AT&T says its launch of Nokia Lumia 900 to be its biggest ever, even surpassing the Apple iPhone's release

0. phoneArena 28 Mar 2012, 12:55 posted on

Speculation is that AT&T will be spending $200 million to promote the launch of the Nokia Lumia 900 and according to AT&T's device head, it will be "a notch above" prior launches from the carrier which include all previous five iterations of the Apple iPhone...

@ Tre-Nitty

"This phone will flop. Windows phone sucks. I tried it and yes I'm ashamed to admit it."

This is more akin to trolling than anything else. Saying that you don't LIKE the OS or that you don't THINK it will do well is an honest opinion. STATING that it sucks and will flop, and that you are ashamed to have tried it, indicates that there is very little objectivity there. You can't turn your opinions into fact before it is proven one way or the other.

When MS/Nokia have to put together a bounty fund to motivate sales reps to sell their stuff, that tends to indicate the presence of a certain level of desperation. I wonder who is more desperate - MS/Nokia with their bounty fund, or RIM putting off its annual meeting with shareholders until after the BB10 launch?

It kind of reminds me of the story about the dog food company - they created a new line of dog food and put $ in the adverts, put $ in the launch event, and, and, and. But dogs hated the new dog food.

Apple (and by extension, AT&T) did the same thing with the iphones up to and including the 4. Fans of the traditional smartphone (small screen, physical keyboard, like a shrunken laptop that doesn't open) thought the iphone would flop since it was just an app launcher and not a true smartphone (which is still true). Untold millions of units later, they're proved wrong. Microsoft, Nokia, and AT&T are just using this same strategy. If it's not broken, no need to fix it.

Yeah but the iphone wasn't a flop upon debut like wp7. Nor does this Nokia cost $600 like the iphone.

My, look at all of the thumbsdown votes posters in this topic are generating. I wonder if there are only 20-ish fans of WP who are members of PA? Maybe you should ask your friends to join and then you can produce more negative votes. In the meantime, PA's eyeball count metrics head northward.... lol

I remember those TV ads and everyone was drooling over the launch of the iPhone. Alot of people didn't know any better, but now that I'm able to look at those ads better, has anyone noticed the iPhone is connected to Wifi on all these ads? At launch it was only able to connect on at&t's 2G network (edge), so that explains it's speeds in the video being on Wifi. That phone was never that fast at loading websites, especially on edge.

The phone launch promotions and commercials might be 'huge',the sales figures certainly will not be. Very few people want windows phones

"it will be AT& T's biggest launch ever."

In advertising dollars? Maybe.

In sales? No it won't be. Windows phone is a nice OS but no one really cares about it. I mean, if people come in to buy it I'll gladly sell it, but anyone who cares about Nokia are older people who don't want smartphones anyway.

my thoughts exactly. Elderly people always looked to Nokia devices without all the "Bells and Whistles" and now they ask for the iPhone because Grand daughter/son told them to get one. LOL. It's pretty hilarious if you ask me. They don't want all the bells and whistles, but they ask for the iPhone.

Well they're never gonna change that if they just launch it like any other phone, if WP is gonna break any ground they need something huge. This could be it, probably won't be, but it should be a good start.

I don't think AT&T or this article meant anything other than this being AT&T's biggest push for a launch ever. I doubt they are expecting iPhone level sales.

I must disagree with your latter statements for obvious reasons. Obviously some people care about the OS, and obviously not all people who care about Nokia are older people.

It's one of the best spec'd WP phones available, and together with Lumia 800 the most beautiful one. Actually it's one of the most beautifully designed phones ever.
