Android (and its apps) - that's the best thing about the Nokia X according to a recent poll

The Nokia X is a very affordable smartphone, and most customers seem to really appreciate the fact that it can run Android applications...

wait a sec, i thought google play services aren't availble for Nokia X ! its not really google android just like kindle fires aren't google androids either! am I missing something?

Nokia X is just using the Android name. Meanwhile it has no regular Google services or apps. In fact even Steven Elop stated that Nokia X is being used to help bring users over to Microsoft's services and apps. Then later on upgrade them to WP. That's what was said on a video. So if you want a regular Android device, then don't buy any nokia X device.

Precisely my point! then why is PA talking about android? why is nokia talking about android? and why are we all talking about android on this topic. It's not a "google" android people! And if it ain't a google android, it might as well be a WP or any other OS for that matter, as it won't have any of the cool things we all have come to love about the OS in the first place!!
For me, it's just a marketing ploy to leech on "Google" Android's goodness! Nokia X being android is getting ridiculous!

you can root it and une duex troi google services !

You just answered your own question with your post.....the Nokia X isnt Google's Android....its just Android. Just like the Kindle and the Nook ( the Nook just recently added the Play Store....but the point still stands it was considered an Android e Reader when it launched)

Microsoft and Nokia are using the Android name. Think about it. Android is expected to sell a billion Android smartphones this year alone (2014). That's before Microsoft and Nokia released the Nokia X line of devices. WP is expected to sell only 40-45 million smart phones for the same time frame in 2014. That isn't even 1/20th of Android. Microsoft's is worried when it comes to those new Android users which won't be using Microsoft apps and services. That's why Microsoft and Nokia released the Nokia X line of devices with only Microsoft's apps and services. Microsoft is truly scared that the majority of Android users would realize that they can get on in life without ANY Microsoft services and apps, that's Microsoft's real fear.

I agree. MS is trying to get back what they lost to the iPhone and Android.
I thought I would never see the day BB devices near the bottom and on the brink of disappearing.... WP might be in the same boat if they dont turn it around.

if it runs Android Apps it's Android. other products run Android open source operating systems. in China Android open source is popular and guess what no google Play store there. I have studied the rooting procedure and the procedure to put Google stuff including Google play store on a Nokia X phone plus keep the Nokia and Microsoft apps if you wish. it's not that hard but the question is how many people will go through the procedure's to do these thing

Many cheap Android phones don't have Google Play services and people still have access to Android apps. There's third party app stores that offer Android apps and you can sideload any Android app including Google Play services.
14. jroc74 (Posts: 6014; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
A fork of Android can still run Android apps....some , maybe most. Can Android apps run on iOS or WP? Run natively with side loading and not installing some emulator?
Go look up the Kindle or the Nook. Read article about it.....its always referenced as an Android device. The Kindle is included in Android tablet market share totals. Go to Walmart, target and see all those low quality Android tablets with no official Google Play Store...they are still Android tablets.
Why is it all of a sudden a problem for the Nokia X is too?
17. jroc74 (Posts: 6014; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
The Nokia X hasnt been added to Wikipedia yet tho....dont worry it will be soon
20. boosook (Posts: 1437; Member since: 19 Nov 2012)
People just don't know it. So many users will buy it and will then discover that they have no gmail, no google maps, no google search, now, drive, plus etc, no integration between the apps and so on. Some users will be able to root it and install the google apps, but the majority will, maybe, switch to Nokia/Microsot services (at least, this is what they're hoping).

Nokia doesn't say that this is android,
In the official page, the OS is NOkia X Platform.
However you can sideload android apps.

I see...interesting. Perception is reality in some cases tho. If enough articles mention it running Android....it wont matter what Nokia calls it.
I wonder why Amazon or Barnes n Noble never did that..... Even tho the OS is called Fire OS on the Kindle.....it says it starts with Android and adds on other features.
Cant tell about the Nook because now it comes with Google Play.

Best of both worlds? Sorry...but I see only one world with a competitor trying to live in it because their 'own' world is too depressing.

Its a sad day for MS, people won't be buying their WP after this because they bought this for Android on Nokia, anyone who buys this thinking they'll have Google services and not having them will then just lose faith in Nokia and likely return it. You can't force people to like your services by sneaky underhanded methods, you have to make it good so they want to use it.

Yoo friend we do not know if Microsoft will keep the Xphones once it takes over Nokia I suspect they will. Please take note that Samsung, HTC and others have sold both Android smart phones and Windows smart phones and are still alive and doing so today. Microsoft will not sell any of the 3 Nokia X phones in the USA or developed rich markets. Microsoft could sell an Nokia distribution Android smart phone based on it's Lumia 920 and make a hell of a lot of money here in the states Folks Microsoft is now a devices and services Corporation to be good at this Microsoft has to sell Products for many different customers and that includes Android customers. the X phones wont be popular in the USA but over seas that is a different story folks

AOSP should be limited to just Open handset alliance and Dev community. Rest of them dont deserve.
12. whatsa (Posts: 7; Member since: 11 Nov 2011)
So you're saying google cannot use it.
Googles version is only available if you kiss googles behind
and get legally locked into their eco-system.
Hence why Samsung did Tizen....
If you really feel that way about open source you should be supporting
Mer / sailfish / tizen ubuntu.
Thats where google stole their stuff from...
So they deserve the same treatment....
And come on Droid fans are more open minded I would expect this from apple devotees but not droidites.
21. Liveitup (Posts: 1798; Member since: 07 Jan 2014)
Droids are the new Apple devotees, WP is the new Droid. Many Android fans are like Apple fans of the 2007-2012 era.
Android is now dominant and even within that community certain OEM's and OS skin takes preference. They don't want to see others come up. They went from being hated on to being haters.

the truth that wp is failing at no one has intrest in it
26. AfterShock (Posts: 3698; Member since: 02 Nov 2012)
Why would droidfans hate on something like your wp?
It doesn't compete on any scale I can think of, droid expect to sell a billion, wp 40-45 million.
Services are a non compete, googles are heavily more desired by the world then wp.
Its open to many OEM, so huge handset choice as well as price point, wp is Nokia pretty much.
Wp is trying to ride droid coat tails, but its so fat an useless, it can't even do that well.
Droid dominant, for many good reasons, its better is the main one.
Wp folk are bitter.
27. AfterShock (Posts: 3698; Member since: 02 Nov 2012)
For the record, I despise the idiotic wp fans.
They ruin the underdog status by claiming victory and its the best at every step.
I look forward to wp growth, but not its shills.
About wp being all that, its not and we simply all know that contrary to shills an them souring the path forward with bs like the ones above my post.
This article must have hurt them..wp phone is hacked to get away from, yup you got it wp.

Bro you nailed it. I stand by you 100%
40. jroc74 (Posts: 6014; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
WP cant be the new Droid....because Android rose towards the top in 2 years.
Its going on 4 for WP.....and its still battling BB for 3rd, 4th place....a distant 3rd, 4th place.
Seriously.....every thing has fans. Watching the NCAA tournament now. Some fans are just more irritating than others. What I will say tho is I will take Fandroids, WP fanatics over iFans anyday.

+Nice, colorful design
+Nokias own apps
-Low-end phone=bad specs overall, processor, display, camera etc.
-Lack of Google Play
-Lack of Google Apps
-UI looks oversimplistic
