Take it from someone who's done it: if you're keeping your phone stock anyway, wait until the official release. Why? It's a pain in the ass to reverse the update if it has bugs, and reversing the update is the only way to get the official update pushed to your phone.

EXACTLY. The Galaxy Nexus does have some bugs and problems but for the most part its everything I could have asked for. But I am really looking forward to these improvements. However I am not going through the hassle of flashing a rom on my phone.

I beg to differ... It's all pretty simple to do. Always make a back up of your current ROM before flashing something and 9/10 you won't run into any major issues.

If you aren't rooted I agree but if you're rooted you would be crazy to not install this its incredible.

Yea I love my nexus but will appreciate the update for some bug fixes.

Please hurry and bring to the GSM Nexus

It's sad that another DMB fan had to post something so stupid. :(

So far so good. I do see an improvment.

Here is an unofficial changelog

From Android police

Update #1 from Cam: After spending a bit of time with this update, one thing is for sure: it’s stupid fast. The camera launches almost immediately now, even from the lockscreen –an area in which is used to crawl. Everything just seems even more fluid than before. The new radio also seem to be doing some good for signal strength – my phone appears to have jumped from the -120 to -100 dB range up to -90ish. That’s all I’ve found so far, but I’ll make sure to drop in another update if anything major pops up.

Update #2: User kangxi on xda compiled an unofficial list of changes in 4.0.4 compared to 4.0.2 and 4.0.3. Here they are as of right now:

Noticeably Faster

Android OS bug fixed (in battery stats)

Long-pressing on a blank spot on the last page of app tray bug is gone

New Radios. 3G/4G switching MUCH better. Don’t even notice it changing.

Improved signal strength

New Power Menu. New from 4.0.2, familiar to those who have used a stock 4.0.3 rom. Screenshot here

PRIMELA03 Bootloader

Faster boot up time

Auto-brightness Functionality changed. Smooth transition

Holding down camera button now refocuses again

Multitouch issue seems resolved. Screenshot here

Autorotate is faster

Browser performance noticeably improved

Recent apps list opens faster

Miscellaneous camera UI changes

Increased volume

Keyboard fixes

Updated News & Weather app UI

Improved quick controls in browser. New when coming from 4.0.2. Present in 4.0.3. Screenshot here (Update: 02/05)

I thought this update was going to bring social network integration?? Im still waiting to be able to sync facebook profiles with my contact list. Anyone know when thats coming?

13. iamcc posted on 06 Feb 2012, 09:44

Are you just referring to syncing contact photos? If yes, download the app called haxsync.

It's unfortunate that the phone doesn't sync photos on it's own but even when the phones do the pictures come out rather blurry. If you use haxsync it's high resolution.

I am running a custom ROM so my contacts sync pictures anyways but I downloaded haxsync for the improved quality.

It's $.99 but worth it in my opinion.

Thanks iamcc ill try that out

15. remixfa posted on 06 Feb 2012, 10:13

its facebook, not ICS that is taking its time. Facebook needs to update the app to sync properly. im running a 4.0.3 rom with a minor adjustment that allows facebook syncing.

16. iamcc posted on 06 Feb 2012, 11:48

Remix have you tried haxsync? The picture quality is incredible... Also what ROM are you using? I was die hard AOKP until this 4.0.4 came out.

17. remixfa posted on 06 Feb 2012, 12:21

im using Passion on my SGS1. i kid you not that my single core phone runs better than my honeycomb tegra2 tablet. the difference great coding makes. I am dying for someone to port ICS to my G-Slate. Fat chance, but i can still hope :)

18. iamcc posted on 06 Feb 2012, 12:57

That doesn't surprise me. When I put ICS on my GT10.1 it was absolutely mind blowing how much faster it was...

21. Dmann posted on 06 Feb 2012, 16:58

Hi, Iamcc. Was there such a difference with Task's Rom or with stock rom only? Would the pros of an early ICS build overcome the bugs enough to justify an early adoption?

22. iamcc posted on 06 Feb 2012, 17:49

I'm assuming you're referring to the GT10.1 and I love tasks ROM for 3.2 but for ICS I'm on Romans milestone 3 and its fantastic.
