Analyst wants a 5" "iPhablet" by year's end

0. phoneArena posted on 05 Feb 2013, 14:02

This is the pinnacle of what it means to be an analyst in the tech industry. At some point, you can stop bothering with silly predictions based on reasonable expectations or even inside source rumors. At some point, just say what you want to see and call it a prediction. At least, that seems to be what Barclays Capital‘s Ben Reitzes is doing in saying that he wants to see a 5" iPhablet by the year's end...

The anal-lysts are saying that the preorders are over 5 million in the first minute for this device that can fit anything.

Look at these chickens changing their wings. just a few days ago they criticized others for too big screen.
Apple does things that just makes u want to b***ch slap them.
itunes, limited ios, proprietary "lightening" port(which isnt even usb 3.0) and now entering zone which they criticized before.

13. fanboysrdumb posted on 05 Feb 2013, 15:06 1 7

going to make fandroids cry about something else since the screen is bigger lol still ofcourse the ui is horrid non the less.

32. imsickwithsmartphone posted on 05 Feb 2013, 20:18 2

yeah, they can make 5 inch phone by making the phone longer or taller whatsoever...XD

36. HDShatter posted on 05 Feb 2013, 21:50 3

It won't be a phablet it will be the iremote. With the same width of the iphone screen but with 5" of screen it is sure to be the best touchscreen remote ever.

2. lubba posted on 05 Feb 2013, 14:08 18

Anal-lysts are making demands too now? WTF! Who are these anals?

15. fanboysrdumb posted on 05 Feb 2013, 15:07 1

these are the big dogs that pull plugs and you go on unemployement. they sit on wall street and call shots while you like an ant get crushed.

31. neutralguy posted on 05 Feb 2013, 20:04

lol, analysts are not the "big boss". They're mere analysts. They just predict/forecast what might happen after few years/months.

30. i.wish.he.still.here posted on 05 Feb 2013, 18:44 4

They just a bunch off ass hole that don't care about apple at all. They just want apple share to go down and up so they can get lots of profit by doing nothing.

3. MrWilli5 posted on 05 Feb 2013, 14:13 4

If analyst is so anxious to get, a large screen phone, why can't just choose the android?

29. i.wish.he.still.here posted on 05 Feb 2013, 18:43 4

The word read:
"Apple, if you're not going to release the 5" phablet, your share gonna fall bellow US$ 200."

5. Android4u posted on 05 Feb 2013, 14:17 11 1

Sure, it'l be iPhone 6. AKA iPad mini nano. Or is it iPad mini pro? Perhaps iPhone pro?

And you still won't be able to send documents via e-mail in 2013...

27. Lucas777 posted on 05 Feb 2013, 18:27 2

pages > edit > select document > email

please sample an iPhone before you criticize

41. ilia1986 posted on 06 Feb 2013, 00:34 2

Oh so you need a 10$ app just to send a document via e-mail.

What if I want to send an MP3 file to someone? Do I need a 10$ app for that too? LOL.

46. Lucas777 posted on 14 Feb 2013, 18:34

whatever app you are in has functionality to send an email...

8. InspectorGadget80 posted on 05 Feb 2013, 14:24 2 4

Lmao. Thise analyst are stupid. Apple will never release a 5"phone phablet. They might as well buy the xperia z which is 5"phone droid dna or upcoming 5"phone m7 & gs 4. It will be another year till apple release their own iphablet and their so behind technology mobile. 2013 is the year for 5"phone phones

10. andro. posted on 05 Feb 2013, 14:45 4 1

Isn't the ipad and ipad mini already phablet versions of the iphone,or is that the ipod should i say?1 But then the ipad is the ipod touch xl,apple gets its ifans all confused so they better buy them all. All apple need to know about apple devices is 'ipaid'

25. InspectorGadget80 posted on 05 Feb 2013, 17:44

they don't have cellular call radios in them. only to brows on their web

11. Ubi2447 posted on 05 Feb 2013, 14:48

19. hepresearch (unregistered) posted on 05 Feb 2013, 15:39 3 2

Fits the trend...

4" is becoming the standard for compact smartphones.
5" is becoming the standard for full-size smartphones.
6" may become the new standard for 'phablets'.
7" is the standard for small tablets.
8" to 9" is the squish-room for mid-size tablets.
10" is the standard for large tablets.

Anything 3.5" and below seems to be 'sub-compact' among mobile phones these days.

So, the 'iPhone 5S' fits the 4" compact smartphone group. The 'iPhone Math' could be closer to 6" than to 5", filling the 'phablet' slot. The new iPad mini is in the mid-size tablet group. The new iPad is a full-on large tablet.

Google's Nexus products are in similar fashion. The Nexus 4 is in between 4" and 5", somewhere between compact and full-size for a smartphone. The Nexus 7 is the small tablet, and the Nexus 10 is the large tablet.

Samsung's new Galaxy S IV is supposedly sporting a very-nearly-5" screen, and is thus a full-size smartphone, and I suspect that a new Samsung Note III would be much closer to 6" to keep with the new 'phablet' trend.

If Apple made a smaller, less expensive low-end or prepaid version of the iPhone, as some have purported is indeed the case, then I would suspect that it would go to the sub-compact segment... back to a 3.5" screen, or maybe slightly smaller. That would sell like crazy if it was cheap enough for the 'casual' user, or the not-so-affluent 'social' user, to afford.

