Alcatel One Touch Evo7 is a modular tablet with optional, removable 3G radio

Here is a concept that we don't get to write about every day. The folks at Alcatel have come up with the idea of a modular tablet – the One Touch Evo7, which is a Wi-Fi-only slate, but a removable 3G radio is also being offered for it. The idea is to allow consumers to get the tablet on its own and later add 3G connectivity in case they feel like they need it. The Alcatel One Touch Evo7 comes with a removable frame, available in multiple colors, that is used to cover the module...

Id like to see more modular tablets. Buy a plain tablet that you can add wifi gps bluetooth 3g and 4g to whenever you want. Heck maybe even be able to add more memory and internal storage.

To add more flash memory or RAM via upgradeable modules would give the mod community something similar to the PC world. Upgrading to a faster WiFi chip, adding more RAM to an aging smartphone, installing a high res LCD...
it could be so sweet...

I doubt the processor is upgradeable. Really the only lacking point though.

What a hack device. EVO? Smart cover? Come on. I know it's hard to be original with all devices basically composed of plastic/metal/glass. But come on... lol. Isn't Alcatel a Chinese company. Man they just love copying crap. BE ORIGINAL! Removeable 3G radio isn't a bad idea though.

Alcatel is a French company. It doesn't make phones. Its mobile division was bought out by a Chinese company, which makes phones under Alcatel's name, but Alcatel has nothing to do with it.

I like the concept. Instead of selling two separate tablets which is 3G or wi-fi enabled only. This could be used in other major selling brands too...

The idea is good enough.
The questions are:
*will lead to other ideas?
*other manufacturers
will implement this?
*Apple gonna sue
Alcatel?
Anyway those "big" companies
Apple/Samsung should invest
more in making tablets
expandables as the
others say:memory/
processors/battery.
Because some of them
are overpriced and
equally or more than
a laptop.

If implemented properly, this can be a better solution compared to the usb dongles available in the market today.
