Android 4.4 factory images for Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 released despite no OTA updates

0. phoneArena 14 Nov 2013, 15:45 posted on

A couple days ago, Google began the rollout of the over-the-air (OTA) update of Android 4.4 KitKat to the Wi-Fi only versions of the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 10. Yesterday, we got the manual update packages for those same devices. But, Google said that the updates for the Nexus 4 and the mobile data enabled Nexus 7s would be "coming soon"...

Well, it's only been a couple weeks. OEM updates take months, if they happen at all.
Still, rollouts should begin on day one.

I may agree, but if we think a bit we realise that we hadn't any official announcement...so delayed from what :) only reference is the Nexus 5: in my country was available from 8 Nov. So one week after its release here

2 weeks isn't acceptable? I think you guys are asking a little too much. Also, it was never delayed, Google gave a set date for the update, so there was nothing to be delayed.

What are you talking about? They're releasing the update the timeframe they said they would, so why are you complaining?

Google should inform people about actual update, and not fooling everyone around =\

Google has earned a black eye in my books for this rollout.

They're having account syncing issues since 4.4, not the software itself, but with other devices through the Account Manager. Its even causing an error on Glass to pop up saying its not correctly synced, even though it is, I've gotten it a few times. All started after nexus 5 4.4 release. They might be trying to solve that before sending these out. Not 100% sure though

Considering the incremental nature of 4.4, this is quite bad... I'd rather that they'd prepare reliable releases over longer time spans. Its not like 4.4 is soooo different from 4.3 that we couldn't wait...

I have been upset with google havinv such delays for my nexus updates... Still I have come to think we were simply spoiled in the past... Guess a couple weeks from first release aint that bad... They do have more and more devices to accomodate every year.... Last year there were only Galaxy nexus and nexus 7,10 and 4 to update... With play store devices and new itterations of nexus devices...

Update to 4.4 (Kit Kat)??? I am scare and debating if I should upgrade to 4.4 or not. Why? Because I tried the new version of Google Maps, Google+, Google Search, Google Play Magazines and Google Earth and they screwed my phone (Nexus 4) so badly that the only way to make it work properly again was by uninstalling all those programs and going back to the old ones.

So I am scare of upgrading to 4.4 and even of buying the new Nexus 5 because I know the vers 4.4 is going to automatically install the latest version of those programs. And the new version of those programs is so screwed that after installing them neither the Navigation (GPS), Maps, and not even the Internet (neither Google or Chrome) was working at all in my Nexus 4. (Everything started to work properly after I went back to the old version of them).

I recommend you to wait a couple days after the OTA, check some forums about the update running in Nexus 4 devices and then make a move. That's what I'm going to do, I don't wanna get an update to make my phone a bug nest.

Not my N7 (12).
Maybe HTC may update their PGE phone before my Nexus 7 or 4.

Seriously. Relax people. The just announced the update. Have some patients. The people at Google work their asses off to get you these updates as fast as they can. It's messed up that every time look at a article about their work it's followed by pages of complaints from ungrateful customers as if their not working as hard as they can. Have some respect. Programming is not a fast or easy job.
