Here's the deal...the two hottest OS's is iOS and Android, period. I don't know why companies are shocked that Blackberry isn't doing that great. For the longest time consumers (not nerds) thought of Blackberry as business phones. Even when the multiple Curves and Pearls came out that were made for consumers, Blackberry couldn't live down the business phone reputation. On top of that, they didn't make any significant changes to the OS in years. Even this new OS looks a lot like the BB we've known for too long. Even look at the hardware...every other phone out there can do what the Torch does...but better. RIM should have come out swinging on this one. High screen resolution, HD recording...it should have been epic. But all we got is a kind of nice Blackberry. It functions, but it isn't impressive at all. Plus, the reason why Android and iOS do so well...marketing. Apple is a genius when it comes to advertising to the point where other companies mimic the simplicity. And because Verizon wanted to compete with the iPhone's success, they put out a smart and extremely effective marketing blitz to push the Android OS. What did Blackberry do? Rely on AT&T to push a phone for them. If RIM wants to really get to consumers, they need to have advertising that focuses solely on letting people know the phone even exists. Plus, let's be honest. People come into AT&T still wanting iPhones. Sure, AT&T has a huge assortment of different OS's for their smartphones...that's one great thing about AT&T...but the vast majority of people that look at AT&T are looking at the iPhone, whether AT&T likes it or not... The problem is, there isn't anything really special about Blackberries anymore other than push email and BBM. Other than that, they are trumped in almost every category when it comes to consumer needs. But AT&T and RIM have to know that just because you release a phone that is a first of its kind, it doesn't mean it's going to sell. And it's something that Microsoft learns before they release Windows Phone 7.

blackberry will never be a consumer product because it doesn't have what consumers want... touch screens with millions of dumbass apps. blackberry does the important things better than iphone and android, and thats make and receive phone calls/messages. Push email on bb is unmatched by anything else, bbm is king. that's why blackberry will always be there.

bbm is for losers that want to make sure the other person read their text. It's called TEXT MESSAGING idiot. And apps makes things a lot more convenient. You talk a lot of shit about apps cause blackberry barely has any. Its like a poor guy saying "money isnt everything". Well thats cause you never it and that makes you the poor guy. And my android does texting emailing phone calling a lot better, faster, and with more options at hand than a blackberry. The only reason blackberry exists is because there are losers like you out there that want to be a part of the BBM Social Circle. No one should be obligated to respond to you any way and BBM gives people the feeling of dissonance cause the other person could see if their text was read or not. Word of advice, stop caring if other people read your text or not, its not important. And no one cares about your stupid BBM nickname.

BBM was cool back in the day, but its just glorified AIM. And you dont have to have blackberry to blackberry to send an AIM message. Besides, BBM cant do the things that saayy.. Handcent cant do on Android. It was great back in 2000, but its time to update that stuff. RIM needs to come out swinging with something that other phones dont have.. how about the first 8mpx+ 1080p 30fps camera on a smart phone (with flash!! lol) with live streaming ability. Maybe reinvent yourself the way windows is doing. But ya got to do something to stay in the game. RIM is playing the same game it always has.. which used to make it the king of the crop. The game has changed and everyone noticed but RIM.

Before I started using GTalk I would've completely agreed with you... I don't think it's so much that people want to know if their text was read or not (although that is the case for many people) but more that the messages are sent and received virtually instantly. Because of that it gives it much more of a "conversation" feel than just messages being sent back and forth (like email). I know I would absolutely never go back to texting my girlfriend simply because when she sends multiple messages in a row they all come through instantly, instead of me typing a response to the first then receiving the second third etc... Also, because BBM uses the data network i've noticed that i'm able to send messages quicker in bad service areas (like my basement). I never understood why people were so crazy for BBM until I started using GTalk, and i've already converted every person I know who uses a Blackberry or Droid to it so that I don't have text.

I agree with you completely. Android and iPhone are for fun, media and social network. The first thing the ads mention is "social network this" and social network that". Sure, that's great if you want to spend all that money just to know someone poked you or Paris Hilton tweeted she bought new shoes. The second thing the ads mention is how great video viewing in on the huge screen. Will they be mentioning Outlook calendar and contact sync or speedy emails or document creation?? BlackBerry users don't need all that crap. We use our devices for work. And what's wrong with appealing to the business professional?

hey JT, Android syncs with outlook calander AND gmail calander instantly, contacts AUTOMATICALLY sync over the air as you make changes instead of wiring it to the computer like a BB, emails can be sent and recieved instantly (its called refresh! and btw, do you really NEED your emails every 5 seconds or can it wait the 5-15 minute interval? lol), and most androids come with Office/free office, PDF, and all the other stuff. Oh yea and free audible TbT navigation,Flash, more apps, games, business tools, sync options, form factors, customizations, ect , ect ,ect. I used to love blackberry, but they have fallen behind... bigtime.

Rimms biggest problem is the failed designed of the Palm was adopted and pushed. I don't know why they decided to push the same failed design that palm had. What a bunch of morons. A slower procescessor, and a busted design. No surprise thatt they are not selling. ROFL
7. JeffdaBeat posted on 08 Sep 2010, 18:57 0 0
You know, I didn't like the design until I held the phone in my hand. It actually feels really good. It has a great weight to it and the keys are pretty spacious. The problem is more of the processor, the unimpressive OS, and the still business look to the phone. The design feels classy, but it's not edgy or creative.

That may be...... but remember; while surfing the web its better to surf in land scape mode and type, rather than portrait mode because you get more of the page to read in landscpe mode.
16. remixfa posted on 09 Sep 2010, 09:33 0 0
yea, if your on an old browser that uses wordwrap. Get a big screen phone like a galaxyS or evo and tell me how much more ANNOYING portrait is when your browsing and pulling up full pages. You have to move all over the page to find stuff or read.. landscape mode its just up n down.

Other than the browser being "better" and Os being a bit smoother..why else should it sell more??

The torch is actually a nice blackberry but the biggest mistake RIM made was make it exclusive to ATT, not the smartest move.
