AT&T's GoPhone takes a hatchet to handset prices
AT&T's prepaid GoPhone brand is offering a number of discounted handsets to those interested in becoming subscribers. Activate either the $45 a month, or $60 a month plan and take home a free ZTE Maven. This is an Android 5.1 powered phone with a 4.5-inch screen, carrying a 480 x 854 resolution. The Snapdragon 410 SoC is under the hood, carrying a quad-core 1.2GHz CPU and the Adreno 306GPU. 1GB of RAM is inside along with 8GB of expandable internal storage. The device is equipped with a 5MP camera on back, and a .3MP shooter in front. A 2100mAh battery keeps the lights on.

Other phones receiving a $40 haircut include the ZTE ZMAX 2 ($89.95 on sale), Asus ZenFone 2E ($59.95 sale price), Microsoft Lumia 640 (on sale for $19.99), and the second-generation Motorola Moto E (discounted at $14.95). The sale begins today, although AT&T did not announce how long it will go on for.

GoPhone offers three different options for subscribers. All three come with unlimited talk and text inside the U.S., and unlimited messaging to Mexico, Canada and 100 other countries. For $30 a month, you have to pay $5 for each 100MB of data that you want. The $45 a month plan gives you 1.5GB of data and includes Rollover Data. The latter allows you to use your unused data during the following month. The $60 a month plan has everything that the $45 plan features, and includes 4GB of data, and unlimited talk and text from the U.S. to Canada and Mexico. While visiting those two counties, talk, text and data is included.
