American Express and Starbucks to hook up with Passbook by the end of the month

When iOS 6 launched the other day, it included Apple's new Passbook application which uses bar codes to allow your phone to be used in lieu of a printed ticket or an invoice; while some companies have already signed on, Starbucks and American Express will be joining the list at the end of the month...

Thats good but i really dont know how to use passbook... I FEEL DUMB :/

I wonder how safe it is. I mean, what if you lose your phone. I hope it requires a password everytime you access the app (in case your phone is not password protected) or at least a pin for every transaction.
