Analyst accuses Samsung of not wanting Windows Phone success
0. phoneArena 13 Mar 2013, 15:57 posted on
Unlike the Android ecosystem (and the overall smartphone ecosystem around the world), Samsung is not doing all that well with Windows Phone. Windows Phone has been dominated by Nokia, which isn't much of a surprise given the partnership between Nokia and Microsoft. But, an analyst is now saying that Samsung actually isn't doing well with Windows Phone because the company doesn't want to see the platform succeed...

why compete with the best manufacturer of the world that are comming back? when you are the king of the plastic bad quality devices?
samsung will gona make cheap plastic devices all the time that they can, in the future when they get tired of stealing the money of all the fandroids that they sold super cheaps devices for 700$ they gona compete with nokia in windows phone... not now...

Anyone who has taken a business course in college knows that bubbles exist, apple going through theirs right now, even MS with windows. No one can be on top forever, android will eventually collapse, maybe not in terms of blackberry, but their stocks will drop and people will start to question where's the innovation (see apple bashing all over phonearena). The point being, why shouldn't Samsung support multiple platforms, it only helps to be safe. Nokia never prepared and they fell from the top spot, so did blackberry.
Honestly, the only reason I see Samsung not wanting to support WP is the license fees. Why eat your profits from a free open source OS where nearly every dime goes back to you, or pay a license then hope sales are well. Honestly if Samsung and Nokia both support WP and actually compete it benefits WP as Samsung has that voice now to bring people to a platform, which is what they might be hoping for with Tizen.
MD needs to either stop license fees, go open source with WP or at least give oems the ability to tweak the OS for their phones as long as their willing to provide updates and assure proper functionality in return. At least that's my take on things, right or wrong its my opinion.

In answer to your question, the reason for not allowing individual vendors to mess with WP code is the same reason they don't allow them to mess with the desktop operating system. They need conformity, since allowing customization of the OS would introduce instability, as well as insecurity. The biggest weakness of Android is that it has ZERO security, and permits identity information and financial data to be easily compromised or stolen. Microsoft is able to offer a higher level of security, and speed too, but only if it keeps close tabs on it's OS, and prevents needless fragmentation.
Samsung obviously does not want to see Nokia return to prosperity and success. That would mean competition for themselves, and they will do everything possible to prevent a successful comeback for the company. Samsung also represents a big threat to Apple, and it might be in the best interest of Microsoft and Apple to take aim against Samsung and Google, and prevent either company from marketing hardware and/or software for either PC's and MAC's. They could also launch more aggressive lawsuits, in syncronization, and try to bankrupt the lesser Android OEM's. Only time will tell the outcome of such fights, but I am certain we have not seen the last of the patent disputes...

I said this before.....why would Samsung care about Nokia succeeding with WP?
How does Samsung WP's not selling well have to do with Nokia?
Isnt WP supposed to be about Microsoft?
Android has....zero....... security? Try fanboying a lil less next time....

I would never say no security but its not great...but that goes with the open platform... Can't have it all right? All platforms have weak spots

I thought Sammy is only making WP to keep MS from suing them license fees for using android.

Nah... Samsung still pays royalties for MS patents.
41. Whateverman (Posts: 3066; Member since: 17 May 2009)
No, I think MS is the problem. I get that they wanted to boost Nokia, seeing as though they have a mole in place as CEO, but paying them to use WP was a mistake. That may have been a slap in the face to other OEMs. I think if they start repairing the relationships with other OEMs, they will succeed, but all the exclusivities and favoritism while WP was still in its infancy was a big mistake.

samsung has success on android....why bother to join two failure,MS and NOKIA...it will be like Fail + Fail = Fail...samsung doesn't wanna add to this formula.
49. UrbanPhantom (Posts: 910; Member since: 30 Oct 2012)
Add your own life to that mix, and you'd have fail+fail+fail+fail! :oP

