I now think that the Nokia Lumia 900 sales are going to drop. Here you have a phone that has everything the Lumia 900 has, with a better screen and most likely and better camera. Cause the camera in the lumia 900 is CRAPPY! And your getting all this for almost half the price.

You´re wrong, the Lumia 900 has a better screen (ClearBlack), better design and more support from Nokia.

Why do people always think $0-$50 ON contract is affordable. Really the price of the handset is irrelevant if you are willing to pay for a $50+ contract. I mean really why would you go for a $50 mid spec handset when for another $50 you could say the lumia 900 or for an extra $150 you can get an htc X or another top of the range android. When your 2 year contract price is well over $1500 another $100 isn't going to make much of an impact.

That's an excellent point that should be open for discussion. Actually, the main reason I use the word affordable is that one way or another you end up tied with a contract. So from that point of view, the down payment you actually make by purchasing the phone is the only variable factor that can make a phone affordable.
So in a nutshell, it's because that's the way the system works in the US right now. In other countries where you don't have the 2-year contract model, the off-contract price might be more relevant. Still, it's absolutely true that $50 here and $100 there initially don't make much of a difference pver the contract term at all.

If this phone was ever to be called affordable on contract then att ought to pay the consumer or at the very least be free. Still I suppose that is an issue I have with cell contracts.
There are many monthly prepaid plans that are getting more and more popular. These are far, far more affordable and if people really opened their eyes in the US are far better value as well. You can pick up a phone like this for $300 new and add a $30-$50 plan that gives you pretty much what ATT would offer you for $60 to well over $100 a month. Over two years the prepaid offering easily beats the contract.
Than again the Focus I is still $200 on contract ... i guess this is affordable Then again you could get a palm pixi for free... FREE!! WOW... no wait I still have to shell out $1500 over 2 years....

its all about perception. if you ask the average american would you rather have 49.99 come out of your account today or 399.99. even if you tell them they can pay 50 a month for unlimited talk and text with 2gigs of highspeed data if they pay the 399.99 today or they can get it for 49.99 and pay 89.99 plus tax for the same plan. they woud pick the 49.99 ive seen it to many time on tmobile. its the same with xbox live people will pay 9.99 a month rather than 60 for the year. some people dont have that much disposable income up front others just like perception my friend.

well! actually it is cheap.
Im from mexico and here the economy supposedly is one of the worst of the world, well here you have to pay 350dls if you want to get the LUMIA 800 which is about 6+ months old and no ff camera and bit smaller, but you got yourself an agreement of at least 35-60dls per month for 18 months/ not even think about an android like galaxy nexus, here it cost 650dls plus contract.. its ridiculously pricey
companies has to charge for their service is not free, is like tablets or computers, hell like hd tvs, you get the device but still have to pay for the service (hd channels on cable, internet on tablets or laptops etc even the phone service, if you got phone service you dont get a free phone at least not a bad-ass one).. thats how it is and it will be because is how they make money..
but is funny how you guys complain about this prices when in other countries we will kill for them (hypothetically)

Looks like I'm gonna be stuck with my HD7 for awhile. Frankly I don't know how MS/wp is supposed to move forward being stuck on ATT. They're acting like they're Apple or something. And I thought tmo had a good relationship with MS/Nokia. Ho hum! UTTERLY frustrating indeed!

This is exactly what I have been waiting for, the original focus in white with LTE and a front facing camera. Woot!!!!! Thanks ATT for making it so affordable!!! This is going to go well with my unlimited data plan!!! All smiles over here!
