That thought makes my cry. I wish Sprint would just die and be gone.

I don't know, but i believe apple is better of staying exclusive to att, for now. By the time anyone has any REAL 4g up and Running completely and maybe completely nation wide,it will be around 2011-2012. It would make no sense to start an iphone from scratch on a CDMA platform considering the fact that both att and verizon will BOTH be on 4g. Its better off staying with att, considering the new iphone coming out in 2 months, and WILL attract customers that have to have a video recorder or what ever else the current phone is physically missing. By the time the agreement is over, they can start a single kind of iphone for both or all carriers since the trend seems to be 4g for everyone.

The only thing that makes me think they might not stay exclusive with at&t are all the rumors that there are two or three different iphones in the works. One of which being an Edge only version which would obviouly be less expensive and not require the same $30 data plan. If the rumors are true, I just don't see why At&t would carry 3 different models, an Edge only makes sence but 3 jsut seems like over kill. If Apple does decide to offer it on more than one US network they run the risk of the Razr effect. Once everyone can get it, it looses some of its appeal.

Check that....the thrid one is possibly a China-only iPhone which will be either TD-SCDMA or WCDMA

Um...First off the current outlook for AT&T to deploy their 4g LTE network is 2014, a full four years behind VZW. Second off, Apple has been snatching up CDMA engineers for sometime now. They're def building a CDMA iPhone. The question is where in the hell is it going?

Wow, the Spartman. You're actually not critisizing the iphone. It almost sounds like you're interested to see if its coming to Verizon or not. Pretty amazing how things change so quickly. From your other posts it seemed like you were completely disgusted at the thought of the iphone. But I wouldn't be surprised if Apple launched 3G in both companies even if Verizon has a 4G. Why would Apple give Verizon the upperhand even after they denied them. I know business is about competition and profit, but I'm sure that Apple is loyal to AT&T in some ways. And honestly, if another iphone comes out in 2010, people will buy it regardless if it is 4G or not so making a superior one for Verizon is not really that important. I mean come on, millions of people bought the 1st generation iphone (and some are still buying it) even though it only supports edge. And to SellPhones82, there's only two handsets that looks like its going to AT&T if the exclusive thing still holds, the third one for some reason is specific to the Chinese market.

First off you should know from my other posts that despite I show the bad things about the iPhone, I've stated multiple times that I do think the iPhone is a great device and it is as good as the Storm that I carry. From all the criticizing I've done about the iPhone, it's nice to see them making the necessary changes needed in the new 3.0. I'm not anti-iPhone, I just think it could be better and they're dragging their asses about it. And why would Apple give it to Big Red? Uh...they have the most damn people in the biz. You mean to tell me, that over a grudge a company like Apple would refuse it's device to the largest carrier in the US? Uh I think not. It's more of a question if Big red would turn Apple down again, and I may not know the answer, but I highly, highly doubt anyone after seeing how it did on AT&T would say no to it again. Plus we should all know by now that Big Red happens to have the most advanced network (They say wide spread 4g by next year) and with Alltel their coverage is sick, and you think no one who's on the fence about an iPhone would get one if they cleared up the problems and threw it ona superior network? I think not. It'd jack the sales up even more.

Sprint has been working on the Pre for who knows how long, to directly compete with the iPhone, VWZ has the Storm to directly compete with the iPhone; competetion is what really brings in the money, availability...not so much. The only other US carrier I'd see getting the iPhone would be T-Mobile, but even then, their data service ain't that great, so there's really no point in that situation occuring. The iPhone will stay with AT&T for a bit longer, at least until the Pre/Storm 2/ and the 3rd gen iPhone have been out for a couple years; 2012. Or Maybe Apple will make exclusive phones for the other carriers?

I doubt apple will go to any other carriers in the US.

