I graduated high school in the year 2000. Cell phones were VERY much an adult device and us kids couldn't get one unless our parents were super rich. Before then, beepers were used to contact each other. But nearly a decade later, children of virtually all ages use cell phones! To me, that's just amazing! I hope to be a dad myself in a few more years, and to be honest, I would probably go insane if my son/daughter's bill showed 10,000 texts; let alone over 500 texts! With class running from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM and then after school activities, which typically run to about 6 PM, where do the kids find the time to text that much!? =) Socially, I can understand that on the weekends, you might use texting to coordinate activities, but it honestly seems like, with the sheer amount of texting, people sit in the same room and text each other! =)

Oh.. This definitely isn't a news anymore especially when someone from the Philippines (like me) reads this article. In the Philippines (the texting capital of the world), the entire nation send over 1 billion text messages in a day alone. Yes that isn't an exaggeration. A mind-boggling 1 BILLION TEXT MESSAGES PER DAY are being sent by Filipinos all thanks to Sun Cellular which pioneered the unlimited texting and unlimited calling services at a very low price. Nowadays here in the Philippines, three out of four mobile operators (Smart Communications, Globe Telecom and Sun Cellular) are now offering unlimited text messaging services. The only exception here is Red Mobile which, by the way, is based on the UMTS network infrastructure of CURE.

Yes it really is. Filipino teens just can't afford not to text their buddies during daybreak when their friends wake up and at night time when their friends go to bed. Anyway, based on some reliable sources that I have read recently, Philippines and India are now in a cut-throat competition for the title of "The texting capital of the world". Let's just see who shall prevail. Lol..
