This is based on an analyst's perspective. It may not be an actual representation of the real market scenario.

As an iPhone user primarily, I must say the the gs3 is a fantastic device and should b a strong seller even with the equally fantastic ip5. People should also understand that the galaxy doesn't really appeal to the iOS sector, just as the iPhone doesn't really appeal to the android sector. The galaxy is gonna sell strong due to the strong fan base, just as the iPhone is gonna sell strong due to the strong fan base. Both phones will steal a bit of each others fan base, and that's just how it goes. They r both the best phones on the market and u can't go wrong either way.

darkjedii, they use the exact same method to determine how many IPhones sold or think they sold. For the IPhones it mostly determine by the resalers order not actual sold to comsumers. I have not once go to any stores and find out IPhones are out of stock.

Signs that maybe Apple doesn't have it anymore and Samsung's got it all :)

Well apple still has it, but Samsung is an awesome company too. Apples doing just fine, and so is Sammy. The mobile market is very diverse...lots to choose from. Me myself, I'm big on android and iOS and currently own the ip5 and Htc one x. I'm really liking the note 2 though. I mite snag one if the size is manageable. Due to my job the one handed operation thing is really important.

Mxy...

It doesnt really matter at this point. The iPhone (insert number here) isnt gonna kill off Android anymore than the next Android phone is gonna kill off the iPhone.

The market still says as a whole Android has a huge lead and a huge market share. It cant be too hard to imagine that one of the latest Android phones is part of the reason. The Galaxy S line historically has been a big seller.

Well said bro. People need to understand that at this stage in tech there r more killers. The iPhone brand is safe and thriving, the galaxy brand is safe and thriving. The phones the need to worry r feature phones as more people move to smart phones, namely iPhone galaxy, and Htc.

AppleRoyally says: The device is only a small part of the whole. The OS and the app are much bigger part of the user experience. iOs the iPhone5 is much better OS than DROID hands down. i've programmed in both andhave use both phones. There are far more iOs only quality apps! Also the intergration of iPhone in the enterprize is becoming the standard one device vs dozens of Android device. DROID will never become an enterprise OS.

Android is more "flexible" OS than iOS also Android is Open Source and you still talking such things about programing, think twice again!

Also have you ever heard about Google ADK and Arduino?
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/connectivity/usb/adk.html

iOS can't give such opportunity!

And such thigs are very important because such things gives ability for people to create and innovate and it is very important! A lot of innovations can be made using this which will help in our live! I'm even not talking about enterprise opportunities...

True that!! Note II makes the S3 look like last years model. The iPhone 5 is already below these 2 phones and we still have a bunch of phones coming out this year. The iPhone 5 is fast and that's it. The screen size is still not enough, expensive proprietary cables, outdated iOS and a CEO that does not know how to innovate.

note 2 is an awesome device..... just read the awesome review at gsmarena as well on this site...... eagerly waiting for the beast!!! but i doubt it is gonna beat s3 in terms of sales (i wished it would) just coz of its size which does not cater to everyone..... but s3 rules and dont think its gonna be affected by the optimus G or the htc beast..... plain and simple coz sammy understands the pulse of the market and knows what to throw at them....

2012 isn't over yet, and "of the year" doesn't mean sales numbers, otherwise toyota camrys and Ford F-150s would always win "of the year" car and truck competitions.

GS3 is a great device, but, for me, the only phones I have eyes for this year are the Lumia 920 and 808 PureView

That's right, Apple is desperate to stop Sammy, but it's like trying to catch a bullet in flight. The SGIII is simply years ahead of the iPhone 5, with still more innovations to come.

100% untrue. No phone is years ahead of the iPhone, these phones both have pros and cons. S3 is still more laggy than ip5, the ip5 cant run flash. The galaxy still has to limit for mms of videos. The ip5 cant expand storage. A true techie would know that, a blabber mouth wouldn't.

Valid points. But from all accounts, the SIII hasn't much lag. And wait til it gets JB. Oh, and nevermind the fact that it is actually, truly multitasking while experiencing little to no lag.

I can tell your as a GS3 owner, it hasn't any lag. Zero. Even if you multitask several apps, which of course isn't a fair comparison, since the competition can't truly multitask.

I tried the gs3, and while its an incredible device it does and did lag if only cuz it does so much that some times it out performs its ram. I took it back, and settled on an Htc one x international which I still have. I also hate the built in touch wiz email app on the gs3. The fact that u can't view a video n the email kills me, u have to save it to the sd then go view it there. I don't like that.

Ted on iOS u double click the home button leave what u were doing and come back to it exactly where u left off without having to reload the app. U can also leave open any app or amount of apps u choose I love doing that with YouTube. What more can u ask of multitasking bro. True multitasking is what I just explained.

No, true multitasking is all those apps running at the same time. You don't have to put one in suspend to run another. The iPhone doesn't do it, never has.

Depends on what you do, on my iPad update the update paused and every time I closed the thing and wanted to do something different (same happens with downloading apps), now on android updates continues even when I'm using the phone while it downloads, so I see an advantage there, some apps on iOS start all over again when you "multitask" try for example making a iTunes account on your device (iOS5) and turn the screen off... you might need to start all over, and same with other stuff which is annoying

it dosnt need to. even if it does it will start to lag and stutter and force close. even with 4cpu and ill-written apps no wonder it preforms slowly. The OS is still immatured manufacutres cant provide decent hardware for its own handsets.

Ted if u don't think Sammy's followed, and learned from apple u r nuts. The og galaxy heavily borrowed from the iPhone. As did the gs2 from the iPhone 4. Now u notice the galaxy s 3 series all look alike regardless of carrier. It's now a true brand and it is awesome. iPhone series all look alike regardless of carrier it is a true brand. On that front Sammy followed n apples footsteps. Brand recognition is where it's at.

You all need to look at the history and do some research. No one followed or borrowed from Apple. Apple's technologies and ideas came from everyone else. They just spend more money on their marketing which gave them the boost. Everything that they have now, have been out before they even consider to put on their device. Apple don't take the chances on new technologies when it first comes out. Samsung and among other companies do!!!!! Ask yourself, how long did it take Apple to make camera work on the IPhone and than the front camera? On top of that they had to come out with the S model to have the video to work. How long did it take them to Nav maps on it. The voice command on phones came out way before Apple did, and so did touch screen. Get it straight, Apple doesn't make or even engineer any of the parts they put together or their device. The only make one thing...the operating system. For all Apple's fan, think outside a box for a minute. I use to have an IPhone, and I liked it at that time until I tried a Android. Never Again Apple!!!!!!!!

Have you read any of the articles computing Apple's R&D budget to other tech companies? It's pretty telling. (Oh, and buying other companies to put their product in your device isn't R&D. Nor is stealing something like swipe to unlock or drop down notification shade.)
