A TI OMAP 4470 dual core 45nm compares to the 45nm quad core?

Amazon nobody will fall for that one.

4. smallworld posted on 06 Sep 2012, 13:49

It has a powerful GPU. The same as the ipad 3.

22. sgtdisturbed47 posted on 06 Sep 2012, 16:07

I'd rather have a Nexus 7 than a Fire any day. Tegra 3 all day erryday.

8. Berzerk000 posted on 06 Sep 2012, 14:11 1

It has a new GPU, about 50% more powerful than the one found in the 4460.

http://www.slashgear.com/ti-previews-omap-4470-graphics-50-improvement-over-4460-10208481/

"On the TI 4460 (the same processor in the Galaxy Nexus and various other high-end smartphones and tablets) got about 24 frames per second, while the new 4470 got a solid 42."

27. fanboy1974 posted on 06 Sep 2012, 18:55

Is that test at the same resolution? TI4460 720p vs TI4470 720p or T4460 720p vs TI 44470 1080p? It does make a difference.

28. Berzerk000 posted on 06 Sep 2012, 19:02

I'm sure it was at the same resolution, or someone would have reported it

HD screen of this density is unparalelled right now in Android world. It's an iPad killer!

jeff bezo your a total doosh bag but great product

5. sorcio46 posted on 06 Sep 2012, 13:58 1

LOL They only compared FPOS... when in ALL other benchmark will be back Tegra 3 !

Fire HD seems pretty good, I would like to have the same but with JB 4.1 stock inside !

6. Joshing4fun posted on 06 Sep 2012, 14:04 1

Full HD but not one Windows rt tablet could have that? Ugh...

16. downphoenix posted on 06 Sep 2012, 14:53 1

No kidding. Android tabs and windows RT tabs are still in the 720pish ranges, even most of the top models that are priced the same as the Ipad, what the heck!

It does make it more clear why Apple has a commanding lead in the Tablet market while in the phone market they have a lead over individual models but are about half of the marketshare that android enjoys. Android makers just dont try as hard in the tablet segment, they're fine with Apple more or less having the best tablet and dont try to outdo them like they do on phones. I hate to say it since I want to avoid Apple at all costs, but if I was to spend $500-600 on a tablet, it would be on an Ipad, not Android tablet, mainly due to the resolution of the screen and the app disparity between android phones and tablets is still big, but yea, its there.

When the Kindle gets rooted and rom'd I will be there!

9. phitch posted on 06 Sep 2012, 14:15

My favorite part is the 250 MB of LTE! Wooboo... that'll last you if you are streaming a lot digital content.

12. uudayy posted on 06 Sep 2012, 14:25

so true. Why bother with such a low threshold for a tablet? for that occasional usage, you always have your phone.

19. SmartPhoneStream posted on 06 Sep 2012, 15:21

but for only 49.99 a year, that's a great deal and you don't always have to be on LTE you can use Wi-Fi

20. g2a5b0e posted on 06 Sep 2012, 15:31

It's a decent deal for sure, but the extra $200 doesn't seem worth it unless you just have the cash to burn.

21. BREvenson posted on 06 Sep 2012, 16:02

True, but there are two solid factors in this idea. First, there is no contract...at least, I think. Correct me if I'm wrong; the article did not mention it. You pay $50, and that's it for the year. No tricks, no added fees/surcharges, just data...and cloud storage and free credit at Amazon.com. Again, correct me if I'm wrong, since not all the info is known yet.

Second, the plan does seem pricey, but for those that don't go nuts with the 4G data, it is a pretty nice deal, especially since there's no pressure of a monthly bill or strict contract provisions. In other words, they're basically saying "relax, have some fun.", which is something I believe that today's wireless consumers ought to be doing. It's not easy to relax, though, so at least Amazon is trying something interesting.

25. Zayuh24 posted on 06 Sep 2012, 18:00

I assume the contract isn't a monthly thing, but a $50 YEARLY thing, much like Amazon Prime being a $70 yearly thing. And if the 4G LTE doesn't sell as nicely as they like, they may up the limit from 250MB to 500, or add that as a separate deal.

10. uudayy posted on 06 Sep 2012, 14:20 1

The 7inch cannot have the 1920x1200 resolution. The DPI is only true for the 8.9 inches.
I am guessing the 7 inch is 1280x800 in my honest opinion.

17. g2a5b0e posted on 06 Sep 2012, 15:18 1

You have to be right on that. It isn't impossibIe, but I seriously doubt the 7" has that kind of resolution.

"Amazon showed off Kindle Fire HD models with 7" and 8.9” HD displays with a 1920 x 1200 resolution. For those of you who are into pixel density, that translates to 254 ppi."

I sometimes wonder if people bother to proofread articles posted on the internet anymore. According to the above passage, the 7" & 8.9" versions have the same resolution & the same ppi.

11. downphoenix posted on 06 Sep 2012, 14:24

Well played Amazon. I dunno about paying an extra $100 for a 2 inch bump up in the screen, unless there's something Im not noticing difference spec wise between the 2 versions.

13. Captain_Doug posted on 06 Sep 2012, 14:27

This'd be great with CM10.

14. sarb009 posted on 06 Sep 2012, 14:36

500$ for kindle fire ? huh, are u mad amazon ?

15. downphoenix posted on 06 Sep 2012, 14:50

Well that's for 32GB vs 16GB on an Ipad, and Wifi and LTE vs just Wifi.

I think its a good move on Amazon's part, to lure in fans of the original Fire that want the top model that is competitive with the top tablets out there, rather than a good but not best $200 model that is sufficient but not as good as the top tablets in anything.

18. SmartPhoneStream posted on 06 Sep 2012, 15:19

Make the LTE one 400 and i'd consider getting it

23. Chasers posted on 06 Sep 2012, 16:09

Nice product. I do think they will have a hard time selling a $500 LTE tablet though. especially with only 250mb of data per month. lets do the math... thats 3gigs per month of data for $50 per month. You do get a $10 credit so say 3 gigs for $40 thats still to expensive and not enough data. I hope they have bigger data plans to offer that cost less than $10/gigabyte.

24. downphoenix posted on 06 Sep 2012, 17:28

You get the cloud storage too.