20. Jeradiah3 posted on 05 Feb 2013, 15:55

This bit of news isnt surprising to me. Apple KNEW that they had to cut into the "Phablet" era that we're into right now. The key is whether or not Apple can compete with Samsung as far as specs are concerned. I like the Note II because of specs, design, and features (Like the S-Pen)

If Apple can compete with Samsung, then they'll be relevant again

21. faisolbauuz posted on 05 Feb 2013, 16:25 5

Lol i remember when steve jobs said 3.5 inch is perfect size for a phone and make iphone 5 with 4inch screen jobs said that 9.7 inch is perfect size for tablet and says 7 incher tablet was bad and yet they makes and ipad mini

28. i.wish.he.still.here posted on 05 Feb 2013, 18:42 6

I really wish SJ still alive, so he can take the insult personally.
For apple going 4.2" is legitimating that Galaxy S were right
For apple going 4.5" is legitimating that Galaxy S2 were right
For apple going 4.7" is legitimating that Galaxy S3 were right
For apple going 5" is legitimating that Galaxy Note were right
For apple going 5.5" is legitimating that Galaxy Note 2 were right

in the end....
it show apple is not God, apple is (under)dog

37. HDShatter posted on 05 Feb 2013, 22:13 4

Apple: 7" tablets are terrible, ipad mini announcement. Hypocrites.

43. faisolbauuz posted on 06 Feb 2013, 01:28 2

24. lubba posted on 05 Feb 2013, 17:40 1 3

We can say anything about the iPhone, good or bad. At the end of the day, it remains a cult product. It has a huge following. Its synonymous with high status and retains high value. With that said, you can build a super phone that'll make you look 10-15 years youngers. If it doesn't have an Apple logo on it, its nothing. Its human nature to want or be like someone else rather than themselves. But of course there are those that simply like those OS itself.

33. 9thWonderful posted on 05 Feb 2013, 20:54

Not crazy about iOS but Android OS isn't amazing either. People glorify OS's a little too much. Use what you like & keep your nose outta what someone else likes. It's about choice people, not about singularity. Apple laughs all the way to the bank b/c of the adoption of their simple OS as well as Google laughing all the way to the bank b/c they make people believe specs are where it's at. Newsflash: if you constantly engage in petty arguments about which OS is the best then you, my friend, are a blind follower regardless of whatever OS you use.

35. BattleBrat posted on 05 Feb 2013, 21:18 1

Hook up a RAZR to a TV and experience webtop mode. Look up an article on the floating browser while typing a document using Quick Office (both on the screen at the same time) , WHILE listening to slacker radio, and keeping a draft email open in Gmail telling your friend youve finished the paper. DO THAT then come tell me android isn't awesome. What can you do in iOS? pretty much have one thing open at a time, every time switch back to an app it relaunches, and that is on an iPad 4 VS. a 15 month old Android phone ( I got my RAZR 11/10/11, day before released in stores) that isnt even running the latest version of android. ANDROID IS EVERY BIT AS AWESOME AS WE CLAIM, I cant believe I dropped $700 on this jumbo sized iPod touch! I havent even started using my Xperia Tablet S for multi tasking yet! I put a Gelaskin on it and it wont fit in the keyboard case Sony makes for it, so I'm waiting for the Sony Leather folio...

40. 9thWonderful posted on 06 Feb 2013, 00:09 1

i've hooked up my Android to a TV & it was something that i don't need to do ever again, not b/c it was bad just b/c i don't have a reason to do it. i already stream netflix thru an alternative source, i don't use adownloader, i'd rather type papers on my laptop & my tablet serves my music/browsing purposes. doing all those functions at once, i have no use for (at once). so no, it's not as awesome as you claim. it holds no place, no value, no wow...probably b/c i don't get excited about things like that. its just a piece of electronics. now if we were talking MW3 multiplayer then i might be excited. so again, i say, Android is not that amazing neither is any other OS.

42. BattleBrat posted on 06 Feb 2013, 00:36 1

Would you settle for Modern combat 3 and a bluetooth controller?, And I don't carry a laptop anymore, setup Windows 7 voice control on a cheap windows 7 tablet (Archos 9 PC tablet) an Etymotic ETY BLU 2 headset, and I talk my documents out MUCH FASTER! Oh, and I forgot to mention, due to Googles EPIC speech to text feature (the little microphone on the keyboard) I can do something similar on my RAZR/Xperia tablet S, although I cannot control it like I can the PC tablet. I'm getting the Surface Pro 128gb, and I like Voice control SO much I'm getting Dragon Dictate for it, keyboards are obsolete, Oh and compared to iOS Android is amazing

34. taz89 posted on 05 Feb 2013, 21:03 4

If Apple releases a 4.5"-5.0" iPhone sometime in 2013, not even fruit fans will deny Apple is just catching up as everything the company has been doing in the last two years. Flagship Android smartphones have entered a higher league: the almost flawless Jelly Bean (Key Lime Pie around the corner) with all its personalization capabilities, reasonable prices (Nexus line), use of premium materials in some models, Retina Display killers, Google Play on par with the App Store, Google Services integration, innovating features like S Beam and Smart Stay, real multitasking, real productivity. Apple has homework to do.

44. spiderpig2894 posted on 06 Feb 2013, 02:10 2

There was a time where Apple fans said "We do not need screens bigger than 3.5" because it makes big screen users looks like they are bringing TVs! iPhone screen is perfect!"

Then now, they say "OMG! I love iPhone5's 4" screen! It is so revolutionary!"

psshh.