If anyone they would go to Verizon. They DID deny the iPhone on their network after all.

you know it's interesting.. i heard VZW is strict about what phones they pick n choose n sell. they might've denied the iPhone in the beginning, but hell they're even surveying people that left to see if iPhone was one of the reasons. if anything, apple should forget the exclusivity and come to VZW and the damned arguments about BBStorm & iPhone will be over.. if that happens.. VZW.. wow. congrats.

i dont think att can have exclusive rights much longer because verizon's sister company has had the iphone since att and we heard an employee at verizon say they are going to get more devices from them. one could be the iphone and plus apple cant upgrade the iphone because att is a 3g network and vodafone is a 4g lte network and soon verizon and sprint will be as well so if apple is smart they wont extend the exclusive date

Here's what I'm thinking: VZW has an "open network" thing that they announced, but so far there have only been niche devices, not really phones that have been presented and passed the almighty VZW testing process. What if, mind you this is pure speculation, what if Apple makes their CDMA iPhone happen, and makes it available via the apple store? Verizon keeps customers (albeit these customers are paying full price for the devices) and doesn't have to be responsible for servicing the iPhone because they don't sell it. Verizon wins because data ARPU goes up, and they don't have to worry about replacing anything on the iPhones that come in for servicing. Apple wins because they have a CDMA iPhone that could presumably be adapted for Sprint, MetroPCS and US Cellular. AT&T would be the only carrier to subsidize it, but I think it would reduce churn on the CDMA guys' side because ATT iPhone = $200, "Open" iPhone $400, but hey, no ETF or act fees to worry about, and it wouldnt touch your VZW contract. win/win/win What do you guys think?

I really do see your logic, but I think it is highly unlikely. I seriously doubt Apple would make a CDMA Iphone and sell via Apple store. I think This would work better through a GSM network. Which is really ony ATT and T-Mobile(USA). I think this wouldn't really bring Apple that much money either. It is a pretty cool Idea, but to me it wouldn't work. I have a feeling it would piss verizon off cause they probably wouldn't make any money. Cool idea though!
27. trist posted on 15 Apr 2009, 19:11 0 0
oh yeah? and how do you know that it'll "work better through a GSM network" ? you've never seen a CDMA iPhone that runs on 4G LTE, so shut up.
29. yippeekiyaymofo posted on 15 Apr 2009, 20:35 0 0
Verizon is losing money on handsets. The cost for subsidizing things and early upgrades and full retails are hurting their bottom line. The biggest reason people leave VZW? No, it's not the iPhone, it's the fact that people don't understand how their contracts work and cry when they can't get an early upgrade. So they bitch to cust service who allows an early upgrade. An "event phone" like the iPhone could be awesome for Apple, because they'd be opening up the product to a whole new customer set, and it could be awesome for Verizon because they could position the "openness" of the network and make lots of money for themselves as long as Apple doesn't have its hand in the pot for service. Having a CDMA iPhone or any "open" device that automatically requires data use increases their data revenue even if someone isn't locked in to a contract, and Apple makes money off the devices. I think that it just might be something to think about, I don't care if you're a GSM purist or not, the fact is that there's a lot of people that use CDMA too...China, anyone? Not everyone cares what technology powers their phone, most people actually kind of go, "Hey that's a cool/pretty/shiny/etc. phone. I want that." There's a ton of people that carry an iPhone because it's the "cool phone." It'd be smart for Apple to start expanding their customer base, and I was just speculating on one way this could be done.
37. drewsky posted on 16 Apr 2009, 11:18 0 0
@trist I never said for sure. It normally would work better because of how GSM network functions compared to CDMA. GSM works better for unlocking and locking a handset to a cellular network, and who said anything about 4G? you need to STFU!
38. drewsky posted on 16 Apr 2009, 11:35 0 0
@ yippeekiyaymofo I know what your saying man. CDMA isnt made for open devices that's all Im was saying. For a "open" CDMA iPHONE Apple would have to make a U-RIM card which is only available in Asia right now. U-RIM card is the equivalent to a SIM card for a GSM network, which allows you to change to another carrier. U-RIM cards are supposedly in the making for US carriers. CDMA is used much outside US execpt for Asia, everywhere else is mostly GSM. If Apple makes a CDMA Iphone they will have to choose which carriers or carrier to sell from. I hope yall better understand what I meant.
41. trist posted on 17 Apr 2009, 16:00 0 0
@drewsky wtf are you talking about? if apple wanted to go to VZW in the first place and VZW accepted it then there would be a cdma iphone by now. the fact that you're judging by saying it works better in a gsm network is BS til you've seen one for the cdma, which nobody has, thus you're the only one saying that. so gtfo.

So, if the iPhone goes to other carriers, then that means that the Blackberry Storm should go to other carriers right? After all, RIM should want to make money too and why not release the Storm on a carrier that has worldwide coverage?
