Instead of making further improvements to suretype (which btw, is a blessing for those of us with big fingers), RIM wants to go back to 2005. People will buy this with suretype, but with T9? Wasted development RIM.

It's not necessarily a wasted effort. I used to work for Sprint and I know a lot of people refused to buy the Pearl because of the Suretype keyboard. They also weren't willing to learn it when offered. So by making a Pearl with a T9 style keyboard they are going to get a little bit more business. People view the Curve and the Bold as too big. The Pearl is small and it would help them better understand how to use the phone because it won't be a drastic change from a feature phone or lower.

Nick, i'll agree with you about the suretype; it's not for everyone. I just don't see how many people would spend a substantial amount of money on something with a t9 keypad. I wouldn't imagine that any carrier that might pick this up would offer it for a price where it would sell. If people aren't willing to learn suretype, why would they be willing to learn t9?
