0. phoneArena 28 Jan 2013, 09:54 posted on

Strategy Analytics combed through the data for the fourth quarter and found that together, Android and iOS flavored handsets accounted for 92.1% of smartphones shipped around the world which left a miniscule 7.9% for the other platforms to have a shootout over during the last three months of the year; Android was the clear leader with 70.1% of the market...

With Apple as one of the top two marketshare holders at only 22%, it appears other platforms have extreme work to do or face death. World wide adoption of choice platforms has just about peaked and is almost complete.

It was my long hope that WebOS would've prevailed as at least a viable second or third choice if not most adopted. We.can thank Palm and HP for killing off the best mobile platform ever culminated.

LMMFAO. Best platform, ever? Then why is it gone? Why haven't other companies adopted it and kept it alive?

Best platform = Android, and the numbers prove it. Hell, there are numerous products out there that are Android-based and we don't even know it. It's like Java :-)

In my 27 years involvement with the wireless industry, I found WebOS was simply the most unified, smoothest platform developed for mobile use. A creation by John Rubenstein who had his hands in on the Apple software design proved that a well developed OS based on Linux, could remain open source, and also remain very intuitive to use. Unsurpassed notification system and multi-tasking which til now is still unmatched. It's implementation of "Synergy" was a milestone in cloud transfer.

What killed WebOS was how it lacked extensive marketing. It was poorly executed by its conjoining partners and the hardware instituted was horrid. Thus leading to a very small percentage of App developement and loss of interest by consumers. This, however, did not eliminate the award winning, all around design of the OS itself. If HP had developed a well designed hardware design and creative marketing, I have no doubt that WebOS would've succeeded as a strong viable choice.

I dare you to try a WebOS device and then come back and debate my opinion.

I did. I used a TouchPad for a short period, and it didn't win me over. Then I tried an Acer Iconia A100 and fell in love with Honeycomb. I've played with all of the OS's. I have not been able to find one thing I cannot do on an Android. The interaction and functionality are superb.

If I couldn't have Android, I would def use WebOS. The iOS and WP8 operating systems suck.

HP killed all initiative to update WebOS. It purchased the Palm portfolio for Patents and discarded WebOS as an illegitimate child before launching the TouchPad. It didn't do WebOS any favors for future growth. Hence why Android has become the popular kid in school.

I, too love Android. It has simply become the far most universal OS(I use the term loosely) platform in the world for most anyone looking to indulge in mobile computation and leisure enjoyment. Endless apps coupled with unsurpassed handset choices, makes it the modern day champ.

Android is easy to unlock and root, and legal on many phones.
iOS can be Jailbroken too (only because iphone fanboys THINK their phone is versatile)
Win8 is pointless to unlock/root
and Symbian is too annoying to do anything but run their limited apps on.

There's no reason to UNLOCK Win8.
Win8 is a FAILED PRODUCT, microsoft will release Win9 next year.

There's also no point in UNLOCKING symbian now.
Go to gs.statcounter, and see that Symbian have fall from 40%+ to almost non-exist. Even in China that used to have 80% symbian, now only have less than 1%.

Windows 8 is an x86 OS, meant for desktops and laptops. Were you thinking of WP8? It's the fastest growing mobile OS on the planet, and was released just before Q4 results, which is why the market share ratios don't show any impact. Wait for Q4, in 2013, and the results will be dramatically different ;o)

Holly smoke!
That's ten million more than my upper estimate.. and some 15 times more than WP did.
Good luck catching up, Microsoft..

And again you have no freaking idea what you talk about.
We are she!ps for choosing from by second to none the most versatile, rich, adaptable platform?
There is a Droid to suit the needs and budget of most people out there and that makes Android what it is.
And again, you are a complete, and laughably blind hypocrite.
Tell me, what are 90 percent of pc users, by your logic? Are you among them?

I can't imagine..
Think of it. 1 phone with one OS, Apple, gettin all the money (their share), wow impressive.
Android 1 OS,
hundreds of models of phone in (excuse the pun) several different flavors. It's down to 2 and I'm sure we'll come to realize they need each other, to push innovation. Hot blonde or willing brunette?
