Android 6.0 starts getting pushed out to the HTC One (M8) Google Play edition
After a slight delay, the HTC One (M8) Google Play edition is starting to receive the update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Back on October 30th, HTC VP of product management Mo Versi, said that there would be a slight delay in sending out the OTA update. He quickly added that the Technical Approval required to push out the next Android build, was just days away from being received.

As a Google Play edition phone, the handset is loaded with stock Android. That means that the model does not carry HTC's Sense UI, and should be near the top of the waiting list to receive Android updates.

Android 6.0 brings Doze to smartphones powered by Google's open source OS. This feature detects when a handset is not being used, and starts shutting down apps that would normally be updating in the background. The result is a big improvement in standby time. Another new feature is Google Now on Tap, which allows Google to give you contextual search results based on what you are looking at on the screen. Other changes include the new individual permissions request for apps, and the addition of native support for fingerprint scanners on the platform.

The Android 6.0 update for the HTC One (M8) Google Play edition weighs in at around 450MB. If you haven't received it yet, don't panic or call the National Guard. The update should be arriving soon. When you do get notification of its arrival, make sure that your battery is charged to at least 50%, and be connected to a Wi-Fi network before downloading and installing the update.

Thanks for the tip