Okay- I am a Samsung Focus S user, so here is my "they never walked on the Moon, and the Earth is still flat" gossip thought:
-Sammy still has to pay royalties to MS for their patents that Android uses, but made a deal to have them a whole ton less if they produced WP devices. From the number of Androids they sell, how much more profit does even 5$ per handset less to MS put in their pockets? Tons and tons. So if their WP's break even, it is all good.
-Sammy hasTizen devices coming out, and that will be an OS they have a vested interest in. Yes, I am betting that Sammy is way more interested in the long term success of that.
-Sammy is currently putting their Moles into MS HQ and bugging Nokia so they can trace out their movements, kidnap their significant others, and hold them for ransom to force WP to close shop. I think they have just hired hitmen to take out every HTC employee, wiping out their top Android competitor AND another serious WP maker all in one swoop.
Okay, maybe just the first two. But without the last one, there ain't no movie rights to sell.

"Sammy still has to pay royalties to MS for their patents that Android uses, but made a deal to have them a whole ton less if they produced WP devices."
I think many ppl forgot about that. I have a feeling HTC WP isnt selling well too. And they might not care too. I have a feeling Samsung and probably HTC did WP's just to please MS....and didnt care if they succeeded of failed.
Still amazing that Motorola basically said F U to Microsoft....lol. They were in the red when WP was preparing to launch, and they are barely hanging on in the mobile dept. Still no Motorola WP tho. Gotta give them credit to sticking to their guns.
104. UrbanPhantom (Posts: 910; Member since: 30 Oct 2012)
Why does Samsung have to pay Microsoft? Oh wait, did they steal from them as well as Apple? Man o' man, Sammy is the king of thieving me thinks...
The only thing not selling well is your Android fanboy attitude and utterly baseless claims. WP8 is the fastest growing OS in the world right now, and what bothers Android fans is that they can't do anything to prevent Microsoft and Nokia from stealing market-share.
Motorola Mobility is irrelevant, and the company was purchased by Google for patents only. What remains of them is being torn apart now, and there are job massive layoffs. Some rescue ;o)
126. jroc74 (Posts: 3458; Member since: 30 Dec 2010)
Have a fanboy battle with an actual fanboy. Its useless with a non fanboy, k? Case in point....I stopped reading at steal.

WP7.8.9 is all a fail failing and is dieing dead.
Wp. Has no Apps and games.
Wp are the last to get apps while ios and Android receiver's are utmost. Look at instagram they have to wait till May.
There are no highend games support till 1 month ago.
WP articles are always getting bashed trashed and Trolled. Its the most hated disliked platform.
WP is a iOs wannabe. Copycat.
In GsmArena the amount of hate and full of Trolls.
Nokia is a dying company and is dead.

The fact that I stole your personal data by hacking your insecure Android device is beside the point...
If you hate it so much, then why are you here yapping about something you claim to be inconsequential? I think You're full of 3hit, mr 666.

Now Google is stealing the idea of unifying their OS. Come on! Stop it Google. Form your own ideas. I sense fear.

Those analyst are a bunch of DOUCHE BAGS. Samsung says they won't be supporting WINDOWS OS any more cause there's not enough demands for it. if their are demands for it they will make more hardware. look at SONY & MOTOROLA their not making any WINDOWS mobile phones right now focusing on Android OS which is their money making dept. Stop being a mad fanboy douche bag analyst
105. papss (Posts: 2182; Member since: 03 Sep 2012)
Agreed with that reason. Every company is motivated by money so with more people going to WP it would bring more vendors. Sony might be the exception since m$ and Sony are competing in another very important area
106. UrbanPhantom (Posts: 910; Member since: 30 Oct 2012)
Samsung is too busy stealing from Microsoft and Apple to bother making quality hardware for WP8. Perhaps it's time Microsoft and Apple stopped supporting Samsung device used for both PC and MAC...
102. Dunknown (Posts: 78; Member since: 23 Jul 2012)
I'm not sure why so many people admire the complicated Android system. From my opinion Samsung could not beat Nokia in terms of the Windows Phone OS. If Microsoft is designing their own phone, this will sure allow Nokia to take a drastic move towards android. With Nokia in the Android os, it will sure win back its crown. This year and last year as well as the coming years, I realised that Nokia has been applying all the researched stuff on to their phone. I agree to an article that Nokia is the most Innovative Phone, second place comes under Apple while third is Blackberry, unfortunately Samsung came under the fourth place. Really hope Nokia could still gain back its crown. Nokia really the best. Samsung doesn't fit for those who are rough.

