play in their own half of the display, or by employing hot seat – where players are put in a turn-based match.
Well then – let's check out some of these friendship-destroying titles, shall we?
Much like how air hockey plays out in the real world – Glow Hockey has you control your mallet by keeping and dragging your finger on the street, with the objective to shoot a puck into the enemies goal, while keeping it out of your own. There is a choice of variously themed playing fields and there is neon... lots and lots of neon!
A twitch-based game, the Reactor will present players with a logical or observational puzzle and have them answer a "yes" or "no" question by respectively tapping the screen or doing nothing. The simple premise makes for some fun time-wasting and the game supports up to 4 players. Sounds like the best thing to bust out at the end of a party, when you need everyone to either get a headache for concentrating too long, or get bored and leave.
The tactical platformer of the '90's that spawned (or settled) many sibling wars – Worms 2 is ridiculous, funny, yet rage-inducing. You control a team of 4 worms and your mission is to destroy the opposing team(s) by using bazookas, grenades, exploding sheep (weirdly enough – they are worm-sized sheep), exploding bananas, or using the cruellest weapon of all – just one-finger pushing them off a cliff.
A pretty innovative and hair-pulling take on tactical gaming, this one will allow you to test your and a friend's strategic prowess by pitting you against one another in 5 different multiplayer modes with randomized environment. It's a turn-based strategy, which will require you to hand off the tablet when it's time for your opponent to play, but hey – it's the closest you can get to getting your hardcore strategy fix, when in dire conditions. Have fun, and don't break your tablet!
A funny little hockey game that lets you control a mini-team of 1 player and 1 goalkeeper. The control is done via a single virtual stick, paired with a lone virtual button, assuring lots of clumsy shots, and if things aren't going your way - you can always beat your opponent across the head (in the game!) until they let go of the puck.
