What a great deal...but what's this about the ics update being here soon? I've been waiting and waiting. Att has no official word, although their last official word was Q2 2012. Only 15 days left to make good on that.

Q2 of 2012 for samsung to release it, more like next year before at&t updates the Galaxy phones.

huh? Samsung has had it out for a while now internationally, these american carriers just need to hurry their ass up. CM9 is almost officially ready though.

Wow, not even the Skyrocket with LTE.

9. remixfa posted on 15 Jun 2012, 16:22 3

the ATT SGS2 has the superior Exynos chip. That also means its not LTE capable and only goes to 21mb/s. To ATT that means its the "inferior" set because it cant talk about LTE. So their marketing stupidity is the consumers gain. The skyrocket uses the inferior S3 chipset. They can keep it.

Seriously.. 10 bux is a "excellent buy"

I'm with Non_Sequitur, I'll take the Skyrocket with LTE over GS2 at ATT, other things being equal. At Walmart, the Skyrocket goes for $99 but it comes with a $100 Walmart gift card during this week's special.

I prefer the larger screen on a less-congested and new LTE network than a smaller screen on a congested HSPA network clogged up with iPhone users. The processor is non-issue when the network is s-l-o-w.

LTE is bragging rights. If your phone is DL 10-15 or 30, you dont really see/notice the difference. Its pretty instant either way.
Ill take the processor thats ALWAYS stronger and the much better battery life over 0.2 inches of diagonal screen (which is still the same resolution) and being able to say im on one of ATT's 10 LTE markets.

Every day real world always trumphs theoretical. Besides, I use apps like Pulse to pull news for me in the background. The only time im actually "in the browser" buzzing around is when im searching for something. But I'll always be getting the better battery life benefit, and when I want to play a game, the stronger CPU and GPU will always benefit me as well, over the lesser S3 and adreno 220.

But to each their own.

Dude it's 10 bucks!!! Who the hell sells an lte device for 10 bucks

4. nyamo posted on 15 Jun 2012, 14:08 1

thanks to xda, i've been running ICS since mid march. also i'm not sure why, but i would not hold my breath for the ATT update to be any good. I know that the 2.3.6 update they pushed out caused all sorts of problems

5. snowgator posted on 15 Jun 2012, 14:16 4

The "dated" tech of the GS2 would still bury most of what's out there in Android performance. ICS will work great. No LTE is really the only huge drawback to a 2 year agreement on it. Surely most markets will have it by June 2014, and that is something that will detract from grabbing it now.

6. jcpwn2004 posted on 15 Jun 2012, 16:12 2

Exactly, I'm not planning on upgrading to the S3. I would think it would be the same as going from the ip4 to the ip4s. I prefer the design of my s2 anyways. I just hope they hurry up with ICS already...

If I were a new customer though I'd spend the extra 100$ for the s3.

You are correct on the specs. This phone is great compared to a lot of the others out there given it is as close to the international versions as any others. Not mentioned was launched 9 Months ago in the US.

Couldn't agree more.. Watch the pocketnow SGS II vs SGS III comparison.. No difference in opening apps speed, browsing speed, gaming performance, SGS III is a little bit smoother and more fluid and the new Touchwiz is cleaner.. Overall, SGS II is still one of the fastest & most powerful smartphone out there.

8. remixfa posted on 15 Jun 2012, 16:20 2

Wait??? whats dated on the set other than the resolution?

For 10 bux you are getting what is still one of the world's most powerful phones, with EXYNOS which is better than every S3 set on the market. It also has one of the world's largest development communities and is over all the greatest phone of 2011.

I say buy it. If I were on ATT I'd probably buy it myself even with the SGS3 days away. For 10 bux you are still getting something in the "upper range" of phones.. the very upper range. In everything but screen resolution.. but who cares. the screen still looks darn pretty.
With the proper tweaks you could make it nearly as powerful as the SGS3 quad core.

Of course tweaking the SGS3 quadcore will probably take you to somewhere far far away, but that is besides the point.

I think these battles for HD 1080P screens is ridiculous. I would much rather they focus on battery life, camera, and overall smoothness of your experience.

If you can see pixels on the sgs2 screen you're holding it way to close to your face.

12. remixfa posted on 15 Jun 2012, 16:42 1

exactly.
I can tweak my SGS1 to get 2 days battery life. Even PA reported they could do the same with the exynos SGS2 right out of the box.. So I bet it could be tweaked for much longer. If it came between a battery hog but amazingly beautiful screen.. and a battery sipping but only "beautiful" screen.. I'll take choice #2.

Must be selling really badly. I guess Samsung is getting desperate.

19. fanboy1974 posted on 16 Jun 2012, 16:41

You do realize that the phone is over a year old. Would you buy a iPhone 4S for $200 a week before the iPhone 5 comes out?

16. remixfa posted on 16 Jun 2012, 04:56

Well I just helped ATT rack up 2 more sales through some friends of mine. lol. 10 bux for the monster is just too good to pass up. Too bad I wont be getting one of them.
