The Samsung Fascinate on Verizon can be had at Amazon for $0.01 with a new two-year contract, and a $30 bill credit is applied until September 30th...

So do you have to be a brand new customer for Verizon to purchase a phone from Amazon are can you be an existing Verizon customer with an eligible upgrade?

Yes. I tried to buy it for the big penny, but since I'm an existing Verizon customer, they refused the sale. Told me I would have to cancel my current Verizon acct, and 30 days would have to pass before I was eligible to get the deal. Didn't want to be without a phone for 30 days, so I went to the Verizon store and paid full price. ARGHHH!!!

Because 3rd party companies don't get paid much for you to upgrade. They get paid the big bucks for you to activate with them.

I wasn't trying to upgrade, was trying to open a new account as a new customer, then I would have 2 accounts, but they wouldn't allow it.
