Thanks to a little birdie, we've heard that the Samsung Alias 2 U750 is due to be released by Verizon on May 11th. Unfortunately, exact pricing isn't known at this point, but is expected to be around $100-$130 after rebate on a 2 year contract. (We'll keep checking on the price!) The most interesting feature will be the e-ink QWERTY keyboard, which changes between numbers and letters depending on how the dual-hinged 2.6" QVGA display is opened.

Here is a snipit from how Verizon describes the phone...

The new Samsung Alias 2 gives you the convenience of a QWERTY keypad in a unique flip-style format. It has the same dual-hinge design that made original Alias a hit, but Alias 2 adds a touch of magic a Magic Key keypad using e-ink technology. In phone mode, you see a standard phone keypad. In texting mode, however, the keys magically change into a full, four-row QWERTY keypad. But the magic doesnt stop there. The Alias 2 also has a 2.6 QVGA screen for crisper, clearer viewing, a 2.0 megapixel camera, and dedicated hot keys for one-touch access to some of your most used features like Bluetooth, text messaging, voicemail, camera, voice commands, games and alarms.

no it doesnt....its just another rehashed phone that will sell because it has a keyboard.

that e-ink thing is new. if that tech works well that will be a fun selling point that will help. now if they would have added an HTML browser, which is nearly unforgivable to not have at this point of the game, it would be sold even more.

Great idea. I just wish it was a "smart-phone."

Retail prices vary per store, and is based on what each store purchases them for (at least with indirect locations).

Still don't get the school room theme going on.

I guess its because this phone is directed mainly towards teens. If this is like any other VZW phone there should be other themes to go with it.

This really beats my Alias. My next phone will either be this or tthe EnV3.

bluetooth stereo support??? according to the samsung rep that is a NO. BB Storm FTW

16. brikz4real posted on 01 May 2009, 21:31

Even the original GOLD Alias had BT Stereo support. No reason to think this one WON'T. They could have added higher resolution on the camera as well as an HTML browser to really compete with the Voyager 2 coming soon.
