"Do you agree that Microsoft’s Windows Phone will be the main beneficiary of Google’s acquisition?"
Partialy.

I belive that both WP7 and bada will benefit form the google moto deal. I do actually believe bada will benefit more from this, as Samsung will go for bada full speed and Samsung being the 2nd largest phone manufacturer, will be able to make bada a very popular OS.

Of course WP7 very likely will benefit from this too, but since there has benn plenty of rimors of Microsfot buying Nokia and making their own hardware just like google, WP7 might not be such a good option for manufcaturers.

It's too late for me to edit this post now, but just wan't to say there has been some spelling errors in my post like microsfot instead of Microsoft. I'm aware of these, and i'll not write as quick next time, to avoid spelling errors.

I agree WP7 is not good. Bada leaves WP7 in the dust, bada has more functions, nicer UI, and more personalization option than WP7. Check your facts before you post anything.

I know the facts, i've used both OSes.

1. feature wise why would your average consumer buy bada over the competition

2. Why would Samsung dedicate all its resources to promote bada when its proven that the only company being capable of holding hardware and software together without creating a loss is apple?. What would make bada so special that will not end up like symbian or BBOS and webos?

Bada might end up killing Samsung just like we already saw

1. bada is a simple to use OS with a nice and clean UI and has lots of features. Like wifi direct with 300 mbps speed allowing wireless gaming for example. bada has so many features, i don't really have time to go trough them all here in this post : P

Basically, bada has more features than IOS and WP7. With the recent bada 2.0

2. Samsung know's it can earn lots more money by making their own OS, and they have to now that Google are making their own hardware. Nokia had no problems with Symbian, when Symbian 3 came out symbian had the biggest market share. It was only after Mr Elop announced Symbian dead that Symbians market share dropped and Android got the biggest market share.

1. Wifi direct is not a bada only feature but rather a certification more info on it here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wi-Fi_Direct
here is a list of a few devices with support for ithttp://goo.gl/aCMPn

still need to see though that

2. they make more money by having a company do all the OS coding for them, yeah they can add some of the features to their OS but complete development is expensive, also Symbian stated falling when some real competition came to It yes ellop killed Symbian faster but as the speed it was developed it was bound to happen sooner o latter

Allright.
with bada:
You can do internet thetering (can't do that on WP7, don't know about IOS here)
You have a file manager (not on WP7 nor IOS)
You can use your bada phone as mass storage on your computer (can do with IOS, but not with WP7).
Flash (not on IOS nor on WP7)
HTML 5 (that's on WP7 and IOS)
You can install java apps (not on WP7 nor IOS).
You can have a MicroSD card (can't have that on IOS nor WP7)
Javascript Framework (don't know about WP7 or IOS here)
NFC (not on WP7 nor IOS at the moment).
Widgets (not on WP7 nor IOS)
Your own background image (not on WP7, but IOS does have that).
Your own ringtone (WP7 will have 1 own ringtone with mango just like IOS, but with bada you can choose whichever ringtone you like so bada is better here).

then of course bada has multitasking, voice recognition, push notifications, app store (samsungapps).

And then we also have all the personalization options, like app shortcuts, folders to put your apps in and so on.

whenever I say I don't get one either :) but hey I get over it, sorry I've being studding

-Tether is on Both WP7 and iOS
-If I'm not mistaken there is a file manager app for wp7 (too bad I don't own a device)
-mass storage mode comes activated with the device on wp7 its more like a driver deal
-flash is to come on mango
-java apps? what for?
-depends on the device for wp7
-if you can have Java apps of course you need the framework
-NFC is to come further on WP7 and may also come on the iPhone 5 unless the wave 2 has NFC i see the same situation with the wave 3
-widgets work like the live titles on wp7

then of course multitasking, voice recognition, push notifications, app store.

and I know little about wp

At least you're nice instead of bashing like some other people do : )
I appreciate having a civilized conversation instead of just bashing, and you always keep your posts civilized : )

I have had WP7, and there is no file manager app for WP7. In fact, there is a restriction in WP7 that does not allow apps to get access to files.
With WP7, you can store images, music and videos via Zune. You can't access the files on a WP7 device from a computer, you can only transfer images videos and music via Zune. If you want office documents on your WP7, you need to send them via email to your WP7 email app.

And still with bada, you can have:
A MicroSD card (can't have that on IOS nor WP7)
Your own background image (not on WP7, but IOS does have that).
Your own ringtone (WP7 will have 1 own ringtone with mango just like IOS, but with bada you can choose whichever ringtone you like so bada is better here).

