After 40 hours of free mobile music, users will have to put money in Pandora's box

0. phoneArena posted on 27 Feb 2013, 22:34

Streaming music app Pandora is now limiting its free music for mobile users to just 40 hours a month after which a 99 cents fee will have to be paid for the remainder of the month for unlimited tunes; Pandora says that this will affect less than 4% of its listeners since the average Pandora listener spends twenty hours a month listening to music from the app across all devices...

I know many who'll complain about this. Personally, I stopped using Pandora about four years ago, favoring Grooveshark instead (I like the control).

This makes me sad having been a pandora user for years.. And now they drop this on me.

Like the article said, if you're near a computer, stream your music there. It won't count toward the 40 hours limit.

You know, I always found Last.fm far superior to Pandora for finding new artists. Pandora is like listening to music I've already got on my iPhone. Too bad Last.fm's app and service is getting even more restrictive than Pandora...

Yeah, for Last.fm mobile you have to pay $5 a month, but it digs DEEP for new music, I find only Audioaddicts stations (Digitally imported radio, Sky.fm, Jazz radio, Rock radio) match how deep it digs

sorry $3 a month

If it only affects 4% then why even implement something like this just to piss the small 4% of people off I hate companies like this!

It makes no sense to me that its free on the PC but have to pay for mobile even with the crazy number of ads. Goodbye Pandora. RIP.

one more soultion create 2 user account with split taste in music if it hurts you that bad! also you might consider downloading iheart radio

12. Reluctant_Human posted on 28 Feb 2013, 08:57

That's the whole point. There are so many other free options that are just as good so why pay for Pandora considering they were already making money off the ads or bother creating extra accounts. It just seems pointless to gripe or go that extra step. That's why I'm just going to delete and move on once I hit that 40 hour mark.

Y'all should try Songza. No commercials. Free. User and Songza generated playlists. And it's a concierge for you..."Friday evening: Do you want to listen to a playlist for Pre-gaming? Relaxing with friends? Tearing it up at a club?...."

Try it out.

Didn't they already have a limit set up? When I used Pandora...been over a year now, I was shut down once cause I hit my limit. But, I just paid a dollar for the rest of the month. A dollar is not much to ask for the service they provide...even more so, after they give you 40 hours of listening time for free. They do have bills to pay. What I want to know...why are the royalties going up? The record companies and bands are not providing anything better then they are currently providing.

Why are so many people getting upset over a dollar? If you use Pandora so much that you end up having to pay the dollar for the rest of the month, wouldn't you say you got your money's worth?

I personally prefer iHeartRadio, which is highly underrated. Not only can you make your own stations based on artists and songs, you can also listen to radio stations from all over the US. Pandora + TuneIn = iHeartRadio.

I subscribe to Pandora One. But I see a day where they charge more and offer less free.

17. bigdawg23 posted on 28 Feb 2013, 20:34

I also subscribe to Pandora One. I have used it for over a year and half. I looked into other service but cost and app function drove me back to Pandora One.

iHeartRadio is ok, but I find that it has less selection. I listen to Pandora while driving to work, which is about an hour drive very day each way. iHeartRadio replays songs and has way less of a library than Pandora. Not sure how much time I actually spend on it though, is there a way to tell, like a timer or something?
