Want to unlock your out of contract Apple iPhone? If you're an AT&T customer with an AT&T branded model, unlocking the device is as simple as filing out a request form online; the carrier is allowing up to 5 iPhones per account to be unlocked by them...

Frankly you should be able to use your phone on whatever compatible carrier you want after the contract is up.

This form makes AT&T customer service rep's lives a whole lot easier. "Go online, I said go online, no, I will not unlock the iphone you "found" on the back of a truck in Hong Kong."

Think of the money AT&T could make if they charged for the service.

Even if you don't meet AT&T's requirements to unlock your iPhone, it can still be done with UnlockStreak activations for iTunes, which turns it into iPhone unlock software. That type of unlock is permanent like the one from AT&T.