Microsoft want WP to be successfully they have to do a lot more A & P. Can't depend on their partner like Samsung.
Samsung pump loads of revenue into their Android Phone A & P as Google shares their 10% Ads income with Samsung. Microsoft might want to go the same. No companies in the right mind want another mega size 'Apple' as competition.
121. supersammyfans (Posts: 25; Member since: 24 Nov 2012)
Nah, the useless WP is dead before they release (not to mention the R.I.P. BB10 are dead by now too), only their owner the M$hit and their brainless partner like the failure Nokia and HTC still continue to help them develop this $hit only, Sammy know it is failure that why they abolish them
123. NateAdam8 (Posts: 119; Member since: 17 Feb 2012)
Samsung is more focused on the Tizen OS so they can have something to get them out of that loop they're stuck in called Android, Yes it's a good OS but every company that makes Android has FanFags out there saying it's the best Android Maker in the world and If Samsung is as Great of a Smartphone Maker as you FanFags say then why don't they just make a Windows Phone Device that'll finish killing Nokia off the world and show people they are as Great as people think they are cause if not just STFU and go play with your f**kING ANDROIDS and stop saying crap like WP is dead cause they keep saying if Apple doesn't change the UI of the iPhone it'll fail like Symbian but look and the iPhone selling like food in America so STFU and don't say crap when you don't know who's buying Android, iPhone, WP or even Blackberry just cause you like Samsung+Android doesn't mean everybody else does and I know at least 7 Samsung FanFags who wanted to see the Samsung+WP cause they want Nokia to get beat at there Game and Disappear Forever and stay gone, So if Samsung is so Great they should prove with a WP to beat them all but if not stay with Android cause it easy to SELL.

Android is the cheap way to go for OEM and for carriers. iPhone has an almost fanatical loyal base of users and it is far less likely that most would bail to another platform.
Android, on the other hand, has a less robust, more fractured base of users. They are more tied to a carrier than OEM. Android phones are a dime a dozen on many carriers. You should see the rows of them here in Japan from Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp, Fujitsu, HTC....list as long as your arm. Perhaps on carriers in other countries, it is different.
So the last thing that Samsung wants is a UI that cuts into their softer fan base. To be honest, I think they don't give their loyal "Samsung" customers the benefit of the doubt, and that includes a lot of very satisfied Windows Phone users. I also question the knee-jerk reaction of the media to this story.
However, actions often speak louder than words. We all know Samsung is cooking up their own UI to help keep those loyal Samsung users. They will keep their dominance in the Android market, but we also know their support for Windows 8 and Windows Phone is tenuous at best. They were given the priority to introduce their Windows based tablets and their Windows Phone even ahead of Nokia and they squandered that chance. They had the pole position for holiday buying and they chose to present vapor hardware, not even available.
And now they are pulling their RT tablets. And has anyone seen hide nor hair of the 32GB Ativ S? Other than "Pre-order" status, again....vaporware.

Windows Phone has been dominated by Nokia, then Android will be dominated by Samsung.
143. techspace (Posts: 376; Member since: 03 Sep 2012)
samsung is sabotaging wp because its a platform that is dominated by nokia and it makes sense because as long as people think of android, they will think of samsung, but when they think of wp, they think about nokia, not samsung
nokia and ms are allies....they are making devices that could compete with samsung's galaxy series smartphones, why would samsung promote wp?
they will make ativ smartphones but that doesn't mean that they love wp
