AT&T says its launch of Nokia Lumia 900 to be its biggest ever, even surpassing the Apple iPhone's release

0. phoneArena 28 Mar 2012, 12:55 posted on

Speculation is that AT&T will be spending $200 million to promote the launch of the Nokia Lumia 900 and according to AT&T's device head, it will be "a notch above" prior launches from the carrier which include all previous five iterations of the Apple iPhone...

Hahaha...they are delusional if they think this thing will be bigger than the iPhone. There is a reason MSFT and Nokia are paying $25 MILLION to get AT&T employees to adopt these as company phones prior to release. They keep trying to stack the deck, and they keep coming up short.

Bigger maybe. As lucrative, I doubt it.

Even I have to laugh at the idea they think this will surpass the iPhone in sales.

As a Verizon Wireless customer, I'm still appalled by the fact that Verizon isn't WP7 friendly. They have only so far released one, HTC Trophy, and continue to shun the Lumia lineup. Once VZW see these speculated crazy sales they are going to want to jump on this hastily just like what they did with the iPhone. Jerks.

Question. What can any other smartphone do, in terms of everyday use, that a wp phone can't?

This will be an amazing phone for $99 especially since it has LTE in it. Now if it was on Verizon I'd be more impressed. The problem it's on AT&T. I love how people think windows phone is horrible, but can you save an attachement from an email on an iphone. NO YOU CAN'T. I love how people will shell out $300 for iphone 5 when it will only have a 1.5 dual core and maybe 1gb of ram with retna display. Lets be real the only reason apple sells as they do is they have a cult. If you looked at functionality and specs apple would be worse than blackberry.

I'm honestly surprised to see so many hate comments on this article, with people bashings. I have the feeling that these people fear Nokia Lumia 900 will be successful.

They are actually paying soI much money on this phone to spread the existence of windows phones.
I like window phones I used to own one, but I don't think it will make windows phones, dramatically gain much market. Its a bad time for them. The competition with android and apple is pretty fierce, and Android hasn't even begun the reach its full all out potential.

really people? windows phone dont suck... i ve owned two of them, several android phones, and an iphone. they all have their benefits, and not everyone likes all of them. most of these hate comments are just plain ignorant. btw, most all manufactures offer incentives to the cell phone reps to sell their devices, including almost all android phones. one big thing windows phones have going for them is the eco system integration. which android doesn not have , nor will it ever. zune marketplace and music manager is also extremely nice for those of us who also use our phones as mp3 players. ( which is almost everyone) android doesnt have a media manager anywhere near what zune or itunes is. there is a lot of potential with this platform, and it will apeal to a lot of people. and for those of you who think no one cares or wants a windows phone. head over to wpcentral.com and check out the millions of users who love it.. narsacists, geesh

i like WP7, but i need to correct your innacuracies.

Google Music > itunes > Zune Marketplace. Until zune and itunes let you upload your entire library for free, store it for free, and stream it to ANY device regardless of OS... as well as all paid music is 320k DRM free MP3s... they will always be inferior. And GM has sales all the time, on great music. Find that on either itunes or Zune. i put itunes ahead of zune because it has a bigger music library by far.

and if your in it for the streaming of songs u dont own, pandora is free, where you have to pay a subscription to zune.

its called a skydrive, and windows phone also can stream music from it, however no one wants to stream their own music because it uses data, and lots of it. and if you think itunes or google music compares , i feel sorry for you.

It's astonishing - when Android fans bombard Windows Phone/Nokia articles; this behavior is just silly! More than half of the comments already are from people disparaging the ATT/Nokia/Microsoft effort.

just cant help but laugh at the Android fanboys on the comments. Come on, use a windows phone for a couple of weeks first before judging it. At least it rarely lags as compared to an Android..yes, Android lags..admit it..yes it has true multitasking but whats the point if it starts to lag..

p.s i've used an Android..and iOS.

i agree, the bashing is a bit much..... i love the WP platform and the smoothness and ease of use aspect of it. However, if your a person that loves to customize your phone to the very end then this article is propably not for you (Stick with Droid, and droid articles). I would love to see Windows Phone surpass RIM and be a great 3rd option for others.

***Side Note: the OS has accomplished quite a few thus far, a year later and Apollo will certainly help!***

I wouldn't mine buying a NOKIA phone used to have the NOKIA 3300 music phone best mp3 player phone i've ever had. Only thing I dislike is Microsoft because I hate the way they do their business practice against ANDROID. But still i'll have to check it out too see how it performs. my upgrade is already due and still waiting

Many people are desperate, they really want this phone to flop, they make stupid comments about things they barely know with comments like "this phone will flop", "windows phone sucks", "nokia is dead" as if they are paid, they forget that competition among manufacturers means no one is comfortable and so everyone is working to improve on their products, which is better for us consumers, imagine getting a phone like this one for just 100 bucks on a 2 year contract! That is a result of competition! I think people just want to prove that they are smarter and that what they have is as good as it gets! Be open to change, people and don't bash those who are!

I love Nokia phones, I just wish they would reconsider making a few Android devices. I know right now, that's not gonna happen but that's what I would like to see. WP7 is cool, I just think that would be a match made in heaven.

Now I have brought this up before:

What is up with all the negativity here????

Is there any reason- any at all- that some of the posters I respect are afraid of WP? Because that is the only reason I can see for the bashing of a still young OS approaching the make-or-break portion its life. The 900 from Nokia is the most important WP release in the US to date. It needs to be a success for many reasons:

1) AT&T wants a hook to seperate itself from Verizon. WP is it's chance. If the 900 is a success, than it has a legit reason to brag. Not to metion if it is a good device, the sales of other WP's on it's shelfs may get a bump. Dropping the price on the Focus S, the Flash already being free, and both Titans give a lot of options. We saw this back in the day with the "Droid" series and launch on Verizon- it was the standard, but other Android handsets benefited.

2) Microsoft needs a good device to bridge the gap to Apollo devices. I am not sure if the 900 will hold up that long, but it sure could go a long ways.

3) Both Microsoft and Nokia need Verizon and Sprint to feel they need WP devices. If AT&T is enjoying a good run, that is accomplished.

OF COURSE AT&T, Nokia, and Microsoft are going to push the 900. Why on earth is that a bad thing to Phone Arena users? And by the way- little old T-Mobile is selling the low end Nokia 710 very well, and is promoting it decently. WP is growing in all the markets it is actually being supported in. Not what I call a hard thing to connect the dots on. The 900 does not need to be an iPhone, GS2 type of hit. It just needs to be successful.

This time last year, all we heard is how Microsoft needs to promote WP, the carriers need to promote WP, the Handset makers need to support and promote WP. The consumers need more awarness. WHY all the bashing when it actually starts to happen? WP will pull more customers from Feature Phone users, low end Android users, and maybe some Blackberry converts. That is a drop in the bucket to Android and iPhone sales. WP is 2 years away from challenging either of the titans. So again I ask:

Why all the negativity??????

Windows and Nokia need a phone like the (now old) Dell Venue Pro.. something UNIQUE !! a touchscreen brick is a touchscreen brick.

What is needed by the business and heavy texters.. is a 4.1 screen with a slide out portrait keyboard.. ! Maybe even a phone like the old Dash 3G (with a touch screen..) similar to Blackberry.

I feel Nokia and Windows will fail if they try to compete with Apple and Android by making more phones that look alike. They need to make unique form factors. Try to take some of Balckberrys thunder, a LOT of people like the small keyboard. Not having one is stupid.
