Android Market update rolling out now
We already reported that changes were coming to the Android Market. On Wednesday, some models started receiving the updated online applications store which now includes videos for rental and books for purchase along with the usual number of apps and games for you to download. A colorful new UI helps you navigate the Market and downloads are divided into a number of different categories.

Video rentals include a star-based rating system, a synopsis of the plot, cast and crew, a short video preview, reviews and related titles. Different genres like Drama, Action and Adventure, Comedy, Horror and others are listed. Rentals start at $1.99. Book categories include Fiction, Children's, Horror and more and include a description of the book and a free sample. Pricing varies.

The new UI, which can be confusing at first, allows users to see 12 apps or game titles at one time, which might speed up your "window shopping" in the Android Market. Overseas Android owners, be patient as the updated Android Market is heading your way.

For those whose handset has already been updated with the new Android Market, let us know what you think by typing in your comments in the box below.

I have downloaded it from my galaxy tab 10.1 and works fine, just a little flashy though, but no big deal ...

It smells like lawsuit to me.

Android is most definitely play catch up here, but as usual Android users don't care to acknowledge.

But nice UI anyways.

Whatever makes you happy

Just saying. If Apple was in Android's position here, it would be a whole different story. I'm sure even you can agree to that.

When you mean different position on what aspect you referred to? The fans? The acceptance and popularity?

barely reminiscent of the wp7 marketplace. and thats only in the swiping gestures. and even then its a stretch. the design and graphics dont appear like wp7 at all.

Thanks for the comment! Android has that bloc and other lookalike features since 2.1 saw some apps using it before. Google is just showing devs it can be done

finally androids market has cought up to the competition. it looks like its more fun to browse than any other market. i definitely approve of this. apple still has them beat on functionality thanks to backing up apps in itunes and the ability to go in the app store from the iphone and look at your complete purchase history and redownload anything you dont have anymore. but onn the flip side, the single marketplace for apps, movies, and books is something apple should emulate. if only music was inluded in the new android market.

17. protozeloz posted on 28 Jul 2011, 06:32

There are leaks telling there is a music vendor on and probably close to release. And you mean check uninstalled paid apps? They appear At the bottom. But now it finally says not installed

Unexpectedly downloaded on my Nexus S 4G while I was using the Android Market earlier. Makes the UI much nicer abs friendlier. Finally, the Market can compete aesthetically. :)

I just downloaded the latest version of the marketplace off ofwww.4shared.com and its pretty cool. I'd say that it's an improvement over the old ui.