I try to keep my arguments to what I believe its true and try as much to back them up, but I can also understand other people have their opinions, I have respect for those who can give a considerable argument to contradict my opinion. yes you talk a lot about bada, but people talk a lot about WP or webos or android or iOS or rim, so I don't see a difference in there In more than market status and current level of popularity.

Just shows you how little functions IOS has, that you need to jailbreak it.
There is no need for Jailbreak with bada.

That bada has more functions than IOS and WP7 is a fact. I have used both WP7 and bada and i can say that bada easily has more functions than WP7. I have used IOS a lot of time in the shops to check it out, and bada has more functions than IOS too !

There is no denying it.

Ok,

Rim.... Market share is dying every day, and god help them they are trying. BBOS7 is a great os and has lots of inovation. But with google aquireing a top notch device maker, things are going to get tough for RIM. Their only chance, I believe, is their hardcore BB users that do not want a change. Inovation for their hardcore users is thier only shot.

Bada get lots more market share? This is not going to affect Bada at all... Samsung signed on for the Korean government project, separate from Bada, and all this speculation of what Google is doing will be over by then. All this is right now is Microsoft trying to stir the pot and they apparently ruffled some acer employees feathers a little.

This may have a short term affect in the handset market but I don't think google is dumb enough to screw it up. They will probably let motorola be their own thing and keep using samsung or HTC or possible LG for nexus devices. It would send quite a bad message if google uses motorola for a nexus device. On top of that Google will probably focus motorola into the settop box sector and try to score some more googleTV sales.

I think if bada were to work they need to start offering either a super amount of quality apps or if they can make it so iOS and android os apps work on it. And it has to be a seamless and easy option. Also legal. As you can see with web os witch has a small amount of app support

The amount of apps for the samsung wave 2 a tthe moment is 6500. About 6500 of them are quality apps. since samsung has strict quality testing on the apps that enter samsung apps, all of the apps that are entered in samsungapss hare high quality apps.
For example, Weatherbug, Accuweather, AP News, bambuser, norbsoft skymap, Brothers in arms 2, Gt racing + many more.

Its too early to know what will happen really. However, if Google isnt careful they can push their supporters like Samsung and LG if they don't address what they are doing clearly. If they allow rumors to fly someone with the right power might say the right comments and end up scaring off those venders. It is wise to have a back up like Bada for samsung, but until we see what Google is going to do to push Motorola they would be crazy to start pushing away now with the momentum Android has plus ICS coming shortly. WP7 is iffy. They are limiting too much like screen resolution so the new 4.7in HTC WP7 will look like crap on detailed stuff. I dunno, just have to wait and see. For now samsung+Android=love for me! :D

Well, Acer, everybody has an opinion. Except that this time, you have the wrong opinion. If your Android smartphones aren't doing so well, you would never have felt the need to write such. So we get it, you want to ditch Android and go for Microsoft and you hope to be more successful with the WP7 OS. And you're trying to get other smaller OEMs or possibly the other larger and more successful OEMs to ditch Android. That will not happen, you guys are sore losers. That is my opinion.

Even if Google decides to out smartphones made by Motorola, that wouldn't be alienating other OEMs as they have made a lot of money from their Android flavored gadgets. Samsung, HTC are examples of companies that will never leave Android. These are smart and innovative companies and they know there is still a lot of profits waiting to dabbed into. WP7 is not so lucrative at the moment, but the quoted companies have also been the most successful thus far.

Let us not forget that Microsoft is in bed with Nokia and that hasn't stopped the quoted OEMs and others, including Acer, from wanting to have WP7-colored phones.

Depending on what Google ends up doing with Motorola, I can see the market going in 1 of 2 ways;
1: Motorola slowly becomes the favored child of Google, and because of that, eventually becomes the sole manufacturer of Android. The other manufacturers start developing their own operating systems as their relations with Google begin to get strained. Both Samsung's Bada and HTC's os (let's call it Sense OS), assuming they have good developer support, will pick up market share fairly quickly, mostly from ex-Android users who prefer Samsung and HTC over Motorola. In a few years time, there will be no single "king of the hill" os, and market share will be fairly even between iOS, Android, Bada, and "Sense OS" with Windows Phone, Blackberry, whatever Nokia has at that point, and other smaller manufacturers trailing behind.

posted on 05 Sep 2011, 15:21

31. twenti7 (Posts: 152; Member since: 09 Jul 2011)

2: Google keeps their word and keeps Motorola as an independent company, showing no favoritism toward them. Because of this, most manufacturers have no reason nor desire to get rid of Android. Samsung will continue to develope their Bada OS, and it will slowly gain market share as developer support grows. It will soon rival iOS in regards of being a smooth, quick system, but will be more open and customizable. Android will remain the top-dog in terms of market share and iOS and Bada will consistantly battle for 2nd place.
