After winning $368 million from Apple in court, VirnetX back again for more
0. phoneArena 10 Nov 2012, 04:05 posted on
VirnetX recently won a $368 million award against Apple in court; using the same patents, VirnetX says that Apple's new products like the Apple iPhone 5, the Apple iPad mini and other newer devices with FaceTime, infringe on VirnetX's IP...

A million bucks per device sold to date would be fair and appropriate.

well, what goes around comes around. samsung better record what apple's attorney said about a small part of something big & complex during apple's law suit

All of this is funny. Do you really think that they will stop the suits after this. If you get the big dog on the block the others will fall easily. And either Apple will pay and make an agreement or just buy them out and the sue everyone else. They are just as much a patent whore as Google was when it bought Moto just for the patents.

How come every time Apple get caugh doing something illegal or wrong, you ifan ALWAYS bring Google name in it?.
Why didn't you say MS or Nokia?, why always Google?.
I'm just curious, even Apple do this; stop being a crybaby and a snitch.
They got caught, now they are trying to rat everybody out!.

You dare to throw that joke of a response ate me when all the comments about apple getting patents for others work and how they are patent trolls. Back away from the bar and put the peanuts down. iFan ? Nope android fan. Crybaby? Nope check your Huggies and get changed. They win its a fix the judge is biased. They lose then break them get all their money send them to hell. Even they are so greedy and evil. Sammy makes the most money no Apple. And why mention Google because they are the biggest patent hound the bought Moto. Now come with it. Never said Apple wasnt guilty just stated what the fall out could be. reading and comprehension not that hard.

Wow, you respond to a two week old post... I only kept following this article to see if i would get 50 thumbs ups... Chances are that Martyk already stopped following these comments, like i'm getting ready too do... You ought to be a lawyer for Apple or a really dedicated fan boy... Fact is, if Apple uses again the patent, they should pay again!!!

Reminds me of how Apple started tacking on Samsung products onto their lawsuit when they saw things going their way. Best comment of the case was when the Apple engineer said they didn't look at patents when they designed it but Apple goes out of their way when they think someone violated any of their patents. More R&D money needed?

My 3rd favorite company - after Google and Samsung. :D
If I could - I would have supported it and bought VirnetX stocks.

As long as they're not taking my iphone away from me and forcing me to use android, this is not a problem for me

You're safe. It's only Apple that wants to eliminate other choices so they don't have to compete and become a niche producer, like happened with desktop computers.

So if Apple does the same thing and tries to force me to use iOS, then that's ok? I've been saying all along that I think that companies who copy something meritous should compensate the inventor. The problem is Apple has been using patents as a way to eliminate competition. If they weren't in the financial situation they're in, they'd be open to monetary compensation, which is what the patent system was brought about for. It was not meant to use patents to eliminate competition, but to compensate the inventor for using their IP. Banning of products should only happen if the infringing party fails to compensate the inventor. Apple however is using the system to ban products right off the bat.
The argument that some have made that these lawsuits will spur innovation isn't quite correct. While the infringing party will have to find a way around the tech in question to comply, that's not innovation, it's finding another way to accomplish the same thing. Now just imagine if all of these companies could come to some kind of cross licensing agreement. Then they could be free to actually innovate without fear of litigation. Rather than wasting time finding new ways to do the same things, they could focus on coming up with completely new ideas/tech.
It may just be me, but that sounds much more efficient and quicker than what we currently have. But by all means, let's hope the current situation continues so one company can come out victorious & get a stranglehold on the industry. Because if one or even two companies get a lock on the industry, it will be almost impossible for new companies to come onto the scene.

Ok I only read one sentence from your essay. The only company apple has being trying to ban is Samsung and the copycat devices.
There are plenty of android makers out there: Sony, htc, Motorola, huewei.
83. VZWuser76 (Posts: 2588; Member since: 04 Mar 2010)
Actually no. They tried to ban the HTC One series for clickable links (phone numbers, addresses, etc) last spring. They tried to ban Moto and got it in Germany, except those were models due to be discontinued, and that was just a month or so ago.
As far as my "essay", it's a f***ing paragraph. Is your ADD so bad that you can't get through a paragraph? I shudder to think what would happen if you encountered a book. Sorry my comments are not "OMG, Appl sums & android rulz, this is EPIC!", and yes I misspelled those words on purpose. I apologize for learning to read and write, and I'm sure the education apologizes with me.

Wow. Everyone hates on Apple when they sue, because the patents are illegitimate. When Apple gets sued over an illegitimate patent, everyone is happy.
Awful double standard.
I want the patent wars to end. I don't care who is getting sued by whom anymore. Just stop. Everyone needs to get out of the courtroom and back to innovating.
VirnetX is nothing more than a patent troll.
73. VZWuser76 (Posts: 2588; Member since: 04 Mar 2010)
See my post (#72). The reason I think most are angry with Apple is what they're using the legal system for. If Apple took Microsoft's approach by licensing their IP rather than trying to ban the competition, there wouldn't be as much animosity with Apple. For that to work however Apple would have to agree to a similar price. That I believe is one of the main issues with this situation. They should have a standardized price for patents, even a tiered price structure depending on the importance of the patent. That way the only thing to determine is if infringement occurs or not. Everyone pays the same amount. It would be fair, but with lawyers helping determine the outcome, that'll never happen.

Do you know what Apple did? there are tons of reason WHY people act this way!
Just like they said 'you got beaten by your own stick"
82. Zero0 (Posts: 592; Member since: 05 Jul 2012)
I'm fully aware of what Apple did, but that's no excuse.
More lawsuits will not solve the problem.
