Amazon to offer HTC Hero on July 15 for $710
Not even after a week since HTC officially announced the Hero, you can now place a pre-order on Amazon UK's web site for this slick looking phone. The catch is that the price and release date is subject to change; so who knows what kind of cards they'll pull. You'd better start saving now because it'll set you back roughly $710 – a pretty decent hit to the wallet. We're hoping if the price does change that it'll only decrease rather than increase. And if you do plan on saving for this Android powered device, you'll have some time before the July 15 arrival of the phone.

it's because we are too cheap to buy unlocked phones, we are used to being subsidized

Unlocked phone FTW, because in some countries like Southern Western world so called New Zealand have crap contract which we pay heaps so it is better to get the unlocked phone. And I think EU prefer unlocked phones too but doesn't look like USA is a big fan of unlocked phones just dunno why. Monopoly in USA?
